My mind is blown that too many losing heroines is a toss right after twins was a keep. The former is my frontrunner for best of the season right now. The characters actually have personality and depth beyond "omg I'm in love with the protagonist" and as a result the conversations are great. On top of that we get to see some of the female characters focus on themselves further developing them as individuals instead of just a love interest. It's also funny when it wants to be. The artstyle and animation is great. Like, I actually have zero complaints and every episode so far has been better than the last.
Too Many Losing Herorine's is one of the best anime of the season. The visuals look amazing. They really showcase how lived in the world is like scruff marks on the floor in the classroom. Attention to detail is amazing. Apparently even before the first volume of the LN released, it was being discussed for an anime adaptation. And according to the A1 president, they have their A team working on it.
@@lubossoltes321 I have watched it and read what the manga has at the moment and it's good, I expected a harem where every rejected heroine revolves around the MC, but it looks like it will go with more focus on the group dynamic, in which, to my surprise, other male character actually play an important role. But, being honest, is one of those animes you need to actually be less than 20 or even 18 years old (not graduated from highschool is what I mean) to actually enjoy to it's fullest, as a young adult I know the chracters are good, the animation great and the jokes land perfectly but I just can't be fully absorbed by it, it is clearly aimed strongly for the highschool demographic

I'm delighted that A-1 Studios has brought their A game for this, as I had my reservations, especially after the production delays they suffered during "86" and the first season of "Nier". I really enjoyed the "lived-in" details that they are adding to the school and other buildings. Maybe it's my experience building plastic models and "weathering" them to make them look more realistic that is attracting me so much to this show. And, Team Lemon all the way!!

Thanks, very useful Edit: Looking through the list makes it clear that it isn't as much romance in that season as people get the impression, but quite many different flavors of fantasy. Maybe some of it is Isekai, but often just mildly. Not much sci-fi, and the few sci-fi shows include two robot girl romance stories.
i have to admit that i almost dropped it after the first episode as well as I really didn't find any of the characters even remotely interesting. But I am very happy that I didn't, because the second and third episodes were both excellent.
the scenes are beautiful. the animation style is top notch. the comedy hits its mark. story is S-tier. really a miss for Tristan. the ED looks like it was cell shaded on top real film! the director of photography is winning on this.
Like I understand not being someone cup of tea but it kinda hurts seeing being tossed while shows that are more generic and not even close in terms of production being in the hold.
It really is. I like the fresh take. Heck, I'll be happy even if this setting just keeps on going for the season, the MC doesn't really need to be the... "main" character so to speak. Kinda sad that GR's tossing it, but to each their own
It is good, but is one of those animes you need to not have finished highschool to enjoy to it's fullest, it's demographic is very clearly aimed towards that, I tell you as a young adult that enjoys the show, I enjoy the show, the jokes land perfectly, the animations is great the characters are funny and interesting but I simply cannot go beyond simply enjoying what I'm watching, nothing in my self tells me "this is gold" while Im seeing it, maybe if I watched it at the age I watched haruhi I would be amazed by it.

Yeah the animation alone should have been a hold at the very least. Somehow I feel like he was doing something else while watching Losing heroines because he thinks its just another one of those romantic shows and missed out on the good parts of the first episode.
I know right? I noped out of Alya the moment the titular character sucker kicks the main character and then slides by his semi-conscious body to run away. I don’t take kindly to female characters undeservedly assaulting their love interest.
Na... Alya series is a must keep! Dude's sister Yuki is dope! And the twist with Alya's sister, has added interest to the story! But I do really like Losing Heroines also!
Senpai wa Otokonoko is the gem of the season. The first 3 episodes have already shown us it is anything but ordinary, and I really don't expect this to end in "trash". The 'love triangle' is not the main focus, and there is much more to it than just a general anime trope.
Oh dear. Tossing Mayonaka Punch was a mistake. Give that anime another chance, because ep 4 was the best Zombieland Saga episode I've seen since 2021. Seriously, this show keep growing for each ep.
It's a shame people don't even know about Dead Dead Demon's or don't review it because it was released during the end of spring (if you count episode 0) ~ start of summer.
I am watching it, but I don't really get it, starts off like ita going to be about a dad who wakes up in the future to hunt for his daughter, but then immediately goes back in time and is about a bunch of young girls with an alien back drop, I keep waiting for something to happen, and OK we had the fall/jump with a lead, which riasied questions, but I can see why no one's watching it.

The “dubtitles” which CR used from the third-party company, are absolutely garbage. Oh you want on-screen text translated? Nah, you’re not allowed to have that. That’s not my only issue with the dubtitles, there’s some of those “agenda” inserts too. It’s a shame because I was super excited for its unique-looking story/world.

To say just after watch My Deer Friend Nokotan that is way worse by every standards than Mayonaka Punch... I forced myself through 3 episodes of Nokotan and that's more than enough for me. While the 4 episodes of Mayonaka Punch out so far made me want to see more.
I thought it was pretty clear that in vtuber legend, the vtubers aren’t literally looking like their avatars. I mean, in the first time we see the “real” vtuber, it’s shown how a 3d model is constructed, showing that it’s representing the vtuber and not how they actually look, further supported by the latest episode released (which I will not hold you to cause the script was probably written before then).
You should keep Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, it is funnier than you though, the boy not only witnessed 1 girl loosing her love, there will be more afterwards, and many comedies happening afterwards. And the anime is very well animated. Please don't toss it.😢

