I use this ALL the time in my work. 7th and 9th chords are my bread and butter when it comes to making a beautiful or chaotic piece. _Especially_ when dealing with rhythm game songs. More people need to know how powerful stuff like this is in music.

A minor second interval can sound really sweet in the context of extended harmony too (C/B for example), specially if played on higher registers

most importantly the dissonant intervals have to be resolved at some point, otherwise you're left with a melody that just sounds bad
