Thanks for your introduction to the R1, very helpful! I decided to spring for one. One note about the VL70M and WX-5: there is a special cable (I think it’s called WX cable) that connects those two together instead of standard MIDI cable, and it has the additional advantage of powering the WX5 so you don’t have to worry about batteries. You can get one of these cables from Patchman Music.
I would have thought that Roland is quite cutting edge in what they roll out. I don't own any of the Aerophones so can't compare. But my experience with the R1 has been really good! Do note however that the instrument is physically really close to my Mac/iPad. Physical proximity does increase connection stability!
Yes, I'm glad you noticed. I decided to do that bit of footage using my iPhone rather than to route the sound from the iPad into my audio interface. Allowed me to capture the click noises - but it's relatively quiet compared to the WX-5!
Another *excellent* video, Calvin! I have no experience with BLE MIDI (yet) but my big question would be not so much the latency itself, but the *variability* in latency. The quote of "10-20 msec" seems to imply a range that might vary in a short period of time ... even maybe from note to note. I think this is called "MIDI jitter", and I think that is potentially even worse than latency itself. I have had a few situations where I had MIDI jitter. If leave the WIFI on my laptop-DAW turned on when I play, Internet traffic can cause a *variable* delay in responding to MIDI notes. Jitter is really annoying (to me). Latency in general is *highly* subjective and varies from person to person ... but I think jitter may be universally annoying. So ... I'm wondering it the BLE MIDI latency changes slowly (like over 2-10 minutes) or could possibly change short term - from note to note.
Thanks Clint. Again, I think the experts would be the best persons to answer your query. I'm learning something just reading your post. I think I'm not experiencing latency issues because the R1 is not a metre away my laptop/ipad so the signal is strong and I don't have to put up with the "real world" conditions you are describing in the room I was recording!
hi, I'm not sure. I've never done it before because I use the R1 purely as a midi controller. I don't use the onboard sounds at all. I know they have an app called Jamkoo which you can download for free here. www.robkoo.com/en/jamkoo-en You will need the Jamkoo app to update your firmware etc anyways so it's good to get it. You might be able to add your sounds from you computer to the R1 using the Jamkoo. I think best to reach out to the developers to ask them if you need a definitive answer.

omg this BLE Midi tons better than Aerophone Mini Bluetooth, now I know what feature I want my next EWI to have!

These are very useful for me as a wx5 owner. I’m learning a ton. Can you speak more about the Warble instrument. Thank you
I’ll try. I have some other R1 videos I want to make first.
Great, I can hear the clicking noise when you press the keys. Interesting. thanks

Are there different Fingering Chart like Saxophone Fingering.?
Are there different Fingering Charts like Saxophone Fingering, infuse them with my EWI 5000. ?
I think you can add additional fingerings - I’m trying to figure that out too!