A few years ago, two Japanese girls, who must have been 15 or 16, stayed for a few weeks as exchange students with an old lady who lived next door to me. We threw a local party for them and i brought an old, small inflatable pool that me and my sister used as kids. The girls asked the lady if they could go into the pool. She let them, pointing out where the bathroom was so they could change. Their English was bad and they didn't understand the instructions. They opened their backpacks, took out their swimsuits but, to our shock, instead of going to the bathroom, they simply started changing in front of about 20 strangers. As if it was nothing, as if we weren't even there, as cheerful as this anime girl. Instead of stopping them, the lady could only scream "dont look!". Everyone turned around to give them the privacy we could (and they didnt care) in such a hurry. The girls changed right there, in the open, not even trying to hide anything, and went to the pool as if nothing had happened. I still don't know WTF was that.
I really appreciate these reviews that come out mid-season when there's enough episodes to actually tell if a show is good (rather than relying on just the trailers or pilots). Excellent job!
Although that should had been the case, he very openly says that at the timing of him writing the script some shows had just one episode, So for the most part this was done with most of the first episodes for each series and maybe 2/3 for some, it just (probably) takes him a while to actually watch them & write the script and record/edit.
Wistoria is definitely something I recommend keeping up with. As someone who kept up with the manga I can tell you it'll be really good. And with how the animation has been it'll REALLY be good.
For the Vtuber anime I think you wrong about why the MC and her friends look like that That is because we see her also in filter. We as a anime watcher also doesn't know their real look.
This is exactly the case; a later episode sees the MC interacting with a faceless mob character only for them to suddenly turn into their avatar upon MC realizing that she's been talking to a big-name VTuber all this time. Though to be fair, I had exactly the same reaction when I watched the first episode.

This unfortunately always happens to anime that start in the middle of the season -- too late for the Spring recaps, too early for the Summer ones. And so they then always end up neglected and forgotten. No one talks about True Cooking Master Boy, outside of the general Bushiroad gacha fandom D4DJ is only known for the "Slickback Hyping/Death Threats" meme, and so on.

you're missing out if you missed Suicide Squad Isekai; seriously, you WILL find the Japanese take on DCs best IP interesting; it's very similar while being VERY different, with a bit of strictly anime flavour in the mix. The nuances are tricky to pinpoint with this mixture, but it's incredibly watchable. I usually prefer narrative and concept over other aspects of an anime, but this really entertains me.
I didn't really make my point clear, my bad. I agree other isekai are better, in fact other Suicide Squad cartoons are mostly better too, it's just this particular take, I find it interesting in where it comes from, the differences in character treatment etc. You gotta admit, despite anything else, the characters are different to normal: Mangarized or something (could just be me but I'm enjoying myself, so I'll keep watching it).
Keep an eye on Shoushimin! There's more to it than meets the eye, and it may come across as sort of "plastic" or fake in the first few episodes. That's very much intentional, and the story takes a VERY unique direction later on.
Of course he tosses some of the best stuff (Atri, Makeine, 2.5D Seduction). Shocker 😂 But I'll give him some points for keeping Days with My Stepsister, Alya, Nokotan and Love is Inidivisble by Twins.
As a manga reader I'll at least defend him on 2.5D Seduction. The series has a rough first impression. Personally if I hadn't decided to randomly buy the first four volumes on a discount I probably would have bounced off at Volume 1 myself.
The UA-camr anime is a commentary on mental health, notice how she doesn’t see people that aren’t important to her or also a UA-camr? She is an alcoholic That doesn’t see people that aren’t useful. Very interesting and there are so many layers on this. Also, it’s very fourth wall breaking with anime named drops. So far, they already talked about high school, DXD and school days. It’s pretty meta.
Seriously, as someone who read the webtoon, it is a deep and complex story with lots of heavy themes and he just doesn't pay attention to that at all?! All 3 leads have f-ed up family lives to varying degrees and all are queer and it is so wonderful if depressing at times. GR has been not uploading much and when he does, it seems to be about ignoring the best anime
Bye Bye Earth is currently my favorite show of the season. It feels like such a fresh air compared to the countless samey isekai fantasy airing all the time. It is also very much different from other great recent fantasy shows like Frieren or Dungeon Meshi as it relies less on common fantasy tropes and instead tries to "create" its worldbuilding from the ground up (although it still relies on some tropes). The only thing that might turn some people off is that it introduces new (genuinely interesting) ideas at such a rapid pace that it is really hard to follow sometimes. It really reminded me a bit of Made in Abyss in that sense, although without the horror themes present in that show.
There's a lot of really good new anime this season, but I think my surprise favorite is Makeine: Too many Losing Heroines! Gorgeous animation, good voice acting, great characters; it has it all. Also really enjoying Days with my Stepsister and Wistoria: Wand and Sword.
For the Elusive Samurai, a lot of the time period isn't really covered, so the author (same guy as freaking Assassination Classroom) takes a lot of liberties to make it more friendly towards people who aren't so invested into Japanese History. To paraphrase the manga: "Hojo Tokiyuki is a name studied for the test, but completely forgotten afterwards", since so little of his story is actually historically written. Basically you don't need to worry too much about knowing the history for that time period.
Regarding the Vtuber show's characters not changing designs off-stream, I thought it was obvious that that wasn't their actual appearance? I mean pretty much every 'human' characters are drawn as headless floating 2d things, and all other vtubers keep their designs off-stream so...
For sure, it's to allow for the kayfabe of them actually being the vtuber 24/7 , but I liked that the latest episode played with this with a certain vtuber initially appearing as a background character. Wouldn't have been able to do that to the same affect if it wasn't stylized this way
yeah, but granted it takes a bit of critical thinking and media literacy to step back and get that the staging is not literal. that indeed this is one of those shows where you shouldn't take a lot of what's displayed on screen as 100% representative of what's actually occurring. reminds me of how Sabage-bu would have these bloody action-packed gunfights with a disclaimer that much of it was just within the girls' imagination.

Not going to lie, Makeine is going to be fighting for anime of the season, in my opinion. It’s really tugging between Alya-san and Makeine for me, then Oshi no Ko isn’t far behind either.

