Dolphin - All Scenes Powers & Abilities
Dolphin (Atlantean Delphis) is an Indian teenager turned into a water breather by Klarion's Project Rutabaga.
Before her Meta-Gene activation, Dolphin was an olive-skinned teenager with black hair and brown eyes. Her hair was slightly curly and reached to her waist.
Post-transformation, her eyes turned pale blue, while her hair turned white. She gained bright blue markings all over her body. She also gained visible gills and webbed hands.

I know Dolphin’s meta gene is basically just being able to survive underwater but her design is just so cool easily one of the best designs for minor characters I like that they made her different from the Atlantians by giving her those cool blue scales, it is sad she can never go above surface though but she seems happy 😊
Edit/Update: as of season 4 she can glow!! I love her she’s great I’m glad they kept her in the show
just breathing underwater? theyre deeeep below the ocean’s surface she must also have some form of increased durability to be that deep and be the same size let alone not squashed instantly. she would also need enhanced strength we humans are good swimmers but not atlantian good and shes keeping up with them relatively well. she can also clearly see underwater too tho its hard to tell how well or how much fiction is interfering with logic but still. shed be dead if all she had was water breathing

Why does she go by dolphin when she can't breathe air. Dolphins are mammals like humans they breathe air they don't breathe water they're not fish they just hold their breath for a long time. I know it's a cartoon and everything but come on just call her Fish girl.

Cree Summer is the actress who voiced Kida but she did not voice dolphin. She did voice Tula tho, Xanadu, and Wally’s mother in this show

Wouldn't surprise me... Comic book hero design of late hasn't been the most "inventive", but it certainly has been "inspired" (if you get my meaning).

As a Greek is very interesting for me that the Atlantian language is basically a version of Ancient Greek. I can understand some parts if a listen carefully. It's so cool and weird at the same time. I love it.
Fairly certain they make Atlantean in the show by just corrupting modern Greek.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re given actual translations and the voice actors pronunciation is what is doing the corrupting.
I like it too, I studied some Greek (and Latin and biochem) in college, I'm still learning, but yeah, I recognized some words like θαλασσα (sea) around @4:33 in the video...
Going to look up the transcript and see what else they have written there out of curiosity, it was a bit hard for me to hear at first but I see what you mean (I wanted to check the translation spell that Kaldur said as well in the video)
Makes sense when you think about it. Atlantis is part of greek mythology after all, and was probably ruled by Poseidon himself at one point during ancient Greek time

I can only imagine what Dolphin has been through. The way she spoke of bad men, how perceptive she was to notice Kalduram lied to his mentor and king, and how she assured Kaldur that he is most assuredly NOT a bad man but a good man (becuz she's right that bad men don't feel bad when they lie), how she didn't want to reveal her name from the surface world...
She has been through a great deal even before Klarion got a hold of her, but it is uplifting to see her take so happily to her new life and new name in Atlantis
Yeah I was very curious why she didn't want to see or know what's going on with her family or friends, but when she revealed her past a little it made sense

Sure, maybe in some spots but, not the country and people as a whole. So it may not just be an "Indian" thing that happened to her, who knows.
After all Kaldur went through with losing Tula and learning of his parentage, he's continued to push forward as a leader, got himself a boyfriend, and added to his family. I'm happy for him.

@@chukwunonsobelonwu3359 Young Justice has had some flaws over the years, but I legitimately think that some of its character work has been absolutely phenomenal. The fact they they are a single consistent universe allowed to continuously move forwards and use whatever storylines they want allows us to get a Billy Batson who by this point is a full grown adult, a Nightwing who gets to be in a functional and settled relationship, and the guts to actually kill characters and stick with it. I honestly would love it as well if we saw some of their condensing of the universe brought into DC proper. I think they may have wanted to do that with 5G, but then everything kind of fell apart and into a whole slew of different things. Which I’m mixed about. It could’ve been awesome, but such radical change all at once would have pissed way too many people off.

