Hi, I am a daily cyclist living in Hong Kong. Just watched your video. I am quite disappointed that HK is not a cyclist friendly city especially in HK Island and Kowloon. I stay mainly in the New Territories, keeping away from heavy traffic and industrial areas. There are crazy professional drivers in HK. So even though I had been riding road bikes over 30 years, I would not dare riding in the heavy traffic like you. It is extremely dangerous and we are not welcome in many places. Anyway, quite good, you did something that I didn't do!
Jasper - you were so very close at the dogs and water treatment plant! Really need to know your way around. You would have had trouble on 23mm tyres going through the fish ponds beyond although it’s a very short section. Beyond that the roads are much better and it’s worth to cycle along to see some interesting stuff. Yes, traffic can be horrendous in parts so not that enjoyable. -Maybe next time!
You all prolly dont care at all but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Andy Rohan thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
very cool adventure, loved the music, good on you for hanging in there and not giving up, skills with videoing in traffic, and great video shots of all sorts - keep up the awesome videos ! :)
I stay with my girlfriend's family in Hong Kong NT for 1-3 months every year. When going for extended runs here, I've also run into the problem of roads that Google Maps routes me through either being closed off by tall metal fences or guarded by large and fairly aggressive dogs. It's quite stressful. Sticking to the cycling lanes is probably best, but man, they are always so short …
This is EPIC! I just finished making a video about parts of your path through the New Territories of Hong Kong, but it seems like you made it to a lot more sweet spots of Hong Kong. I think I'll have to try more of your paths out the next time I'm up there.
I think it's nice to see different parts of cities and not only the tourist attractive parts. By seeing everything you see way more culture and history.
Strangely I can only navigate the "around hong kong" route clockwise, if i ride it like you from the other direction I'll get lost near the border, lol
The way that they paint the bike on the cycle path is the same as here in the UK. Hong Kong was a British territory up until 1997 when we handed it back to the Chinese, which also explains why they drive on the left. It’s not actually a country either, officially it is part of China, although it is allowed to operate as a separate country.
Great video, keep it up. I rode around Hong Kong as part of some training for a race in New Zealand (had to as was on holiday) and its pretty scary in certain parts especially the built up areas. Better riding out of the city. Can you upload your Strava course of this ride, as will try and do the same thing when I am there later in the year.
Happy new year Jasper ! I bought 2 sets of YOELEO Carbon Wheels from China. I’ve ridden on set of 88 mm 25mm width These wheels in my opinion are fantastic. If possible, the next time your in China look up the company and see if it’s possible to ride a set. I’d love to hear your expertise. Thanks!
I'm from HK and I like to ride on the Castle Peak Road (the last section of the video from Sham Tseng to Tsuen Wan). I'd like to know the whole route of cycling this time.
I love the music. Give me sense of adventure with the beat. It looks so different than 38 years ago when I left the country. Thank you for taking me to all the different places through your video. It feels like I am exploring it with you Jasper. Btw, how's the Cycling Fanatic jersey coming along?
That's the problem with finding your way around China. All of the signs are written in Chinese. I really liked the soundtrack right after the McLaren sighting. It sounded like OK, we're getting back to business. Also, did you know that in China they just call it food. Not Chinese food.
Jasper, your one of my favorite you tubers and cyclists......but dude, your sock / shoe game need work☺️. Lol, keep up the great work, I love getting a notification your new video is up.
I would say that my favourite route is castle peak road at 15:55. I live near 12:12 and I always would like to ride to Tsuen wan via castle peak road. BTW..how come you ended up at 14:12 the water treatment place?? I dont even know where it is :( doesnt seem right if you ride from Yuen Long to Tsuen wan, you dont have to go through such place .
For some reason this is the first time UA-cam recommended your channel to me who loves flying (as a pax, not crew lol) and cycling. With Oneworld and non-RCC riders, but I hope to meet you some day!
try the loop again midnight. it will be easier. btw tai mo shan is a big climb yes, but imo riding up fei ngo shan via shatin pass road and riding to the big buddha from tung chung will be more fun for you, some good climbs there.
@@jasperverkuijl yeah just watched it. btw i just finished a 120km ride in lantau with all that climbs, ~70km with a slowly leaking tubeless tire due to punctures and cuts...basicly more than half of the way i was riding with ~40psi in my 25c tire, and got to stop and pump it up every half an hour...not so fun...
I´m sorry, I've laughed a lot, I know it´s not well, but I laughed a lot with you lost and with the dog (the dog=extra motivation). And the new chinese followers. Funny video Jasper.
Its true, u 'll find that it is difficult to have a long path to ride in HK. Drivers are rude and the roads are super busy. As a Hong Konger, it is frustrating
6.38 haas equals hare ( same pronunciation as hair ) , reminds me of the little joke; a magician can pull a rabbit out of a hat, I can't do that, but I can pull a hare out of my arse.-ouch. I enjoyed your video of Honkers very much Jasper.
Hi, I have two question 1) how You hold the camera stick on downhill? I was try but if You need put the brake its a little but risky :-) 2) what You do at work? I ask, because I have a lot friends from Europe in China who ridding on bicykle and I also ask them about that.

wow i always dreaming of doing this but alas perhaps you'll need a local guide to avoid those dangerous heavy traffic i thought.. anyway a big thumbs up before i finish the video, cheers!
It’s great but you cannot do it within a day. End up in Tsuen wan is fine. Riding in hongkong is danger and try to get ride of big trucks, taxi and minibus. The drivers are crazy. Seems you get lost in Yuen long, the north west part of new territories. It’s great but missing some part from Yuen long to Tuen mum.
@@jasperverkuijl yeah. the MTR didnt start yet sad that you didnt have much time, but heard you still made the tai mo shan. thats great kind remind, there always will be a huge loop on chinese lunar new year between Jan and Feb
Ok, you rent it, I see in the video. Do you have a adress, where to rent a roadbike there? I also wanna visit HK and wanna cycle there. Maybe you have the costs of renting, too? Thanks a lot.
James Turner he hates his Garmin 😂. And a Fenix doesn’t have proper routing with maps and turn notifications. For a pure cyclist a fenix is just not worth 350-700€
Really! Garmin Fenix 5, is a great watch to use especially when you don’t have your regular Garmin head unit. I’ve used when my Garmin head unit has died mid ride because I forgot to charge.
6:03 Those Hong Kong bike lane symbols look a lot like the ones we have in the UK. They look enough like a bike that it's obvious what they mean but, yeah, maybe the designer should have looked at an actual bike, rather than going from memory.
Great video again. Careful about saying that HK is on one side of the fence and China the other side, in the minds of China PRC, it's all China; to most in HK this definitely isn't the case. I'm in HK so you can guess what I think. Let's all cycle, no borders, no politics... that would be perfect!
The routing on the Wahoo is definitely not the greatest. I was visiting Belgium and using my Bolt for routing and it sent me through an old pathway that was fully rutted with stumps and mud. Hoping #wahoofitness can eventually fix this.