I couldn't agree more. A couple of years ago, when "Fena: Pirate Princess" came out, I thought for sure Tristan would rip it for "not sticking the landing", as it's final arc was a textbook example of that. But, he absolutely RAVED about the show! I was like: is this the same person that I've been watching for years?

It's his more recent takes where I think he's rejecting these very same, more unique concepts off the bat, that I'm starting to notice. But I think a lot of this can be credited to very different tastes in the end....
Honestly he's always had... questionable taste. But I've always just assumed it's because he and I have very different taste when it comes to what makes a show good or not, and differences in genres we prefer. Lately though... I may just have to give up on his recs and stick to waiting for Mother's Basement's video.
His taste is precisely why I'm watching him and not Mother's Basement's season reviews. Not really interested in anime which sole point is cute tropey girls doing cute things nor umptienth isekai, sports anime or battle shonen. The truth of the matter is that like Tristan, I'm an older fan, and I'm plain bored of most anime at this point. I'm just not the target audience, I'm not a young adult. But I know that sometimes there are gems there. That's why I watch reviews at all before watching anything myself - when you're working and you have a family you lack the time to sample every anime to find maybe one that you can be bothered to watch in its entirety. And I feel that MB focuses way too much on what's the most popular (and therefore bringing in the most views) to reliably help me find said gems. His analysis vids are not bad though.
Makeine has become my favorite anime of this season so far. It's hard to explain why, everything just comes together really well - the production quality (especially the cinematography), the music, the the characters, the writing. It feels like a masterpiece in the making. Every episode I watch feels like I am in my own home cinema.
Mayonaka Punch's first episode kind of let it down to be honest. It gets much better in later episodes as the characters get better development. Episode 4 especially was a major tear-jerker.
Gotta check on the ONA section too, you missed Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction, which is one of the best if you liked Tengoku Daimakyou (Heavenly Delusion), also the new Code Geass anime (Dakkan no Roze) is pretty good.
I enjoy the game it's fun and unlike normal rpgs where you put points in your stats. You get stronger by eating the rice you grow and your tought how to grow rice and new like months you will gain new tools to make growing rice easier.

I'm pretty sure I've never seen a show with a similar premise as VTuber Legend. But I _have_ watched _actual_ VTubers, and frankly this might be the most realistic show of the season.
I'm glad you liked Dungeon People so much! It's my #2 anime this season but a lot of people don't seem to rate it as highly. However, my #1 is Mayonaka Punch, and I'm utterly baffled on why you seem to hate it??? As for VTuber Legend, the reason behind the characters looking like their avatars can be summed up in 1 word: Kayfabe. Yes, we know the people behind the avatars don't actually look like the avatars. But we're pretending that they do, so as to not ruin the magic of VTubing. Spoilers for the most recent episode below: In the most recent episode, the protagonist meets another character who at the time is depicted as one of the featureless cardboard cutouts that all non-VTubers are depicted as. But then near the end it's revealed that it actually was one of the VTubers, and the cardboard cutout immediately transforms to look like the VTuber in question. It's very clear that this merely represents a shift in perspective on the protagonist's side (not an actual transformation), thus also proving that the characters don't actually look like how we see them because otherwise this reveal would not have been possible.
@@NoidoDev Dungeon People is quite chill most of the time, yeah. It's also quite funny and cute a lot of the time. Though the show doesn't shy away from very graphic violence. There's not really any ecchi, the show is very tasteful. There *was* one scene where the MC was naked for a moment, but even that scene was handled fairly tastefully.

