This was invaluable to me. I just got the game and wanted to do it all on my own. Day 2 irl and I felt like a real life ape 10 million years ago, scared to adventure due to not being top of the food chain.
once you learn how to dodge and attack you will be back up on top of that food chain
ye but they changed it, it’s no longer a audio que but a visual one
@@oldmanjenkins6182 wtf fr? Even on Xbox?
Ragnar Lodbrok not sure I’m ps4
@@RGMSam all hail king Ragnar
Short answer: Hold X or A and if you want to dodge move the joystick in the way you want the dodge if you want to attack move towards it, you let go of X or A when you hear a click
Yes but you're holding X or A on the first click then releasing it on the second click
This is frustrating...there is no sound que at all, frost or second...I can Dodge just fine just by holding x moving left and let go..but nothing attacks, and no sound que's ether way
Being sure to have the stick in the right hand of you want to attack. I always forget my ape isn't ambidextrous
Craig Landry ikr stupid ape
What if youre on mouse and keyboard?
Man I was getting handled all morning because I couldn’t figure it out !!! You are the best
Yeah once you get those sound cues down pat then dodging and attacking becomes manageable
Dayone Myers EXACTLY
Thanks for the help just started today and it was hard for me bc snakes we're every where
Had to start a new play through then it clicked mainly due to vibrations in my controller
Im still having trouble i have my sleep all the way up but there are no sound cues bruh
Ok. That's a game changer. I've been to the end of the jungle without knowing properly how to dodge, and your video just saved my gameplay. Thank you so much.
Glad I could help
This is the tutorial the devs should have included in the game for how to dodge and attack! The one in game is useless. All I got from it is just mash certain buttons and maybe if you're lucky, something will happen. This actually makes it clear what the hell I'm supposed to do.
yeah the game really doesn't tell you too much on how to do anything. they literally wants you to be cavemen and figure it out on your own lol
@@GamingWithAbyssI liked the thought of a game that doesn’t hold your hand until I realised this shit-bin of a game is impossible to progress if you don’t fight. Which the game does jack all of explaining
Great job. I wish everyone did videos like you are doing. To the point, Not getting off, hearing yourself talk, helpful, and taking the time to explain in detail and making sure it's understood. Ty much sir.
I appreciate that!
Thank you, i have been getting owned like lambs to the slaughter. I was wondering why I couldn't hardly hear the "chimes" to do actions properly and almost gave up. So appreciated 😁😁😁
You're welcome and good luck
Finally someone just explains it nice and simple.
On PC: Spacebar instead of X.
good to know I was hoping I explained it good enough to help everyone out
Thanks I’ve been trying to find a new settlement but been getting ripped to shreds this helps a lot now I don’t have to look for confirs when a lion thing attacks
you're welcome
Once you figure out how to effectively strike and kill, it’s a game changer. I roam the jungle floor now at all hours with either a sharpened stick and/or the obsidian cutter (you can strike with that too but won’t kill) because I’m not worried about getting killed at all
yeah learning how to dodge and kill will make the game more manageable and fun
Try getting the basalt chopper,it's good for making sharpened sticks like CRAZY fast
Millions of years ago without this vid I would've been some predator's meal hahaha
lmao
I was right outside my base my game was on pause so i could feel more comfortable exploring the jungle floor and literally as soon as i unpaused i was getting attacked by a tiger. Safe to say this video helps so thank you.
you're welcome
I am honestly at my wits end with this damn game! With your instructions I still fail because I just suck, lol. I love the game, but I just suck at it. Thank you for your tips! I’m going back to assassins creed.