He doesn't even exist in the comics, there is a new Aquaman loosely based off him (Jackson Hyde) but in the end he's very different

Some DC Comics-based context, history, and clarification to Dolphin... *:)*
1.) *_Who is Dolphin?_** --* Debuting in DC Comics in *1968...*
- a.) *Abduction -* As a small child, Dolphin was alien-abducted off a vacation cruise-liner by aquatic alien scientists (hiding in Earth's oceans) for "guinea pig" use in experimentation. The aquatic alien scientists' torturous experiments activated Dolphin's Metagene. After the aquatic alien scientists lost interest in their various experiment project(s), they left Dolphin (the sole survivor of the experimentations) to die in her cage. Dolphin managed to free herself and escape into the ocean wilds.
- b. *Education -* Living ferally in the oceans for several years, Dolphin happened across a small community of human aquatic scientists (oceanographers, marine biologists, hydro-physicists, etc.), who took Dolphin in; both out of scientific curiosity, as well as earnest _Compassion._ Cared for, and eventually educated enough to communicate with other humans in-general (comics-Dolphin knows English and American Sign Language), Dolphin bid her adoptive family farewell to travel the oceans and the world, this time with an sense of intelligent awareness and explorative wonder. *[EDIT RE: Dolphin's name...* It was the human scientists who gave Dolphin her name, since Dolphin did not (could not) remember her birth name pre-abduction.]
- c.) *Atlantean -* Across her travels, Dolphin would encounter Arthur Curry (Aquaman I), and her life with Atlantis, the Aqua-family, and the (overall) Metahuman Community would begin. Dolphin would become a citizen of Atlantis, fall in love with Garth (Aqualad I, Tempest), marry Garth, and bear Garth's son (Ceridian).
- d.) *Death (2005) -* Tragically, both Dolphin and Ceridian would be among the thousands slain in the destruction of Atlantis by a corrupted and rampaging Spectre (a titanically powerful mystic being; DC Comics' 'Spirit of Vengeance', generally an Anti-Hero).
2.) *_Metahuman Nature/Powers..._*
- a.) *Similar -* Rather obviously, Dolphin is capable of surviving underwater indefinitely, sharing many Atlantean traits: water breathing, depth pressure immunity, enhanced strength & toughness, swift swim speed, etc.
- b.) *Different -* _UNLIKE_ standard Atlanteans (remember: Dolphin is a Metahuman), comics-Dolphin is physically stronger, tougher, and swifter (Dolphin is capable of outpacing most Atlanteans' swim-speeds).
- c.) *Comics vs. Cartoon -* Additionally, unlike her YJ-depiction, comics-Dolphin is *_Amphibious,_* capable of surviving indefinitely on both dry land and underwater without any ill effects (like the rest of the Aqua-family); though as (obvious) personal preference, Dolphin prefers aquatic environments. Whether YJ-Dolphin will evolve to match comics-Dolphin's amphibious nature will be interesting to see, if they use Dolphin in YJ season 04+ (I certainly hope they will).
3.) *_Dolphin's Depiction in Young Justice (cartoon)..._*
- a.) *Voice Actor -* Dolphin is voiced by *Tiya Sircar,* best known for her role as Mandalorian _Sabrine Wren_ from *[Star Wars: Rebels (2014-2019) CG cartoon].* This is why YJ-Dolphin is portrayed as a Hindi/Indian girl, to reflect her Voicer.
- b.) *Comics vs. Cartoon (redux) -* This is opposed to comics-Dolphin, who was a platinum-blonde (white hair) Caucasian woman in low-rise mini-shorts and a _VERY_ tight (cleavage & midriff revealing) tank-top. Though as nods to her comics-counterpart, YJ-Dolphin retained her platinum-blonde (white) hair and tank-top (though a *FAR* more modest/conservative top than comics-Dolphin). *[Side-Note:* this is one of the reasons why the YJ-cartoon enjoys such an enduring following, YJ does not rely on cheap sex-pandering portrayals, but rather interesting &/or engaging characters.]
- c.) *Why No Human Name? -* This is where the YJ-writers were limited. For comics-Dolphin, she never had a human name because comics-Dolphin simply could not remember what her human (birth) name was, due to comics-Dolphin's alien abduction as a very small child (barely past a toddler). So, to reflect that, YJ-Dolphin's lack of revealing her human name is *_deliberately_* glossed over.