This was a great intro to a bunch of different shows. I started watching Senpai is an Otokonoko and I’m hooked. Already spoiled myself by bingeing the manga lol. It seems to be vibing with people who enjoyed Wandering Son, but Senpai is an Otokonoko is a lot more humorous. Might start a couple of other shows from this season…but I never finished shows from last season 😅
This is the list I'm always hyped to watch every time they come out. Oshi no ko, Alya, Shikanoko, Isekai Shikkaku, Makeine. Though I'm obviously watching other shows.
QA in dungeon doesn't use debug mode not because "someone told him to", but because it actively destroys the VR world intoducing more and more glitches and broken functionality - both for NPC and players.
No Longer Allowed in Another World main character is actually inspired by Osamu Dazai - No Longer Human. Seeing the author in this Isekai is so surreal, one of the best anime this season for me.
In "I Parry Everything". MC is actually prodigy in all 6 schools. He reached unparallel heights in mastery of single skill of each. For example, his "Little Light" is actually star at his fingertip. (And is far from little.) His basic heal meant for scratches can instantly heal deep wounds. (And he does not get those unless hit by magic/attacks which would obliterate regular adventurers.) It has quite some comedy factors. If you do not fall into trap of thinking that he is dumb, you can enjoy the show where hood hearted MC is ignorant of reality and mistaken by circumstances.
Damn, you did Mayonaka Punch a disservice. Maybe it’s because it’s your job, and you’d rather avoid stories about it because you think it’s cringe? I think it’s pretty funny, all the vamps have fun personalities except the strict one; waiting for her to get more involved and let loose a little bit.
Senpai is an Otokonoko sure it has a love triangle but that is a subplot to help do extremely well written character stories that are extremely grounded in reality. The romance section is there sure but that was not the main selling point of the original LINE webtoon.
Agreed, Rick becoming aware of his strength, and the entire flashback episode (episode 4) was so good. They could have stuck to the oblivious MC who always underestimates himself trope. But they didn't, and it feels so fresh tbh, he's making progress with his confidence, and it feels natural. I just feel like he didn't give it much of a chance and put the video out before getting to the later episodes.
Those where my thoughts I've seen so many people wanna drop " I parry everything" because they hate the everyone is stupid because plot. Me personally I know he's ignorant of what's going on and nobody tells him anything important. They just expect him to know what he's doing meanwhile he just casually takes out some of the biggest threats to the kingdom. Now ossan is getting traction because he knows he's strong now and there's none of that rank tells your strengths thing keeping down anymore.
for real! They're two takes on the same show except Ossan Newbie Adventurer is just... objectively funnier in every way. Also Ossan Newbie Adventurer's OP being done by the same guy that did the Toriko OP is just... chef's kiss.
I'm not gonna lie, casually glossing over the gender exploration at play in Senpai is an Otokonoko in favor of "romcom triangle" is kinda odd. Like, yeah, there's some romcommy stuff in the background, but in the foreground for every episode has been a clear conversation about the protagonists gender and gender presentation, and what it means for them. As far as that goes, it's really good so far. Plus their dad was so supportive wtf best dad this season
Would anyone else like to see a Glass Reflection video where our protagonist discusses anime that focus on being a UA-camr or Vtuber? I've noticed an upswing of anime on the matter and would love some honest (and frosty) opinions on the subject.
I have again learned that glass reflection has the exact opposite opinion than me when it comes to enjoyable anime. All the ones i liked this season was either toss or hold and the ones i did not care for at all was alot of keep for him.
honestly I'm pretty similar. It's one of the reasons I stick around to watch his stuff, because I know generally that if he doesn't like something I probably will, and if he does I probably won't.
43:27 bro there’s a reason for this. Precure has been dominating for 20 years now. No one can make something that will compete. If you miss them that much check a season out. For senpai otanoko… and a lot of shows, you seem only focused on romance rather then anything else something could be. I thought it was clearly about people coming to terms with what they are gender/sexuality wise. But boiling it down to just “a love triangle” seems harsh, and I’m not even the biggest fan of it I also echo the losing heroine takes already here. Shows peak.
Tossing Failure Frame is a mistake. While it gives off Insta Death Isekai vibes, the MC is smart about using his power. I like it, which is more than I could say about Explorer Hero. I gave up on that one after 4 boring episodes. But I like Failure Frame because everyone in this world thinks the way the "goddess" does. Status effects suck because she says they suck. Some magic is Forbidden because she says it is. What is different between Instant Death and Failure is how they treated him before getting powers. That he was "air" and picked on constantly, which mirrored how his parents treated him. Five episodes in and he has survived the disposal dungeon, found some ancient writings, gained a pet, and a companion. Meanwhile, his classmates are either turning into powerful weapons or being threatened with disposal. What kind of goddess answers to a king? Royal decree, she said. I don't know but I'm going to find out. Will it end up like Insta Death? I hope not. The ending was so unsatisfying.
After watching some of these I came back to your video to comment this: it was a mistake of you to Keep Watching I Parry Everything while Tossing The Ossan Newbie Adventurer. They are similar shows, but Ossan is actually good, while protagonist of Parry loses his braincells as the show goes on. Both shows feature a middle-aged protagonist who becomes an adventurer and that is looked down upon, both have no skills that are considered useful while being overpowered. Both MC's are oblivious to their own power, but in Ossan it kind of make sense because his training experience was with his S-class trainers who didnt hold back on him with their awesome powers, meanwhile Parry guy casually parries 1000 swords at once and sees himself as a weakling, not to mention the giant minotaur he thought was a big cow, calling him Simpleton is making him look good here. In Ossan there are characters that experience change, including MC, meanwhile Parry is just a joke that is losing its charm eventually.
Things i watch this season. Failure Frame - Arifuretta Lite Wistoria - Mashle Potter. Akaneko Ramen - ...well, i like ramen. Also, having a tiger in cat cafe is hilarious. I parry everything - inverse One Punch Man Ossan adventurer - ditto Why does nobody remember... - gives me slight .hack// vibes.
Glad you're giving the Quality Assurance anime a chance. I will say it DOES get explained why he doesn't use the debugger stone in a way I think will make absolute sense to you when you see it.
The shows I'm watching this season: _Bye Bye Earth:_ By this time episode 3 has come out and so far I'm curious as to what direction this story is taking, but the outright statement by the series that there is a "deus ex machina" going on has got me worried. My guessing is this is post-apocalypse, but who knows? _Dahlia In Bloom:_ Feeling the same as you do, though I'm someone offput by the animation and I can't put my finger on why. _Dungeon People:_ I think with the success of _Delicious in Dungeon,_ we'll be seeing a lot more such series coming out, and I say "Yay!" _Mayonaka Punch:_ Until this week's episode, I was going to say I enjoy the zany antics (Sidebar - whatever happened to "zany antics?" Why is there little succor for those of us who have always enjoyed them?) of the group, but this week's episode was a hell of a gut punch and only made me even more interested in the lives of these crazies. And as an original from PA Works, how could I not? Also, there's shorts being released right here on UA-cam that only make the show that much easier to love. _The Deer Show:_ This is a show that has a lot of manufactured hype around it, and after four episodes I'm coming to the conclusion the emperor has no clothes and is just shotgunning shit to see what sticks. Any one minute of _Pop Team Epic_ outdoes the series in sheer balls-to-the-wall insanity, it relies too much on embarassment humor, and honestly, I like Mayonaka Punch's OP *way *more. _No Longer Allowed In Another World:_ I could spend a lot of time explaining why I am enjoying the hell out of this series, but I have to get my pitch ready for my idea of "Magical Girl Yukio Mishima." _Plus-Size Elf:_ ua-cam.com/video/1VF3PykG8zU/v-deo.html _Quality Assurance In Another World:_ As of this post, the series has dropped some serious gutpunches, and I am going to watch it with gusto. _Ramen Aka Neko:_ Some of the worst CGI this season, but damned if I can't stop watching it. Having Yor Forger's VA playing a tiger is just icing on the cake. _Sakuna Rice And Ruin:_ It's actually gotten better since you made this, with character development happening for a few of the humans as well. And learning how rice was grown pre-mechanization both fascinates me and makes my back hurt. _VTuber Legend:_ What they're doing is similar to what was done in _Oddtaxi,_ where the viewpoint presented was how she sees herself and the others around her, to the point that people who were not VTs appear as emoji. I'd probably see things like that too after a couple of StroZeroes. Honestly, this is more shows than I ended up with in Spring. Children throwing temper tantrums is a uniquely American problem, because pretty much every other country in the world allows parents to discipline their children. I've never even heard of a "temper tantrum" until I came to north america at around age 16. Definitely never seen one prior to that. So the twins behaving is only an anomaly to Americans who think little kids being little monsters is the norm.
Wanted to say thank you for having this series where you give your thoughts and opinions on currently airing anime. Ever since Crunchyroll got rid of their written reviews and ability to comment on episodes, I'm kinda wary to take a watch at any anime who's synopsis isn't clear on what it's suppose to be. Thanks to this, a few that I've been on the fence about, I now have a better idea on what they are like.
"Failure frame" has good classmates and bad classmates have their own conflicts with each other, while the MC is just out there, preparing to kill the evil goddess directly.
I know plenty of others have mentioned this but tossing Makeine is bonkers to me. Its made me nearly die of laughter so many times and the animation is superb. For his sake I hope he returns to it at some point.
49:41 it’s a creative decision. It’s a comedy for one. Juggling 10 characters and their avatars would be a lot. I know I’d find it a little difficult to keep track of. This way you know at all times who’s who. It’s also pretty fun when the main character gets a new outfit for her avatar and she starts wearing it.
My mind is blown that too many losing heroines is a toss right after twins was a keep. The former is my frontrunner for best of the season right now. The characters actually have personality and depth beyond "omg I'm in love with the protagonist" and as a result the conversations are great. On top of that we get to see some of the female characters focus on themselves further developing them as individuals instead of just a love interest. It's also funny when it wants to be. The artstyle and animation is great. Like, I actually have zero complaints and every episode so far has been better than the last.
Every anime on Crunchyroll must be a masterpiece because I haven't seen any negative comments.

