Yes, that's right! I mention it in an earlier Operation Wolf video we did. Because the board is flat, mice loved the warmth of the board and built their nest on top...ruining MANY of the top boards with the "mouse pee"!
the interesting thing about the stage select ability is that it adds more openness to strategy when it comes to what actions you want (i.e. choosing the Ammo Dump to max out the magazines and rocket grenades for the Jungle section which does get difficult sometimes)
Company I worked for in the '80s lost a couple of Operation Wolfs. The upper cardboard and foil RF Shield which went on top of the CPU board also protected the CPU board from wayward quarters. Well, the cardboard shield, as flimsy as it was often got discarded. Logic boards, powers supplies and shiny metal objects are not a good mix.
Bobbie Bees Yes...that is right! PLUS...even if cardboard was there, the MICE made a nest on top of the warm board and eventually the pee pee would ruin the board!
+TNT Amusements Inc You gents would happen to know where to get the cardboard RF shield or a decent alternative would you? I'm rebuilding my Operation Wolf drawer right now. Thanks much.
When you guys put the free play button in the coin door lock, how do you guys keep the closed? I love the idea, but was just curious about keeping the door from swinging open, especially on a game that has vibration on it, like this one.
again with the 'works in a drawer' thing :P ... guess they were really onto something eh? Also never knew that changing the region would actually give you a level select... fun game and great video though!
Crazy story: We have a arcade on the Gold Coast at Ripley’s Believe it or not. As a kid I played this game and operation thunderbolt religiously. On one night after my parents gave us a handful of coins, we were interrupted by a long haired git which pushed us off this mid game and ripped open the coin draw and stole the money out of both machines. I shit myself as I was interviewed by police and the owner! Dad was pissed off when he found out.
you have to track down whats blowing it...I haven;t had one in shop in years...but the BEST way to figure it out is disconnect everything (board and gun) and see if it blows...if not, slowly plug in things...this way you can narrow down what is doing it. You may find a bare wire laying across something and board and gun are fin.
The second level had a guy holding a girl as a human shield on the machine I played a lot on but I never saw it on any UA-cam videos. Was it an option or was that censored out?
There was another option too. When you were playing the game and after finishing a level it would 'warning! Warning! The enemy has located you!' I recall him saying he could turn that off or leave it random.
Those UA-cam videos were recorded using MAME. Somehow MAME can emulate the jungle hostage girl part not even the random events like WARNING ! "The enemy has located you" .....stages
MAME emulation of Operation Wolf isn't accurate because the C-Chip (a protection chip) isn't dumped nor emulated. It's missing the "ALERT" stages that takes place between stages 3-4, as well as the end of Stage 2, where you have to save a hostage. Does your cabinet feature these stages? www.bryanmcphail.com/wp/?p=794 It's also featured on this video as well: ua-cam.com/video/cQqaw_Vf9wk/v-deo.html
I got the world record score on this on M.A.M.E of 16,316,700. If some one bought me this i would get the world record of this game easily, but i will go to Funspot soon and get it there.
This machine with all the work done to it and the 5 year service plan sold for $1299. Average unshopped condition in private sale would probably be $200 to $400.
I loved this game when it came out, I would love that cabinet.
we actually junked a few of these as they were made of flakeboard and they fell apart after getting wet on the bottom
This game is so cool. Actually one of my favorite uprights. Well besides double dragon.
I like the feature where you can choose where you want to start.
Great memories of my childhood

is there anyway you are still doing work on these or if i can buy one ? thankyou !!!

I love arcade ...I miss the arcades in Brazil..
Hell yeah ! My childhood (well.... still :) ) Thanks!
Usually the slightest bend on the edge of the coin door (with a pliers) in one spot is plenty to keep the door tight.
to Ed, Taito is well known for its good rail shooters.
love the outro
how much would this have sold for?
keep the quasar gag going i love but what i did not know about that is the fact that motorola owned quasar that is interesting

ChumpyChicken2 trust me in sydney there was crazy stories in the city back in the arcade days 🤭
Any chance of buying one of these or finding someone that does ?
So much better looking than the euro cab.
I wish the cabinet was real plywood though!
Todd I've just got one of these and the 0.5a fuse keeps blowing on the aux board, it's for the -12 line. Any ideas what's causing this? Thankyou.

TNT Amusements Inc appreciate your time and advice Todd, thankyou and keep the videos coming, they are always great to watch.
Thank you Darren!

TNT Amusements Inc well yeah I saw that in your video, but it was still in English! Can you dip it to level select and English??