If you get the Dodge and attack down pat then the game is easy after that. I had to turn off the music to make sure that I can hear the sound cues in time. Just remember you hold down the button as soon as you hear the first sound then move the left stick in the direction you want to go last release the button when to hear the second sound
Gaming with Abyss thanks! Yes after I turned down the music it become very easy for sure. Now it’s time to evolve lol
Same here I've discovered nearly all the places of interest and made animal kill each other I just cannot get to grips with the absolute stupid button configuration for dodging and killing I've watched numerous videos my 7 yr old nephew has even shown me and I still cant do it, I'm brave as hell been all over the map unlocked loads of neurons just this one damn thing I cannot master.....😫😫😫😫
OMG THANK YOU! I've been killed by that damn eagle forever since I couldn't figure out exactly when to hit the buttons, lifesaver!
you're welcome and good luck
How to heal brojen bones humen kind oddsesy
Omfggg thank you! All the guides I read just mentioned 1 sound cue, which meant I released WAY too early. I literally got to ardipithicus without once dodging correctly.
you're welcome
I have been wanting to figure everything out by myself in that gale but honestly it's so hard ....
There is a lot to learn and I'm still figuring out stuff
Yes I have had to restart the game twice because all my apes die from tiger attacks.. Idk how to kill them and can't avoid them forever
@@Sk8erMorris best tip I can tell you is sound is everything. But as soon as you can learn how to dodge and attack then you don't have to worry about those tigers attacking as much. Also setting up defenses Around Your settlement is very important
Sk8erMorris bruh I killed all my adult male apes by falling from the tops of trees trying to be Tarzan 😂
For me, it’s the sound cues. Even with the music down, it’s still difficult to time it. Finally killed my first snake tho, so thank you for this
nicely done. when you start killing more then you will unlock some abilities to make it a little bit easier and there is one later on that has a chance to insta kill anything
Thank you for this, I’ve been getting ripped to shreds by these tiger things
you're welcome
Holy bro so true thx so much
I paused my game and looked at the vid before I died and stabed the tiger and it ran away
Man I’ve been playing for over a month and reached the savanna. Not only I didn’t know how to kill, I didn’t even know you could alter things lol. I really started getting my arse handed to me in the savanna so I figured out altering like a true ape and now I’m poking holes and eating coconuts 🌴
I’m got so tired of the lions and hyenas totalling me at the savanna thus I decided to finally cheat and come here to learn how to kill! So thanks for the video 👊
I just want to find the ocean now and see what that’s like!
it's impressive that you made it that far because a lot of the times your Camp can get wiped out if you don't know how to fight and defend
@@GamingWithAbyss Yeah I think when I moved bases, I would first take a couple of apes on a scout for the safest oasis where tigers couldn’t get in easy. And then I fortified my camps pretty well with barricades. So mostly avoided predators in my settlements. Apart from my time at Under the Falls oasis where a tiger would just randomly spawn. That was annoying 😣 Even now I’m living underground near the Door to Savanna so no one gets in. Wish I knew about how to kill and alter when I was in the jungle though cos now it’s going to be very hard in the savanna to get practice. Powerful beasts in here!
Quick, informative and to the point. Hope to see you at a million subscribers soon.
I appreciate that!
I have been playing through this game blind without looking up anything, this is the only thing I’ve had issues with, I had no idea what to do since I was usually too panicked to hear a tiny little noise
I almost gave up on this game because I could not figure this out, thanks man !
once you get the fighting down pat you're good to go
Learning through communicating just like they did...Gamers strong together!
Oh my god, that makes alot more sence, I thought you have to do the evolution upgrade in order to attack
My dumb ass was pressing a soon as it pop up I thought I was dodging the whole time and I would get up bloody asf like I just came out a gladiator fight thinking I’m all good
It's the in game tutorials, they don't tell you a damn thing on how to dodge, attack or anything. What little they do say, is in the middle of the action so nobody has time to read any of it. I had no idea what the game wanted me to do or what the actual controls were for this, until this guy explained it the way the in game tutorial should have. Long story short, you're not dumb, the devs just don't know how to show people the basic controls so we at least know what button to push.