Too Many Losing Herorine's is one of the best anime of the season. The visuals look amazing. They really showcase how lived in the world is like scruff marks on the floor in the classroom. Attention to detail is amazing. Apparently even before the first volume of the LN released, it was being discussed for an anime adaptation. And according to the A1 president, they have their A team working on it.

@@lubossoltes321 I have watched it and read what the manga has at the moment and it's good, I expected a harem where every rejected heroine revolves around the MC, but it looks like it will go with more focus on the group dynamic, in which, to my surprise, other male character actually play an important role.
But, being honest, is one of those animes you need to actually be less than 20 or even 18 years old (not graduated from highschool is what I mean) to actually enjoy to it's fullest, as a young adult I know the chracters are good, the animation great and the jokes land perfectly but I just can't be fully absorbed by it, it is clearly aimed strongly for the highschool demographic
honestly the animation is what got my attention in the first place. and ive been enjoying it so far
@@strayorion2031 I will disagree with you on the age aspect. I'm 53 and I'm enjoying this show way more than I thought I would. I'm delighted that A-1 Studios has brought their A game for this, as I had my reservations, especially after the production delays they suffered during "86" and the first season of "Nier". I really enjoyed the "lived-in" details that they are adding to the school and other buildings. Maybe it's my experience building plastic models and "weathering" them to make them look more realistic that is attracting me so much to this show.

Edit: Looking through the list makes it clear that it isn't as much romance in that season as people get the impression, but quite many different flavors of fantasy. Maybe some of it is Isekai, but often just mildly. Not much sci-fi, and the few sci-fi shows include two robot girl romance stories.

i have to admit that i almost dropped it after the first episode as well as I really didn't find any of the characters even remotely interesting. But I am very happy that I didn't, because the second and third episodes were both excellent.
the scenes are beautiful. the animation style is top notch. the comedy hits its mark. story is S-tier. really a miss for Tristan. the ED looks like it was cell shaded on top real film! the director of photography is winning on this.
Like I understand not being someone cup of tea but it kinda hurts seeing being tossed while shows that are more generic and not even close in terms of production being in the hold.

It is good, but is one of those animes you need to not have finished highschool to enjoy to it's fullest, it's demographic is very clearly aimed towards that, I tell you as a young adult that enjoys the show, I enjoy the show, the jokes land perfectly, the animations is great the characters are funny and interesting but I simply cannot go beyond simply enjoying what I'm watching, nothing in my self tells me "this is gold" while Im seeing it, maybe if I watched it at the age I watched haruhi I would be amazed by it.

Senpai wa Otokonoko is the gem of the season. The first 3 episodes have already shown us it is anything but ordinary, and I really don't expect this to end in "trash". The 'love triangle' is not the main focus, and there is much more to it than just a general anime trope.

I am watching it, but I don't really get it, starts off like ita going to be about a dad who wakes up in the future to hunt for his daughter, but then immediately goes back in time and is about a bunch of young girls with an alien back drop, I keep waiting for something to happen, and OK we had the fall/jump with a lead, which riasied questions, but I can see why no one's watching it.

Oh you want on-screen text translated? Nah, you’re not allowed to have that. That’s not my only issue with the dubtitles, there’s some of those “agenda” inserts too. It’s a shame because I was super excited for its unique-looking story/world.

