  • 3,300 paramedics, nurses, doctors and hospital staff were assaulted in Queensland, Australia last year. Many of these assaults were perpetrated by people who had consumed excessive amounts of alcohol and drugs. The Queensland Ambulance Service has zero tolerance for any assaults - whether physical or verbal - on our staff. In this video, Ben - a paramedic from the Spring Hill Ambulance Station in Brisbane - speaks about a recent experience of being assaulted by a patient as well as what paramedics deal with when they are working in nightlife precincts.

But the QAS is quite happy to allow staff who's co-ordination and ability to work safely and effectively is compromised while they're on prescription drugs. And the QAS is quite happy to do things that cause their colleagues to injure themselves. Who's more drug affected-staff or patients?
