Awesome video!!! I do mot of my stuff in excel, and am trying to build better database skills. Just curious, which platform are you making the database in?
Great explanation of a junction table. Airtable aside, though, I'm curious about the odd ghosting effect that's in all of them. Whenever your hands come into frame, this ghosting appears at the top of the frame, like the whole video has been overlaid on top of itself and mirrored vertically. Do you know why that's happening?
Hey Justin, thanks for watching. I think we finally tackled the ghosting effect. Seems to have been a problem with my old camera - it has been replaced now and future videos aren't showing any signs. That, or my house is haunted by wandering hands that mirror mine...
Is there a workaround for doing UNIONS in Airtable? I want to create a combine view of multiple linked tables from different bases in my workspace. All fields are same in the linked tables.
@@GarethPronovost Thanks for the reply. Actually, AirTable has since added a feature that will allow you to feed multiple source tables into a single synced table. This addresses my need perfectly.
Totally - the error is caused by Airtable looking at the linked records and trying to multiple something to it. The linked record is not merely a number though - it's an entire record containing much more than just a currency amount. This causes the formula to break (as I accidentally showcased in the video, lol). The way to get around this is to first create a field that looks at the linked record field and outputs a number. The easiest way to do this is to build a field (let's call it "LINK"). This field is a formula type that is simply looking at the "Rates Link" - the output should be the value of the rates link linked record. Then, your calculation could look at the "LINK" field and multiply it by the hours worked. Hopes this makes sense!
@@nicmamom - there are so many options, I'm not sure where to start. Some formulas might be: {Field 1} * {Field 2} {Field 1} - {Field 2} SWITCH ( {Field 1} , 'Yes' , 1 , 'No' , 2) 5 + 7 ... it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish!
I haven't used Monday.com much, so I can't speak to it in detail. However, I use and consult in Airtable because it solves this problem beautifully. So while I can't say whether Monday can solve your specific needs, I can speak to Airtable and say that it's worth looking into! 💪

Brilliant explanation, thank you!

Airtable is the software I build all my databases in 👍

not sure I understand the question - sorry!

@@pauposts perfect!
Airtable sure does make it super difficult to create and link cells and tables
Could you please tell me what the exact formula to get rid of the Error message? Why doesn't just using Rates Link work? Thanks!

@@GarethPronovost Thank you! I figured out the work around!
@@GarethPronovost I struggle with formulas. Could you give me an example or how to output a numeric value? What might the formula look like?
@@nicmamom - there are so many options, I'm not sure where to start. Some formulas might be:
{Field 1} * {Field 2}
{Field 1} - {Field 2}
SWITCH ( {Field 1} , 'Yes' , 1 , 'No' , 2)
5 + 7

Is it all about classic N:M relation using an extra table?
I typically build 1:n relationships from the junction table, so Junction:Table 1 = 1:n and Junction:Table 2 - 1:n
maonday.com or airtable? for business database and profit calculation (with many many variables, product items, customers and so on)?

@@GarethPronovost thanks, looking forward to implementing it. from what i saw, airtable is a better fit as a database
What's your hourly rate? Don't need to waste anyone's time on a call if I can't afford it. Thanks.

Thanks I’ll let you know.
you should have just done this with diagrams