@@Seriously_Unserious Eh, less that they “don’t know” and more that (as they say at the very beginning) “we’re not going to help you much.”
Like, it would be ‘helpful’ to have a notes or tips system available for actions that have been learned and experienced... so that’s not present. Similarly, it would be ‘convenient’ to outright pause time to allow for reading the tips when they pop up... so instead they stick around until you dismiss them. Very technically, it (seems to be) meant to provide the experience of trial-and-error, with a cliffs-notes “here’s how to do this” coupled with (in-game) the lack of any ability to have taken notes, so you do what you can with what you’ve got.
Practically, of course, players prefer efficiency over “I don’t know what I’m doing but I refuse to look it up” (generally speaking), but there are those that want to test themselves with literally no explanation (hence the ‘no HUD no tutorial’ mode that’s available).
@@alecLogan Thing is, my main complaint is not that the devs don't hold our hands, I'm fine with that, what bothers me is not being given what the basic controls are, and not being given any discernable cues when something is timing based. If an action is based on getting the timing right, there needs to be some sort of visible or audible cue to know the difference between the "right" time and the "wrong" time. If something requires pressing a specific button, at least tell us what button to push to get the game to do X, Y or Z. Those are basic interface details that we NEED to know as players to be able to actually play the game (ie USE the product we BOUGHT). "No handholding" is no excuse for no instructions about the basic functionality of the game. Having it all flash by in the heat of the action is no good, I can't read it when I'm busy trying to deal with dodging a crocodile or snake or something.
@@Seriously_Unserious I’ve made another comment noting that there may have been updates in time since that enhance the timing cue being even more clear by lighting up the edges of the screen at the same time that the sound cue for “go” procs. (Based on this video and other similar clips I’ve seen, it was ‘clear enough’ in audio with music lowered previously, while for myself it’s clear even with music).
That said, you do have the option of, you know, taking the couple of seconds you have with a tip prompt to read it instead of rushing to defend yourself. Prehistoric life comes at you fast, and barring the very beginning of Survivor mode, you _will_ have reserves to use if the particular hominid you’re playing does happen to die in the meantime. You’re not exactly limited to one lineage attempt to “just” get another look at specific tooltips, and barring variants chosen by choice, the default one provides the tooltips as they first time they become relevant each time.
As I may have also mentioned previously, the tips may or may not have updated to stick around until either dismissed, or enough time has passed. I can’t say anything to whether or not these small changes were previously the way they were or not, but they’re definitely present now.
@@alecLogan I last played Odyssy last fall, and I wasn't seeing any visible colour shift or hearing any audible cue. I had music turned all the way down and sound fx all the way up, still nothing. I don't know if it's there but too similar to other background/ambiance noises that I'm not noticing it, or if the game's bugged or if it's just a tone I can't pick up. Again, I also see no visual cue, so again I don't know if it's just too subtle to be of any use, located on the wrong part of the screen for me to notice it, gets lost in the noise of other graphics or is not firing like it should. All I do know, is I'm getting no data on what buttons to push, or when I'm supposed to push them to get a particular result for certain areas of the game.
Maybe it's a bug, maybe it's intentional, I just don't know, because I don't get any information so I don't know what's supposed to be normal and what's broken.
Since you reference real life, in real life, you won't need to know what button to push to make yourself jump, you just jump, you choose an action and your body just does that action.
This is a GAME, so it requires INPUTS to tell the game what to do. We are PLAYERS and we need to know what those INPUTS are to make the game do what we want it to. That's information that traditionally used to be included in an INSTRUCTION MANUAL to tell us the basics of the UI, commands and gameplay. Armed with a basic knowledge of how the game works, we then play the game and figure out how to use that knowledge.
