My go to rec for grieving a parent who died when you were younger is dancing at the pity party by Tyler Feder. It made me feel so seen in a time where I felt incredibly lonely. Also bonus points for it being a graphic memoir!

The way you've described all the books is amazing :)

I am not currently in immediate need of a book about grief, but your video came up on my UA-cam feed, and I did not regret clicking on it at all. your perspective is very valuable, and your voice is so soothing.

I love the book called "The Possession of Mr. Cave" by Matt Haig. I haven't finished reading it yet but I've read couple chapters of it and it also talks about grieve and how some relationships change after losing a family member close to you (in the book it was about a father losing his son that has a twin sister. Throughout the book we can see how this changes the relationship between him and his daughter.) I really love this book and would've loved reading it couple years earlier when i lost my dad. Anyways really enjoyed watching this video!

Thank you - I think a lot about that tbh. Grief has made me see my life in 'two parts' because of how it significantly impacts everything, including relationships. It's quite jarring & disorienting really. Glad you enjoyed the vid :)

I recommend Notes on grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

oo - I’ve read some Adiche, didn’t realise she’d done anything on grief

For a poetry recommendation I recommend What the Living Do by Marie Howe. It was written more or less for her brother who died from the AIDS virus. It’s beautiful and deeply moving while also containing her and her brothers sense of humor.

The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer and The Astonishing Color of After by Emily XR Pan are a couple of novels featuring grief that have really stuck with me, although I am still working myself up to reading Writers and Lovers.
I don't know that I've found a good nonfiction that I've connected with the same, although Can't Help Myself by Meredith Goldstein is a really interesting memoir by an advice columnist whose mother dies after cancer, and The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer includes the loss as part of life. I've also read The Dead Moms Club by Kate Spencer which had a lot of direct parallels to my own experience so I understood it, but I didn't care for the author.

All have gone straight on the tbr, thanks.
Yes it is interesting how non-fiction is often harder to connect with than fiction. I honestly think writing about your experience must be the most challenging thing and that must be a part of it (I think so at least).
And yeh after a quick look, the content of the Dead Moms Club looks like it may be for me but not the voice (it's on the TBR nonetheless and I'll see if I get to it! haha)

I really enjoyed your video and immediately got "Crying in H Mart". My mum passed away 2 years ago and I am still a lot of in the process of grief. If you want another very amazing series: The Afterlife. Not a book. But amazing.

Crying in H Mart is heavy but its so beautiful.. I consider it compulsory reading but it's impossible to say when the 'right time' is to read it - good luck with it anyway ! I've never heard of the afterlife but it looks excellent, thank you.
