This was not a knock off of how to train your dragon. I mean sure, the plot is simplistic and predictable but Justin and the Knights of Valour offers decent entertainment. I gave it three out of five 3/5.
Its sad honsetly, this movie looks like it had a ton of potential, if done by the right people. Sure its a HTTYD knockoff, but like barely anywhere in this video is the dragon talked about, so remove that, and its not much of a knockoff anymore. With all the points you made, I'm kinda sad that all the interesting turns and events this movie could have taken were just abandoned for some idiotic stock movie.
About halfway or so in (the point about Dale being right) and have to say that this story really had potential and sadly it was never expanded upon. But no fear as I create a short summary for those wanting to read and give a plot to better fix this!! But I’m going to be using three key points Sir RaisorBlade, knight of reviews made. Well more like points I find interesting enough to be fixed up since I honestly see this movie working Point 1: the apparently large number of laws that really shouldn’t be present in a film! I agree with RB on the point that it would have been interesting to have Justin make a jab at his father’s insane number of laws that ended up having his own father killed since that is perfect story writing and from there we can build up a subplot where the two just don’t even talk to each other after Justin leaves as we could instead have focus on the father even more as he tries to see where he went wrong only to figure out that he is being too protective and that these laws he made are only causing more pain than peace. Oh yeah I think the Queen in this idea should be a bit stubborn on the changing the law thing. The number of laws in this film is insane and I do think they should have put a heavy focus on that since it connects with the knights being outlawed as we could also explore an idea where some of the knights who became outlawed actually split up when Dale destroyed the grandfather shortly after the laws were made and we might have them appear during small parts until Justin who realises that the knights were okay and are kind of needed tries to reunite them. Though that is sequel material and we aren’t talking about a sequel today Point 2: Character development isn’t here?! How can a romance story happen without development?!!! This part is brief as the most important thing this film needs is character development! Especially for a romance plot and/or subplot!!! As a guy who loves stories and makes his own I really do believe that character development is one of the most important things for a story to be excellent. Even if the movie plot is bad as long as character development is achieved then it may save the bad plot. Anyway the focus should be on the relationship with Justin, non-Astrid whose name I forgot and the other people of that castle since it would be amazing if they all had something in common. Heck we might as well throw in the classic sparring match with the love interest Point 3: make a better ending that makes sense to plot. And thoughts so far while adding more development for Dale I know I’m rambling on and probably to the point where I’m pretty much reinventing the film, but I really do think these changes may make it better or even more original than who it’s trying to imitate at most. It doesn’t seem that bad when you look at it in the perspective of what it could have been, but while watching the video more I can see that the film had so much potential. Even Dale has so much potential for a villain as it would be more powerful if the finale had Dale and Justin fight with personal beliefs being put to the test as we could have Dale go so far into his goal that he loses the sense of right and wrong, only believing that becoming king himself can make a world free of law as that is what causes the kingdom to go on its bad path in the first place. However Justin could believe that the law could help keep peace and that the knights are meant to help maintain it, not corrupt it. With these points I think it could change the film and make it better. Oh and have non-Gaston become a knight since Wynaut? And as RB said make him do something useful that can move the plot somewhere! Actually focus on character development and plot to make it better Alright this is long, but I can see the amount of ways to fix this film, but most likely will never happen. This was an Edoko essay and I hope this could help anyone in making a story or something special. If anyone actually read this whole thing
Why would a kingdom even outlaw Knights? I would understand mercenaries or adventurers or edgelords but Knights??? The same people whom are devoted to protecting royalty and most of the time even composed of Royalty themselves???? WHAT??? WHY???