Odyssey has no instruction manual, no description of the basics of the game that we can READ when we have the LEASURE to READ it. Right when the game's in the middle of a time sensitive sequence is NOT the time to teach us how to do something, it's BEFORE we're stressed in a time crunch. I've seen a few UA-camrs play this game and not ONE of them was able to work out what the tips were saying when they got jumped by their first predator. Universally, they would panic and start mashing buttons in blind reaction because they didn't know what buttons to push ahead of time and didn't have the time or luxury of reading that info in the middle of a crisis.
Thanks man. I just started playing this game again and I was trying to figure out how to counterattack on my own and I just couldn’t get it perfect.
Bro thank you so much i was desperate to kill something but it didn’t explain good at all
you're welcome
Thank you for helping me how to attack and I'm getting better at it
you're welcome
Awesome vid...ex.aiming the ,mechanics of killing. I’ve been getting destroyed so....this was very helpful! Thanks man!
you're welcome
They really need to figure out better cues, that can barely be heard with the music off, how did they think people could notice them with the default music playing
it would be impossible in my opinion to hear it with the music on.
Thank you for this .
You deserve a subscription
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks that really helped W🎉🎉
Glad it helped!
Thank u so much you helped me out so much
Glad I could help
I have been constantly being mauled by tigers and couldn't hear the cues because of the music! TY!
you're welcome
You are an amazing guy. Thanks for your videos!
Thank you I appreciate it
been practicing, only managed to stick a tiger once, can never hear the sound, so the hint on lowering music will help. Good news is I can wander with the whole grew and scare off pretty much anything now, but i cant kill squat lol, more practice today i guess 😎
Thank you man
No problem
Thank you so much
You're welcome
Thank you so much! I was getting destroyed by warthogs and snakes but thanks to you I can kill a saber tooth :D
you're welcome
Ah I just keep pressing the right buttons but keep forgetting about sound ques like they never explain that, pretty sure sound ques wasn't a big part of evolution so it didn't feel natural to just know that you should wait for a sound que I just thought it was being buggy.
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Welcome!
Omg thank you so much for telling me to turn down the music. That's what's been messing me up all along!
yeah it's a shame you have to do that but it helps out a lot
I am not hearing a ding, but I hold the button down my ape rolls and the Predator is missing it’s attacks. Ami doing this right?
Edit: I’m pretty sure I am still getting hit because I am dropping my weapon, or is it because I am dodging?
Dude you're a life saver
No problem 👍
thanks so much really helped
Glad it helped!
Ok I’m going to go try this out thanks
You're welcome and good luck
Thank you for this video! I just made my first ever kill of an African rock python! 😁
you're welcome
Man, I will go out with 3 other male clan members armed with sharp branches, but I always end up losing dopamine super quick and eventually go into hysteria. Another clan member dead, and another one, and another one, etc.
Hey dude nice video but it left me with 1 question. When you say it will take multiple sharp sticks to take down a boar, do you mean multiple attacks with a stick, or as in your stick will break and you need more than 1
My first lineage got rekted cause I didn't know what I was doing but im bouta try again on my new lineage
once you get dodging and attacking down pat you'll be good to go
@@GamingWithAbyss Do you need a certain neuron upgrade to attack?
3000th like! congrats
Become hunter after watch this video, thanks bro.
yeah once you get the dodging and attacking on point. you start to look for what's next you can hunt
OMG THANKS SO MUCH
You're welcome and good luck
Thx man, I was wondering how to attack, glad I uses to play PlayStation ages ago so ik X is A for me, subbing
Thank you I appreciate the support
Thank you! Second sound queue is hard to hear and I kept missing! I never thought to turn down music in game and it seems so obvious now lol. Also could do with better headphones but can’t fix everything lol
yeah this is something that the game needs to improve on
They seem to have adjusted it in time since (playing on xbox1) to have the cue sound off over the music in priority, and to have a bright green visual cue on the left side of the screen for when the action will be successful.
