We have 2 and we find tons of hair everyday especially if they're wrestling. Other than that I would never own a normal cat again we are in love with exotic short hair. Getting our 3rd soon 😻 great personality cats

I have an exotic shorthair and she is so loving, playful and friendly. Perhaps it’s because of the Australian climate but she does shed a lot. The pros definitely outweigh the cons for this breed though. 💛

I dont have an exotic shorthair but I do have a Persian and for anyone considering this breed, definitely make sure you're ready for the commitment. Like she said, you have to clean their eyes at least once a day and my cat hates it even though we cleaned them since she was a baby and she's now 8. On top of that, since she's long haired and she hates being touched so we have to take her into the groomers 4-5 times a year and that costs us about $150 each session. Also, Persian cats are suppose to be nicer than other breeds, but that's not always the case. She is probably the moodiest cat I've ever seen and we can barely touch her without her trying to attack us. Like I said, we've had her since she was a kitten so she's never been abused, that's just her personality. Also, due to the fact that she's a pure breed, they tend to have more health issues and she has crystals in her urine so she's on a prescription cat food. Despite everything we love our cat but just wanted to warm people what they might getting themselves into.

Mine needs his eyes cleaned twice a day because they water all the time and gunk builds up. I have to brush his teeth everyday because his breath is horrible. He tolerates all of this pretty well. You have to start when they are young to get them used to it. Plus you have to trim those claws about once a month. And mine is a little biter. He’s an angel one minute and a little demon the next. He runs around the house like a Tasmanian devil so I have to play with him every day to burn off the energy. He is very inquisitive so plan on cat proofing your house because mine gets into everything usually before bed. He’s still a kitten so I’m sure he will grow out of some of this. But overall he is a sweet little companion and we’re in it together.❤️
My seal point Exotic is the "love" of my life...Finn is now 12-years-old, & the sweetest, most loving, affectionate & friendly to EVERYone cat imaginable...He also is quite the comedian & cracks us up everyday with his adorable little quirks...BTW, he sheds profusely & doesn't like the heat so I keep him in a "lion" cut during summer...When he's too warm, he can be found napping in the bathroom sink...grins. *: )*
Beware - they have a shorter life expectancy because of issues with polycystic kidney disease, kidney problems later in life and heart problems. I've had 4 exotics - 2 pairs and only one lasted more than 10 years. They are absolutely wonderful cats and even with some health issues I will continue to enjoy them. Be sure to find a top breeder with a documented health history and hope your little friend will be around for as long as possible.
Anyone who says they are non shedding hasn’t had their cat for very long. Lol. They do have full thick hair. Mine loves to be brushed but I do get 4 brushfuls of hair every day. Much less than a truly long haired cat. They are an awesome breed.
He has a good tongue to keep his nose clean. I wanted an exotic but pricey and hard to get. I have American short-hairs, absolutely adorable and loving so I am still happy with my "babies".
Last summer i was driving home and i pulled up to a stop light behind 3 cars . As i was waiting for the light to turn green i looked to my right and about 15 feet away in some tall grass i saw a black object sticking out between the grass . I thought it was a black shirt or a black purse. But i wasent reall sure . So i ewent home . It was in august and it was in ther 90s ,ptretty hot for washington state . So for the next 3 or 4 days i would drive by and see the samre black rag or purse in the same spot ,nothing unususal to me . Then on about the fifth day i was driving by the same spot and i just looked over at that black spot and i saw it move as i drove by . Ihit my breaks and fliped a uturn and pulled over . I got out of my car and walked over to the black spot and it got up and ran about 15 feet and stoped and turned around and looked at me and i was able to go over and picked it up . It was a black and white american shorthair exotic pursian male kitty. He had to be out in the hot sun for at least 5 days that i know of . He looked to ber about 5 to 7 months old and ewas only about 4 pounds . He was flea infested so bad that when i gave him a bath the water turned a brownish red . He was flea infested so bad . Inever seen an animal in that bad shape because of fleas. After i bathed him and he was dry the fleas were still so bad he would try to run from them . So i got some flea drops and put them between his shoulder blades and within 5 minits they started to drop off him like ive never seen before . He was so hungary and thirsty .FAor the next two weeks he ate constantly and drank literally gallons of water . eventually i took him to the vet and got wormimg pills and what blew me away ,he didnt have one worm that i could find . Now hes about 11 months old and i named him Max . Hes all i have an hes everything a cat lover would want . Just like this lady says , hes very playfull and he follows me around like a puppy would do . Max weighs 10 pounds and is such a lover . I couldent be more happy that he came into my life . I had many cats in my 63 years bit Max takes the cake ,hands down . If anybody out their wants a cat that give you a lot of attention then the exotic shorthair is the one you want . Just be prepaired to spend lots of time with him or her . Max is an absolute blast to be around . Hes my best friend and i dont know what id do without him . Thankyou for the great information . What a special find!! I believe everything happens for a reason - Max was supposed to be in your life! Last year I was coming home from a long roadtrip and spotted eyes in a ditch. I had a bad feeling, turned around, and discovered a dying dog with a broken leg, and an empty bag of dog food. Someone had intentionally left him there! I took him to the emergency vet, where they did a free operation, and the surgeon later adopted him. I always look in the ditches now. You never know when you might save a little one's life!! Have you noticed that he gets ear infections? Mine has a chronic ear infection in the same ear. Can't seem to get it to go away. We're currently using antibiotics, but for the long-term this isn't going to work.
I’ve been trying really hard to find ones for adoption but can’t find any at all. I even tried to see if there were any for sale by reputable breeders or a kitten from a family. No matter where I look, I just can’t find a single exotic shorthair. Please let me know if you know a good place to get an exotic shorthair! 🙏😭
You should go to cat shows held by CFA or TICA. There you see lots of breeds and breeders. Talk to them and ask about how they breed ie cross breeding, and ask to visit their cattery. And get the contract when you adopt one.

They shed - a lot! They’ll also mat, so once a week brushing is not nearly adequate.
