I am a retired IT Project Manager. I know the testing phases in all these new releases and updates are integrated with many other systems and the data actions are getting even more complex. The time allotted for testing started to shrink about 20 years ago “to save time and money” these decisions are made by strictly business and group think. If someone points out the possibility of catastrophic failure, they are looked at as anti-innovation or negativity. This is only the highlight of how the systems are denigrating.
Yall talking about airline profits like that’s actually important. Imagine how many hospitals were affected and how many patients had negative outcomes because their charts couldn’t be accessed! I wanna know what Crowdstrike is gonna do for any families that had a family member negatively impacted at a hospital because of this!

One way to help avoid this sort of failure is to use more than one operating system. Use Linux and Mac machines, along with Windows. This would at least let you do basic tasks, even if something crashed.
Excellent question by Becky and Steve: Is there a better way to do this? Same as to the issue of redundancy. As a follow-up, what back-up systems are, or could be deigned, to avoid these issues altogether. The view from 40,000 feet.
Hi, isn't it possible to reset a computer to a previous save point - before the Update was made and use a previous 'restore point' to fix the problem in an individual's or even a company's computer - until the Security company can Fix it by re-writing their glitchy programming error? 🤔🤨🙃
Yes a manual fix is known. But i think it'd take a while for airlines with limited IT support to apply the fix on each of their thousands of computers.
If we talk about the loss of productivity due to this incident, we have to remind ourselves how much productivity gain we have enjoyed from Microsoft and other technologies till today, which maybe was a million times bigger than the loss we suffered today.

Crowdstrike in January bragged to investors about cutting its workforce. I hope all the investors that are down 20% today learned their lesson.
It could be related to trying to maintain a service after drastically reducing the engineering teams.

Love how they feel no need to beta test an upgrade like this. They need to be held financially accountable for this behavior.
Do you have evidence that they didn't?

Just had that conversation with my wife.. never should have happen.
Simple solution: don't force automatic updates!
