  • Check your brake pads. If they are contaminated most likely you will have less braking power. Cleaning rotors is okay but not brake pads. Center rotor between brake pads.

    You should never use a screwdriver, it can damage the surface of the piston. A plastic tyre lever will do it best. 😉

      That was a specific Park Tool(presumably) , used to exercise the pistons. I've used this tool with great success, on brand new brakes. No pads were damaged in this process.

    • @Henryisvegan

      Yes you can unscrew the bleed port at the top. Make sure you clean your pistons with some alcohol or water. Sometimes you gotta work the pistons at an angle to get them to go back. Make sure you push the pistons in evenly.

    My disk brakes dont have enough space between the pads and causes the rotor to rub against the pads. I noticed this when I had recently cleaned them because they were making a howling noise. What do I do? Should I replace the whole thing?

    So my brakes are 4 piston and i push them in one by one but then other pistons come out and i can never get them all in at once. Because of this i cant fit new brake pads in and even the old worn ones rub the rotor. Any help would be really appreciated.

    • @deniahmetaj
      @deniahmetaj Рік тому

      Hey. Idk if you already fixed your issue but I think that’s because you might have too much oil in the system (if you have bled them with used pads installed perhaps), and the new, wider, pads need more space. Either use a syringe or flip the bike with the bleed port open and pump the brake a couple of times so a bit of oil comes out. Don’t forget to bleed them again once you have installed the new pads.
      Disclaimer: this tip is intended for bikers who don’t have every tool necessary for the most by-the-book bleed and want a diy fix.

    • @robertmotion
      @robertmotion 6 місяців тому

      u have to bleed the caliper first. Brake fluid is what's pushing the other pistons out when u push one in. Bleed the brake first ... problem solved.

    • @Henryisvegan
      @Henryisvegan  Рік тому +2

      That’s kind of normal. When you push one in then the fluid travels to the other piston so one will jut out. Do you have Shimano brakes?

      Wipe the pistons down, spray alcohol on them and clean them. They could be dirty. It may also just need to be pushed in just right with a tool. Try using a tire lever (which may snap) or a 13mm wrench. Flat head screwdriver may work but be careful that you don’t damage your pistons too much.