1.) *_Complete Mystery, Consistent Mystery_** ~* Comics-wise, Dolphin has been around since *1968,* and despite Reboots/RetCons across the comics-decades, Dolphin's core backstory has remained consistent for the most part. This means that Dolphin's land-walker birth-origins are a complete blank, both to the Readers and to Dolphin herself.
2.) *_Thought of Before_** ~* Likewise, there have been plenty of (in-comics) attempts to try to trace Dolphin's birth-origins, which is really not surprising given how long comics-Dolphin has been around (1968)...
- a.) *Direct Investigation ~* Backed by the Atlantean Royal Family and the Justice League, Dolphin has tried boots-on-ground investigating (hiring Private Investigators, using government contacts/resources, even investigative Super-Heroes' aid, etc.) to find her birth-origins. But the lack of information, something even Dolphin herself cannot provide (again: no memories), have all failed.
- b.) *Science ~* Attempts to trace Dolphin's DNA (reflecting when such biotechnology became widely available in Reality, of course) have proven fruitless; due to the aquatic aliens' torturous experiments and Dolphin's active Metagene, Dolphin's DNA is too far altered for any DNA trace-matching.
- c.) *Magic ~* Even sorcery/wizardry (Atlantean, land-walker, Super-Heroes) have proven unable to divine Dolphin's birth-origins, other than confirming Dolphin is of human land-walker birth-origins (not an alien, not a clone, not an altered/transformed animal, etc.), and is native to Earth-01/-Prime (DC Earth), not from a different dimension in the DC Multiverse.
3.) *_Possibilities_** ~* This does not mean your theory cannot be used. However...
- a.) Short of wielding an Infinity Gauntlet (or DC cosmic equivalent) level artifact, it is unlikely comics-Dolphin will ever learn/know her land-dweller human birth-origins.
- b.) Alternatively, Young Justice cartoon could take a *_VERY_* bold step and give YJ-Dolphin a purely YJ-based Origin Story, though I doubt YJ-cartoon would use 'Lisa Morel' (Aquagirl I, 1959) since YJ-Dolphin is portrayed by a Hindi/Indian girl (Tiya Sircar).

SHIIEEET. 'Ol man Greg, aka Uncle Ruckus, wasn't _about_ to let that go down. During seasons 1+2, did you notice how Kal'dur was the _only_ guy not getting any action? That is, not until Rocket showed up.
Greg and most of the other Hollywood writers tend to have a "Plantation" like mentality. Of _course_ they'd rather pair him with some guy, than with some _non black_ female. The same goes for Static+ Cyborg.
Be thankful that BL was able to break off a piece, even if it was a short relationship. It's possible that at least one of the writers had a stroke during that scene. 🤣

Not really. Imagine how much more you could explore underwater and how many things you could see. Anything else would just make you faster or stronger or be able to fly which really isn’t all that.

Her design is pretty cool! Her white hair, and blue scales are awesomely cool!
I feel like they spent both too much and not enough time with this character... She could have been a good medium to segue into into Atlantis, which they did use her for, but then they had her give this deeply insightful speech to Kaldur about his doubts which leads us to think she's going to play a role in the rest of the season (or at the very least least in his arc)... And then they just cut her off of the script.
She's right in the middle of "too much character development" and "not enough use of a character".
I feel like they will have her appear in kaldur arc in season 4

From personal experiense sea water is pretty good at closing small wounds. Helped me twice. Second one was a deep chemical burn, small but looked awful all wet and shit, bled too sometimes, doctor did some stuff but to little avail, sea water closed it in a week after i got wet by mistake and noticed progress. Just a very small scar now.
Before that i would not believe skin could grow so fast.

In a sense she did. A big part of empathy is being able to pick up on subtle ques to someone's mood and piecing together the clues as to what lies behind it. Dolphin noticed that Kaldur became unhappy when the King mentioned Professor Ivo, and was able to figure out that the reason was Kaldur had lied to him about something involving that. However, it may be that she was already naturally empathic (meaning she could already do this) before the Muta-gene was activated.

If i remember correctly, Calvin Durham was a manta soldier genetically altered for an undercover mission in Atlantis, but met Kaldurs mother and defected. Not clear on how Manta became Kaldurs father, though

Oh and also, in all that time, no one has run a background check on her, find out her name, wheres shes from etc.

And she's also used as a device to ask a question that the answer can be self-evident.
I think it was implied that her relationship with her parents or other relatives is toxic since she’s been lied to (possibly a lot) and probably didn’t have many human friends before being rescued, but a background check on her would have still been nice since they did one for Halo.

I also wonder will she have any luck at finding herself a boyfriend, and I wonder if she might develop any new powers, in the Fourth Season of (YOUNG JUSTICE) cartoon show series?
In the comics, she is married to Tempest, so in this show she will eventually marry Tempest.

I always wondered how Kaldur’s father turned from human into an atlantean and giving up his old life
His body adapted to living in Atlantis to much for him to ever return to the surface.