That said, in addition, there _are_ premeds that can be used to shield against the specific injuries (poisoning, bleeding, bonebreaks) over having to heal afterward (relating to specific foods and whether or not they can be Grindstoned).
maybe they made some adjustments to the game in some recent updates to make it a little bit easier
Can you explain the Xbox thing again. I am on Xbox too and dont hear any cues?
@@H0dy72 When you are attempting an action that requires a specific amount of time doing it to succeed (sharpening a stick with a rock, bashing two rocks together without breaking them, stripping a leaf), hold the action down and within a few seconds an audio cue should be audible and a light should shine to indicate the proper timing. Continuing past that cue too far makes it fail anyway, and not getting to it doesn’t give a result.
But that does require being able to hear it happen. Maybe check your settings? There are difficulty settings that remove that, iirc, it has been a bit since I’ve played.
Ok so no Cue on Xbox at all and the green visual is once its done correctly - weird?
@@alecLogan Thanks will try that again
I learned how to fight i used to be at the bottom of the food chain but now I’m at the top
Ashamed to say that I lost 3 tribesmen before figuring this out
I failed many times before I actually got it right but I was fortunate to be solo and not lose anybody
Lololol
3 ... I have killed 7 monkeys cause they keep falling over and dying
Im trying to quit out The game before it happens. Dont want to die just because The game attack and dodge mechanic is gae
Thank you from switzerland👏🏼
you're welcome and good luck
I've watched your video several times now, and I absolutely cannot make out the soundque you refer to.. What to dooo
So the second sound is the environment getting louder?
Sometimes I hate that this game doesn’t tell me things, especially when those things are essential. First time I played, I missed the tutorial pop up box saying to press up on the d-pad to see the objective, and proceeded to spend about 2-3 hours wandering around looking at stuff and conquering areas. Until I eventually got frustrated on not having a clue on what to do, I decided to just press every button on the controller to see what it did.
Like, I appreciate that we get to learn a lot by ourselves as not many games do that nowadays, but it might be a good idea to add a reminder to check the objective if someone has been playing for around 15-20 in-game days and still hasn’t crafted a bed yet.
yeah there's a lot that they don't tell you in a game that they should have
Cheers man very useful indeed thanks
You're welcome and good luck
YES MAN I finally did it 👍
There's genuinely no noise que for me
I tired so much to not look anything up on ancestors but I got tired of being mutilated by all the damn cats that only seem to come up when your standing still checking on everyone in the group. Now maybe I can fight back. Thanks for the help. I had to break a rule on this game. Don't Google. Figure it out . Oh well. Love how hard the game is. I bet it want be as hard without the constant bleeding.
My clan was massacred 8.000.000 years ago by some lions.Poor apes they just learned how to walk on 2 legs.RIP CLAN.
Glad I watched this before getting wrecked by predators.
My sound ques are different and louder. Maybe they changed it or something but it took me a bit to figure out this system but once I did I was golden. I pick fights now lol 😂
Man this game seems kinda easy once you figure out how to make a spear... Like I have been playing for pretty much 10 minutes now and I have successfully crafted sticks of both kinds, lifted rocks, cured bleeding, found a few foods, mated once... It feels like I'm not even a full year into the game and I already have pretty much everything done that I would expect of a game like this outside of successfully kill something and only cuz I didn't know I needed 2 sticks instead of one...
i have my music off and i don't get a sound que
Just hold down till you hear ir I had this problem didn’t hold it long enough
So basically I'm deaf.
Yeah I can’t hear it
@@luftschiff1069 I eventually figured out how to listen to it and months later they updated it to be more obvious.
Thankyou lol I kept spamming the button. Maybe now I'll chill out 😂
you're welcome and good luck
It keeps saying bad luck and that i did it right but next time maybe it will
thanks a lot =)
You're welcome!
It worked wonderfully against a boar :D
But not so well against a Crocodile xD i got "unlucky" and had to run away
thanks!
Welcome!
I must be deaf because I don't hear any audio cue. This is a terrible combat system.
