So in many other sports/competitive games, you can agree to a prize split, but you can't actually get to a shared win without discussing that possibility with the other player or team, and that's considering fixing. It's protectionism/manipulation because it keeps your elo safe, and directly effects the elo/rank of everyone else you played that day. Extend the logic to all the games, every player who showed up day 2 could have just agreed to draw to protect their rating, all placed "first", and there would have been no competition. Good vibes aside. This is a specific carve out for the two leading players, who by definition colluded for a specific result outside of an actual game.

What an utter disgrace from Carlsen, Nepo and FIDE (breaking their own rules in a central matter), after some fantastic chess. In football cups players often endure MUCH more in overtime, than Carlsen and Nepo, and still no one would ever try to become something as silly as "shared winner" just to evade fighting for a decision: a complete and utter NO GO! Now we have two pathetic losers instead of one winner, and this disgrace will be a severe stain on both Carlsen's and Nepos reputation for the the rest of the year. And FIDE is just a laughing stock. I was with Magnus in the silly Jeans affair, but here he just completely lost my respect! And I really laugh at all the silly excuse efforts in this thread!

Yes
No they both lossed
Lol just do an armageddon game, give magnus white, give ian black, if magnus doesn't mate him Ian is champ. I agree the jeans thing was dumb but lol.... don't bend on this. Then again if the NYPD is saying get the heck out we have this building in 30 maybe they had no choice in the end?
FIDE not able to provide a functional stream once again... even in the blitz finale the board is lagging behind or wont show up. Happens all the time when they stream. How hard can it be? Really dissapointet by fide. Always these terrible technical failures. I'd be embarassed if i was them
FIDE getting trolled so hard is the story of 2024 😂😂😂
Maybe next year the top 8 could all share the title! Or maybe the top 100! Would save us having to watch all this boring chess. I definitely wasn't enjoying the tension of the sudden death 😢
I think that is fair enough for both of them !
CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS
Why are people so upset about this, seems reasonable.
Regulations for the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships 2024
4. 3. 2. 4. Tie-breaks
4. 3. 2. 4. 1. After a drawing of colours, one game with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move, starting from move 1 shall be played to determine the winner.
4. 3. 2. 4. 2. If the game described in Article 4.3.2.4.1. is drawn, another game shall be played with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move, starting from move 1 with the colours reversed from the previous game.
4. 3. 2. 4. 3. If the game described in Article 4.3.2.4.2. is drawn, the procedure described in Article 4.3.2.4.2. shall be repeated until the first game won by one of the players.
Regulations speak for themselves.
fide fell off so hard..
doing both tournaments on the same time is A HORRIBLE IDEA as well.
They would've continued to play drawish lines for every single continuing game if FIDE refused but the fact that Armageddon WASNT a part of the rules is completely baffling and also the reason for why this happened
@@Exerium0 They just played 3 tie breaks & the winner would have decided in the next few games so Armageddon was not really necessary. The fact is Magnus was too afraid if he could have lost.
@@Exerium0 Both the players and FIDE should have supported an Armageddon tiebreak - which in former times at least Magnus was always happy to accept, just to get a decision. FIDE has made a complete laughing stock of themselves by not having any tie break rule in place, and the players added to the disgrace by agreeing to a "shared win", effecteviely making two losers of themselves instead of one winner.
