Distributed HVAC controls has been the default project layout in North America for at least 25 years, good to see the rest of the world catching on. Now on lighting controls prohects it is pretty much the opposite with centralized control just starting to see a change into distributed control with such protocols as KNX, EnOcean and DALI becoming more prevalent.

Its really interesting how differently things are done around the world. You would think after 100 years that everyone would have ended up with the same (best) delivery method.
      Thanks for sharing.

Hi Nazim, I do not 100% understand your question, sorry.
If you have a smoke detector then wire it directly to the AHU fan VSD, into the safety interlock input terminals (not to the BMS). Therefore, if smoke is detected in the AHU, then the VSD will shutdown and ignore all other inputs.
E.g., if the VSD is running in manual override from the VSD keypad, then to stop the AHU, you must properly shut down the VSD on the interlock input. If the smoke detector is wired to the BMS first, then it will not stop the VSD if it is running in manual override from the VSD keypad.

As an electrician who works in the uk, I mainly work on HVAC BEMS systems, I am thinking about getting into the commissioning side of things what would you recommend for me to start studying……..

      Hi Liam.
I am not sure there is a comprehensive book that you can simply read to study commissioning. I would suggest you do this. Look at the type of equipment that is on the sites you are working on. What type of variable speed drives do you have? Danfoss, ABB? Download the installation and commissioning manuals. Read up on how to set up a VSD. Play around with the menu on the key pad when you are next on site.
What brand and part numbers do you have for damper actuators and value actuators? Download the data sheets. Start to learn about the specific equipment you see on site.
What pressure transmitters, pressure switches, CO sensors, CO2 sensors.
Download the data sheets for the BMS field controllers. What power supplies do they need. How many inputs and outputs do they have.
To learn how to commission a BMS, you need to really work for a BMS company, learn how to use the software programming tools etc.
But, until you get to that point, properly learn as much as you can about the equipment. Cheers man.