Unless you know how to grab the honey from a beehive which is pretty easy too but how's it work against a tiger?
Thank you
You're welcome
I just wish the sharpening was faster and the attacking was simpler in some way
For the snake bite just go to the nearest water source and the infection will go away once you drank enough water
I am in the first settlement and try to kill a green mamba for like 20 times. I never hear a sound, she bites me and it the screen gets blurry and I am wading around. If I tried the warthog, I get injured and can barely walk.
I have absolute no clue how this is supposed to ever get better?
Listen i play this on the PC thanks to a torrent Codex, and MY GOD did combat frustrate me... Still does, I HEAR THE CLICK... I LET GO... *AND I RECEIVE A NICE SMACK FROM THE WARTHOG AND GET A BROKEN BONE... I HEARD THE CLICK I LET GO RIGHT ON TIME HOW THE HELL- CONFUSED SCREAMING*
Ok, i got the hang of attacking. really good at it now... But sometimes when it clicks and i let go... It just shows that i'm not holding the spacebar anymore. SAME WITH DOGDING, WITH DODGING IT DOESN'T EVEN GIVE ME A SOUND CUE BRUH
I hold it down then when I hear click I wait 1 sec and then attack I always land a good attack
Having trouble i dont hear the indicator i turned up my headphones and it wasn't there what do i do?
Do you anyways have to dodge first before you can try and attack. Just started this game. I'm glad I bought on sale. So frustrating, yet I appreciate the ambition of the creators.
not normally but most of the time an attack will come and you're not really prepared so dodging first will help you set up for the attack
@@GamingWithAbyss are you able to attack barehanded, or use a rock??
Pointy stick takes too long, and the apes keep dropping it. But I got dodging down.
@@joshmoonXY I killed an animal with a sharpen Rock but I don't remember doing one bare handed. Eventually your Apes will get better at fighting and stop dropping them
@@GamingWithAbyss how you sharpen a rock? With another rock?
@@joshmoonXY yes with another rock and if you can get the basalt and smashed two of those together that is probably one of the strongest sharpen one
What is the actual sound that we are listening for? The first one is obvious but is the second one just the little "click"? Just saying "the sound que" doesn't really explain anything.
3 spears in the Black cat and didn't die
2 spears in the Golden cat and no luck
killed a green mamba at the first attack 🤔
I have a question. I played this game with keyboard but now I am searching for a controller. Does any X-Box Controller work or do I have to pick that one which is shown in the settings, if I have to use the one shown in the Settings do you know what Model it is?
Why on earth would you make an audio queue and then play loud music over it?
Mine isn't making the sound this game makes this way to difficult to attack just pointless
I'm not getting that second noise (it's the metallic "snik" noise, right?). I managed to wound the pig once by timing visually, but couldn't get it right since then.
i crafted the spear but i killed my homonoids for trying to kill predators thank u this game is really hard D:
no problem
I do not have a 2nd sound?? why is that
I am 100% sure about the 2nd sound missing
Thanks
No problem
Question! I heard that when you unlock the ability to slow down time, it actually initiates an attack QuickTime event without you having to wait for your foe to attack you first. Is there any truth to this?
I don't know yet I did not unlock that ability
Thankyou! Holy shit. I was so confused I was hitting the X button and pointing my left stick one direction and didn't know to release at all, then I tried releasing both the X button and the left stick was still getting railed. The devs weren't lying i guess when they said they weren't gonna help you at all.
You're welcome
Finally gave up and actually went to this up because I’m close to finishing up the desert and my ass was getting whooped
Bro I can't hear the first sound que
That's why I turn off the music because it can be difficult to hear
sound ques... Huh. On Xbox you don't NEED it. You get a controller vibration.
How many times will i jave to repeat until i hear the sound sometimes ive managed to dodge and attack but i still can hear a second sound i have repeated it 10 times
Is it luck to get a kill or is it random? I keep braking the stick on the warthogs
