    1) This family has a very bad heart
    Sorcery has become an occupation
    A young fellow like me
They’ve buried sheep’s horn in front of my compound
They’ve set my heart on fire
    So that I won’t marry
    2) What’s anger for, brothers
Because I don’t spend my money on them
    They have removed my heart
And replaced it with that of a chicken
In order for me to become a beggar and date all men
    3) Sorcerers also die
    Even witchcraft also expire
It is better to kill me so that I can die
    I’m tired, me, someone’s child
    4) This family has a very bad heart
    Sorcery has become an occupation
    A young fellow like me
They’ve buried sheep’s horn in front of my compound
They’ve set my heart on fire

    6) Sorcery also dies
    Even witchcraft also expire
It is better to kill me so that I can die
    I’m tired, me, someone’s child
    7) Wealth leave me alone
    I’ve no money
    Why fight
    Sorcery is a bad thing
    Even sorcerers die
    This world belong to someone
    8) I cry for my life
I’m not tired of this world
    The world wants me dead
    I’ve nothing to say
    I’m waiting for my death
    9) Wealth leave me alone
    I’ve no money
    Why fight
    Sorcery is a bad thing
    Even sorcerers die,
    This world belong to someone

@Michael , the song you refer to about mkutano ya waganga ( meeting of witchdoctors ) is called KIPA KISANGAMENI and it was not done in honor of Bavon , Franco was just tired of the evil deeds of the sorcerers and asked them to come together and do something good for a change, you can hear Franco's anger in the song as he sings in his native language.....

I did not say Franco composed it, the name between brackets is the composer and Bavon did record it with Negro Succes, indeed. It's on the very album you see in the clip (African 360.023, 1970). It's Léon Bholen BOMBOLO, typography as on the sleeve, by the way. The three pics under him carry the names Alphonso, Samy and Gaspy. You wouldn't happen to know more about those, would you?

    • @samj757
      @samj757 Рік тому

Thanks Aboubacar for uploading this song many years ago (and many others!). I love this song, but it is one of those that really confuses me to be honest. This version is clearly sang by Franco. But when people talk about Bavon and this song, they usually snidely try to bring Franco's hand into Bavon's death - whether through the sorcery referenced in the song or in other versions of the story, by indirectly causing the accident in which Bavon died (Bavon was supposedly love sick from Franco taking Bavon's girl). As a young lover of this music (and who is also invested in understanding the songs and their stories), I'm interested to hear your understanding or version of history (since it is clear many people have and believe their own versions). Personally, I struggle to see how Franco would sing such a masterpiece, which has ended up immortalizing his frérot, if Franco himself was the said villain in the song/story...

Lisanga means a gathering or meeting in Lingala and Banganga is a word for sorcerers/witches. Franco was therefore referring to himself and Tabu as the reigning music sorcerers. He was referring to sorcerers in a positive light.

The fact you are saying "These were THE two giants of Congolese music without doubt" tells me you don't have a clue what you are talking about. THE two giants were Joseph Kabasselé aka Le Grand Kalé and Franco. Rochereau played a minor role in Kalé's orchestra African Jazz, and not even in the 1950's, in the earliest incarnations, but after that. In 1980, two people were appointed Grand Maitre de la Musique Zairoise Moderne by the musicians union of Zaire. Rochereau was NOT one of them.

Kipa Kisangameni was not done in Lingala. It was in Franco's own native language. I agree with you juluka that Franco was bitter. You can hear him shouting, 'Mambo sabula messu, Mambo sabula messu mambo hii'.

Nkanda ya nini oo bandeko (Hasira ya nini oo mandugu)........ Bavon was a brother of Le grand maitre, Franco. He died in a road accident and Franco strongly suspected that he was bewitched. Franco composed, Lisanga ya banganga (mkutano ya wachawi) in his honour.

Lisanga ya Banganga was composed by Rochereau.

No way, TPOK Jazz has tried but Bavon Marie Marie himself was different, very different. His guitar and the crystal clarity sweetness of Negro Success are very different from this one. Those of you who know know what I mean!!! Of course this is not the original song - where is the original? When you get it please post it together with LIBANGA NA LIBUMU. Thank you though.