I mean, in the first time we see the “real” vtuber, it’s shown how a 3d model is constructed, showing that it’s representing the vtuber and not how they actually look, further supported by the latest episode released (which I will not hold you to cause the script was probably written before then).
You should keep Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, it is funnier than you though, the boy not only witnessed 1 girl loosing her love, there will be more afterwards, and many comedies happening afterwards. And the anime is very well animated. Please don't toss it.😢

To be fair, thats not too unrealistic to me.
A few years ago, two Japanese girls, who must have been 15 or 16, stayed for a few weeks as exchange students with an old lady who lived next door to me. We threw a local party for them and i brought an old, small inflatable pool that me and my sister used as kids. The girls asked the lady if they could go into the pool. She let them, pointing out where the bathroom was so they could change. Their English was bad and they didn't understand the instructions. They opened their backpacks, took out their swimsuits but, to our shock, instead of going to the bathroom, they simply started changing in front of about 20 strangers. As if it was nothing, as if we weren't even there, as cheerful as this anime girl. Instead of stopping them, the lady could only scream "dont look!". Everyone turned around to give them the privacy we could (and they didnt care) in such a hurry. The girls changed right there, in the open, not even trying to hide anything, and went to the pool as if nothing had happened. I still don't know WTF was that.
I really appreciate these reviews that come out mid-season when there's enough episodes to actually tell if a show is good (rather than relying on just the trailers or pilots). Excellent job!

@@wingracer1614 Haha, even the most thorough review can't account for every taste. Lemme guess: one is Too Many Losing Heroines? It's a blast so far.
Although that should had been the case, he very openly says that at the timing of him writing the script some shows had just one episode, So for the most part this was done with most of the first episodes for each series and maybe 2/3 for some, it just (probably) takes him a while to actually watch them & write the script and record/edit.
Wistoria is definitely something I recommend keeping up with. As someone who kept up with the manga I can tell you it'll be really good. And with how the animation has been it'll REALLY be good.

That is because we see her also in filter. We as a anime watcher also doesn't know their real look.
This is exactly the case; a later episode sees the MC interacting with a faceless mob character only for them to suddenly turn into their avatar upon MC realizing that she's been talking to a big-name VTuber all this time.
Though to be fair, I had exactly the same reaction when I watched the first episode.

And so they then always end up neglected and forgotten. No one talks about True Cooking Master Boy, outside of the general Bushiroad gacha fandom D4DJ is only known for the "Slickback Hyping/Death Threats" meme, and so on.

you're missing out if you missed Suicide Squad Isekai; seriously, you WILL find the Japanese take on DCs best IP interesting; it's very similar while being VERY different, with a bit of strictly anime flavour in the mix. The nuances are tricky to pinpoint with this mixture, but it's incredibly watchable. I usually prefer narrative and concept over other aspects of an anime, but this really entertains me.

I didn't really make my point clear, my bad. I agree other isekai are better, in fact other Suicide Squad cartoons are mostly better too, it's just this particular take, I find it interesting in where it comes from, the differences in character treatment etc. You gotta admit, despite anything else, the characters are different to normal: Mangarized or something (could just be me but I'm enjoying myself, so I'll keep watching it).
Keep an eye on Shoushimin! There's more to it than meets the eye, and it may come across as sort of "plastic" or fake in the first few episodes. That's very much intentional, and the story takes a VERY unique direction later on.

As a manga reader I'll at least defend him on 2.5D Seduction. The series has a rough first impression. Personally if I hadn't decided to randomly buy the first four volumes on a discount I probably would have bounced off at Volume 1 myself.

All 3 leads have f-ed up family lives to varying degrees and all are queer and it is so wonderful if depressing at times. GR has been not uploading much and when he does, it seems to be about ignoring the best anime
Bye Bye Earth is currently my favorite show of the season. It feels like such a fresh air compared to the countless samey isekai fantasy airing all the time. It is also very much different from other great recent fantasy shows like Frieren or Dungeon Meshi as it relies less on common fantasy tropes and instead tries to "create" its worldbuilding from the ground up (although it still relies on some tropes). The only thing that might turn some people off is that it introduces new (genuinely interesting) ideas at such a rapid pace that it is really hard to follow sometimes. It really reminded me a bit of Made in Abyss in that sense, although without the horror themes present in that show.
Fun fact, Kevin penkin is doing the OST for Bye Bye Earth, so there is a direct connection to Made in Abyss.

For the Elusive Samurai, a lot of the time period isn't really covered, so the author (same guy as freaking Assassination Classroom) takes a lot of liberties to make it more friendly towards people who aren't so invested into Japanese History.
To paraphrase the manga: "Hojo Tokiyuki is a name studied for the test, but completely forgotten afterwards", since so little of his story is actually historically written. Basically you don't need to worry too much about knowing the history for that time period.
Regarding the Vtuber show's characters not changing designs off-stream, I thought it was obvious that that wasn't their actual appearance? I mean pretty much every 'human' characters are drawn as headless floating 2d things, and all other vtubers keep their designs off-stream so...
For sure, it's to allow for the kayfabe of them actually being the vtuber 24/7 , but I liked that the latest episode played with this with a certain vtuber initially appearing as a background character. Wouldn't have been able to do that to the same affect if it wasn't stylized this way
yeah, but granted it takes a bit of critical thinking and media literacy to step back and get that the staging is not literal. that indeed this is one of those shows where you shouldn't take a lot of what's displayed on screen as 100% representative of what's actually occurring. reminds me of how Sabage-bu would have these bloody action-packed gunfights with a disclaimer that much of it was just within the girls' imagination.

Not going to lie, Makeine is going to be fighting for anime of the season, in my opinion. It’s really tugging between Alya-san and Makeine for me, then Oshi no Ko isn’t far behind either.
The one with the middle-aged guy becoming an adventurer is hilarious, if you understand that it's a parody.

A couple of years ago, when "Fena: Pirate Princess" came out, I thought for sure Tristan would rip it for "not sticking the landing", as it's final arc was a textbook example of that. But, he absolutely RAVED about the show! I was like: is this the same person that I've been watching for years?

