    Bawling. My parents divorced too. First when I was 5, then my stepdad and mom again when I was a young mom with a newborn of my own. Both times left me broken. I can imagine her pain going through this with her family. This song is really sad, but times like these make me happy to have the atonement. Christ doesn't only heal the pain from sin but also the pain from others choices. He can put our hears back together.

    Bless Madilyn. It doesn’t matter the age. Divorce is gut and soul wrenching. Love her honesty and pray for her and all others who suffer thru this. Having been thru two divorces I would not have wished on anyone - Turn to God. Grieve but hang in there. Healing does eventually come.

    There doesn't seem to be many songs that talk about the feelings associated with divorce. Many people appreciate feelings put to words "for us". Thank you🫶

  • @martysheeran
    @martysheeran 3 роки тому +7

    Beautifully sung, however the complications of a divorce are very difficult to understand. After having gone through a divorce, I counseled my kids to not judge their parents. In fact, we are told not to judge. I believe our limited insights can get us into difficulty. There is only one perfect judge. As you can see from the comments, many have judged the father in negative ways as a result of the words of the song. Yes it is sad that divorce and problems are part of this life, but when we judge, we make it worse. Healing is not found in judgement, but in forgiveness. Lets learn how to love as God loves us and forgive so we can grow and heal.

      Marty, Instead of worrying about how your kids are judging you, help them process the 💩 load experience you just put them through.. everyone reacts differently, whether that be through writing your feelings down or singing em.. It sounds like you felt the weight of this song and decided to get all “In fact we are told not judge blah blah” lol Did you find it enough?”
      P.s. I’m totally judging 🤪

    • @johnwilliamson7743
      @johnwilliamson7743 2 роки тому

      Actually we have to make judgments all time. The scriptures say “judge not unrighteously”
      We judge who becomes our friends - who we work for - who we date - who we holiday with - who babysits our kids etc etc
      Everyone has to judge.

    Going through a failed marriage oh and before that my parents not working out either…yeah anger tries to fight my sadness away, but then my heart is omg move on and self forgiveness and others! It’s what Jesus offers us! That’s why his loving 🥰 atonement is the most precious and yes rare gift 🎁 few are lucky 🍀 to find…remember the Holy Ghost 👻 will help you remember all things! Pray for help beyond what you know or are capable of comprehending. God will and is ready to help those who are willing are ready to ask for help! Let thy pride go and shatter that ego that only leaves tragedy 🎭 ehh balance of opposites…don’t let the master of manipulation aka devil 👿 let you “be” anything, what your worthy or capable of becoming aka being now! Why not now? Why procrastinate cuz that leads do laziness…wanna end up broken longer than you need to be? Trust me once you get the the hilltop of your suffering your like? What? Oh that was it? Ummm 🧐 🤔 okay so now what? Nice I feel clear, happier, wow I am smiling…is that you God? Your love is so powerful! 💗

    Personal experiences like this are always difficult to comment on without coming off as critical. My comment is that, for those with the gifts, people need to start writing about the realities of women in the church leaving marriages more and more. And no, it isn’t with cause. Women and men are equally capable of being tender, loving, and like our loving Father in Heaven...but they are also equally capable of destroying marriages just as this song suggests. Change the gender and the same is happening everyday. Church members will assume when a woman leaves, it is somehow his fault but that is just not true. Too many people, for far too long, have applied a stereotype of and greatness of women and the horrific nature of a flawed and weak man who can’t even decide on dinner, and only thinks in their pants.
    Women and men are also equally capable of being terrible to each other. And women are absolutely ending marriages, just like men have...for their own wants and desires.
    After 16 years, my ex-left proclaiming that she had not loved me for 15 years (the kids did the math in that one since it meant she had kids despite her feeling), and also moved out of state and I got custody. And she chose to relinquish visitation and provide me the freedom to move where needed to, in exchange for her not having to pay child support.
    Yes...LDS women and men, as all of humans, can truly be awful to each other. It is an issue of agency....not gender.

      I know a friend who had a similar experience to yours. He and his wife had been married for over 15 years and he would talk about what an angel she was and how amazing she was. She started going back to college and then met a man who was getting his degree. She decided to leave her husband and kids to get married to this man who turned out to only be using her to try to get citizenship in the US.
      My friend and his kids were absolutely heart broken. It was a complete surprise when she decided to leave them. She completely renounced her religion and her family. My friend is an amazing man, very kind and gentle, and I know he didn't deserve what his ex-wife did to him.
      Thank you for sharing and letting others know they're not alone. You're right, people from either or both sides of a marriage can destroy the relationship. As a woman, I actually felt like women get blamed more for divorces, but after reading your comment, I realize there's probably about equal shaming experienced by both genders.

    Such a gift. Thank you for sharing. I'm so sorry you had to be part of such a tragedy. It's really common though because it's such a temptation to hurt the one you know best because you know what hurts most.
    Hurting someone you love out of spite, in my opinion, is pure evil. Often. Too often, we feel hurt, and the other didn't mean to hurt. If you can learn to stop, think, and not respond in anger, you might save your marriage.
    I once heard someone say, "Would you rather be right, or would you rather be married." And then the marines say, 'Is this the hill you want to die on." which means, is this such an important argument that you're willing to lose everything over it?
    "Eternal" is more than a nice word. It's actually forever, too.

    I have no idea the context of your parents divorce, so this post isn't about your situation. But, I sure hope children take the time to ask their father why he chose divorce. Ask probing questions without assumption. Don't let him brush you aside (which men often do because they were reared to suffer silently and stoically). Demand a thorough explanation. You have no idea how few children take the time to understand why faithful LDS men choose to end their marriage, especially an LDS marriage.
    It's been 5+ years now since I filed for divorce and none of my three daughters have taken the time to find out why I chose to end my marriage to their mother, despite us having a great relationship. They don't ask because they figure they have it all figured out. But, in reality all they know is their perception. Their perception is a limited and biased point of view. I feel like they won't really understand their dad or the nature of their rearing until they some questions. And, they need to ask them, because I don't want to force this conversation on them. I am waiting for that day when they are ready to ask the right questions that signals to me that they are ready for the answers.
    By the way, my divorce was the best decision I've ever made reversing the worse decision I ever made, though what my children had to go through will be my greatest regret. I still don't know exactly what to do about that reality. Today I am married to a woman that brings me so much happiness and richness to my life. Instead of being my biggest problem she is my greatest joy.

    Oh my gosh! I was crying because that was so emotional and bless you and your mom! Life get hard but you eventually learn that you have to move on. You have gone so far and have been so good. You and your mother don’t deserve this.( i’m not hating on your dad because he is still a good person he just decided to leave) You are an amazing person! Keep up the good work! You are beautiful and you have an amazing talent!

    Thank you for showing and sharing your heart! I don't know think there is anything else out there, at least music wise that can speak to those in this situation! This will give so many people comfort, and possibly courage to speak out about hurting through a+ parents divorce ❤️... And with the voice included. It's just magical!.... And super brave to do it with someone sat right opposite you! 🙈