@@paulbishop251 lol I'm actually a Fena defender and think the show got more flack than it deserved for having a truly unique ending and trying to say something a bit more complex than we were expecting, so I'm not a great person for this point to land on. It's his more recent takes where I think he's rejecting these very same, more unique concepts off the bat, that I'm starting to notice. But I think a lot of this can be credited to very different tastes in the end....
Honestly he's always had... questionable taste. But I've always just assumed it's because he and I have very different taste when it comes to what makes a show good or not, and differences in genres we prefer. Lately though... I may just have to give up on his recs and stick to waiting for Mother's Basement's video.
His taste is precisely why I'm watching him and not Mother's Basement's season reviews. Not really interested in anime which sole point is cute tropey girls doing cute things nor umptienth isekai, sports anime or battle shonen. The truth of the matter is that like Tristan, I'm an older fan, and I'm plain bored of most anime at this point. I'm just not the target audience, I'm not a young adult. But I know that sometimes there are gems there. That's why I watch reviews at all before watching anything myself - when you're working and you have a family you lack the time to sample every anime to find maybe one that you can be bothered to watch in its entirety. And I feel that MB focuses way too much on what's the most popular (and therefore bringing in the most views) to reliably help me find said gems. His analysis vids are not bad though.

Makeine has become my favorite anime of this season so far.
It's hard to explain why, everything just comes together really well - the production quality (especially the cinematography), the music, the the characters, the writing.
It feels like a masterpiece in the making. Every episode I watch feels like I am in my own home cinema.

It gets much better in later episodes as the characters get better development.
Episode 4 especially was a major tear-jerker.
Gotta check on the ONA section too, you missed Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction, which is one of the best if you liked Tengoku Daimakyou (Heavenly Delusion), also the new Code Geass anime (Dakkan no Roze) is pretty good.
Sakuna is an interesting premise... for an adaptation. The 2020 video game is available on Steam, PS4/5 and Switch.

I enjoy the game it's fun and unlike normal rpgs where you put points in your stats. You get stronger by eating the rice you grow and your tought how to grow rice and new like months you will gain new tools to make growing rice easier.

I'm pretty sure I've never seen a show with a similar premise as VTuber Legend. But I _have_ watched _actual_ VTubers, and frankly this might be the most realistic show of the season.
Quality assurance is great. Episode 4 is proof of that.
I'm glad you liked Dungeon People so much! It's my #2 anime this season but a lot of people don't seem to rate it as highly. However, my #1 is Mayonaka Punch, and I'm utterly baffled on why you seem to hate it???
As for VTuber Legend, the reason behind the characters looking like their avatars can be summed up in 1 word: Kayfabe. Yes, we know the people behind the avatars don't actually look like the avatars. But we're pretending that they do, so as to not ruin the magic of VTubing. Spoilers for the most recent episode below:
In the most recent episode, the protagonist meets another character who at the time is depicted as one of the featureless cardboard cutouts that all non-VTubers are depicted as. But then near the end it's revealed that it actually was one of the VTubers, and the cardboard cutout immediately transforms to look like the VTuber in question. It's very clear that this merely represents a shift in perspective on the protagonist's side (not an actual transformation), thus also proving that the characters don't actually look like how we see them because otherwise this reveal would not have been possible.
Is Dungeon People rather relaxing? Is it funny? Does it have some echii humor?
@@NoidoDev Dungeon People is quite chill most of the time, yeah. It's also quite funny and cute a lot of the time. Though the show doesn't shy away from very graphic violence.
There's not really any ecchi, the show is very tasteful. There *was* one scene where the MC was naked for a moment, but even that scene was handled fairly tastefully.

This was a great intro to a bunch of different shows. I started watching Senpai is an Otokonoko and I’m hooked. Already spoiled myself by bingeing the manga lol. It seems to be vibing with people who enjoyed Wandering Son, but Senpai is an Otokonoko is a lot more humorous.
Might start a couple of other shows from this season…but I never finished shows from last season 😅

No Longer Allowed in Another World main character is actually inspired by Osamu Dazai - No Longer Human. Seeing the author in this Isekai is so surreal, one of the best anime this season for me.
In "I Parry Everything". MC is actually prodigy in all 6 schools. He reached unparallel heights in mastery of single skill of each.
For example, his "Little Light" is actually star at his fingertip. (And is far from little.) His basic heal meant for scratches can instantly heal deep wounds. (And he does not get those unless hit by magic/attacks which would obliterate regular adventurers.)
It has quite some comedy factors. If you do not fall into trap of thinking that he is dumb, you can enjoy the show where hood hearted MC is ignorant of reality and mistaken by circumstances.

Damn, you did Mayonaka Punch a disservice. Maybe it’s because it’s your job, and you’d rather avoid stories about it because you think it’s cringe? I think it’s pretty funny, all the vamps have fun personalities except the strict one; waiting for her to get more involved and let loose a little bit.
Senpai is an Otokonoko sure it has a love triangle but that is a subplot to help do extremely well written character stories that are extremely grounded in reality. The romance section is there sure but that was not the main selling point of the original LINE webtoon.

Agreed, Rick becoming aware of his strength, and the entire flashback episode (episode 4) was so good. They could have stuck to the oblivious MC who always underestimates himself trope. But they didn't, and it feels so fresh tbh, he's making progress with his confidence, and it feels natural. I just feel like he didn't give it much of a chance and put the video out before getting to the later episodes.
Those where my thoughts I've seen so many people wanna drop " I parry everything" because they hate the everyone is stupid because plot. Me personally I know he's ignorant of what's going on and nobody tells him anything important. They just expect him to know what he's doing meanwhile he just casually takes out some of the biggest threats to the kingdom. Now ossan is getting traction because he knows he's strong now and there's none of that rank tells your strengths thing keeping down anymore.
for real! They're two takes on the same show except Ossan Newbie Adventurer is just... objectively funnier in every way. Also Ossan Newbie Adventurer's OP being done by the same guy that did the Toriko OP is just... chef's kiss.

I'm not gonna lie, casually glossing over the gender exploration at play in Senpai is an Otokonoko in favor of "romcom triangle" is kinda odd. Like, yeah, there's some romcommy stuff in the background, but in the foreground for every episode has been a clear conversation about the protagonists gender and gender presentation, and what it means for them. As far as that goes, it's really good so far.

I have again learned that glass reflection has the exact opposite opinion than me when it comes to enjoyable anime. All the ones i liked this season was either toss or hold and the ones i did not care for at all was alot of keep for him.
honestly I'm pretty similar. It's one of the reasons I stick around to watch his stuff, because I know generally that if he doesn't like something I probably will, and if he does I probably won't.

For senpai otanoko… and a lot of shows, you seem only focused on romance rather then anything else something could be. I thought it was clearly about people coming to terms with what they are gender/sexuality wise. But boiling it down to just “a love triangle” seems harsh, and I’m not even the biggest fan of it

Tossing Failure Frame is a mistake. While it gives off Insta Death Isekai vibes, the MC is smart about using his power. I like it, which is more than I could say about Explorer Hero. I gave up on that one after 4 boring episodes. But I like Failure Frame because everyone in this world thinks the way the "goddess" does. Status effects suck because she says they suck. Some magic is Forbidden because she says it is. What is different between Instant Death and Failure is how they treated him before getting powers. That he was "air" and picked on constantly, which mirrored how his parents treated him. Five episodes in and he has survived the disposal dungeon, found some ancient writings, gained a pet, and a companion. Meanwhile, his classmates are either turning into powerful weapons or being threatened with disposal. What kind of goddess answers to a king? Royal decree, she said. I don't know but I'm going to find out. Will it end up like Insta Death? I hope not. The ending was so unsatisfying.

After watching some of these I came back to your video to comment this: it was a mistake of you to Keep Watching I Parry Everything while Tossing The Ossan Newbie Adventurer. They are similar shows, but Ossan is actually good, while protagonist of Parry loses his braincells as the show goes on.
Both shows feature a middle-aged protagonist who becomes an adventurer and that is looked down upon, both have no skills that are considered useful while being overpowered. Both MC's are oblivious to their own power, but in Ossan it kind of make sense because his training experience was with his S-class trainers who didnt hold back on him with their awesome powers, meanwhile Parry guy casually parries 1000 swords at once and sees himself as a weakling, not to mention the giant minotaur he thought was a big cow, calling him Simpleton is making him look good here. In Ossan there are characters that experience change, including MC, meanwhile Parry is just a joke that is losing its charm eventually.

_Bye Bye Earth:_ By this time episode 3 has come out and so far I'm curious as to what direction this story is taking, but the outright statement by the series that there is a "deus ex machina" going on has got me worried. My guessing is this is post-apocalypse, but who knows?
_Dahlia In Bloom:_ Feeling the same as you do, though I'm someone offput by the animation and I can't put my finger on why.
_Dungeon People:_ I think with the success of _Delicious in Dungeon,_ we'll be seeing a lot more such series coming out, and I say "Yay!"
_Mayonaka Punch:_ Until this week's episode, I was going to say I enjoy the zany antics (Sidebar - whatever happened to "zany antics?" Why is there little succor for those of us who have always enjoyed them?) of the group, but this week's episode was a hell of a gut punch and only made me even more interested in the lives of these crazies. And as an original from PA Works, how could I not? Also, there's shorts being released right here on UA-cam that only make the show that much easier to love.
_The Deer Show:_ This is a show that has a lot of manufactured hype around it, and after four episodes I'm coming to the conclusion the emperor has no clothes and is just shotgunning shit to see what sticks. Any one minute of _Pop Team Epic_ outdoes the series in sheer balls-to-the-wall insanity, it relies too much on embarassment humor, and honestly, I like Mayonaka Punch's OP *way *more.

_Ramen Aka Neko:_ Some of the worst CGI this season, but damned if I can't stop watching it. Having Yor Forger's VA playing a tiger is just icing on the cake.
_Sakuna Rice And Ruin:_ It's actually gotten better since you made this, with character development happening for a few of the humans as well. And learning how rice was grown pre-mechanization both fascinates me and makes my back hurt.
_VTuber Legend:_ What they're doing is similar to what was done in _Oddtaxi,_ where the viewpoint presented was how she sees herself and the others around her, to the point that people who were not VTs appear as emoji. I'd probably see things like that too after a couple of StroZeroes.
Honestly, this is more shows than I ended up with in Spring. I may drop a couple, **koff elf smut koff** but I've had worse seasons.
Children throwing temper tantrums is a uniquely American problem, because pretty much every other country in the world allows parents to discipline their children. I've never even heard of a "temper tantrum" until I came to north america at around age 16. Definitely never seen one prior to that. So the twins behaving is only an anomaly to Americans who think little kids being little monsters is the norm.
Wanted to say thank you for having this series where you give your thoughts and opinions on currently airing anime. Ever since Crunchyroll got rid of their written reviews and ability to comment on episodes, I'm kinda wary to take a watch at any anime who's synopsis isn't clear on what it's suppose to be. Thanks to this, a few that I've been on the fence about, I now have a better idea on what they are like.
"Failure frame" has good classmates and bad classmates have their own conflicts with each other, while the MC is just out there, preparing to kill the evil goddess directly.
I know plenty of others have mentioned this but tossing Makeine is bonkers to me. Its made me nearly die of laughter so many times and the animation is superb. For his sake I hope he returns to it at some point.

49:41 it’s a creative decision. It’s a comedy for one. Juggling 10 characters and their avatars would be a lot. I know I’d find it a little difficult to keep track of. This way you know at all times who’s who. It’s also pretty fun when the main character gets a new outfit for her avatar and she starts wearing it.
