Calling it "January 6" specifically is an attempt at putting it at the level of things like the World Trade Center attacks (September 11), or the attack on Pearl Harbor (December 7)... both events which came to be referred to by the date of occurrence, literally creating their own "date that will live in infamy" and are also the two deadliest attacks against the U.S. in history. A protest at the capitol building should not be elevated to the level of these other two... so when you go along with calling it "January 6" you're really just amplifying the intended message of whichever political consultancy group decided on that name.
@@jared-yj6wp It's really not that significant. You perceive it as such because of the way it's treated, which is basically the opposite of how certain other protests prior to it were treated. They even occupied the Seattle central business district, patrolled it with AK-47s equipped with high-capacity drum magazines and literally attempted to secede from the United States. There were several murders, rapes and robberies associated with it. In another riot they attempted to storm a court house and burn it down. And did you even hear about any of that? I saw it last night. I too groaned at the Jan 6th mention, especially since they jumped from the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 to January 6th, 2021. That made it feel forced and very preachy. Performances were terrific. Gritty feel like a 1970s cop thriller. 7/10 as well. Recommended!
Do you not think an insurrection attempting to steal a democratic election to place a proto fascist as president is terrorism? They literally destroyed a place of extreme political relevance. They brought zip ties and nooses. Just because they by and large failed doesn't mean it wasn't an attempted coup. What would it take to wake you up to Trump's fascistic tendencies, I wonder

Thanks for balanced review I believe it was criminal story that could deserve a film with an honest portrayal of what actually took place

For real lmao. It was pretty straightforward. Nazis are bad. Jan 6th had its share of Nazis. Both of these things should not be debated. Sorry if it hurts your sensitive conservative values but it's true. You may not think you're "one of the bad ones" but you're on the wrong side of history. Trump's supporters are Nazi adjacent. Hate to break it to you, but if you can't realize it yourself you need to break out of your echo chamber.
@@petebondurant58 the statement in the film is that The Turner Diaries continues to influence white supremacists, including those who participated in Jan 6th. Which is true.
Bringing up Jan 6th in this movie is absurd because it takes a large leap of logic to get from White Christian Nationalist groups in the 80's and influence of the Turner Diaries to Jan 6th, there's BARELY a connection. The proper connection is to go to Ruby Ridge, then Waco, then the culmination being the Oklahoma City bombing. The movie does make this connection but to then go from the OKC bombing to January 6th is absurd and too on the nose. That's what Chris Gore and these comments are upset about.

One of my Kiwi friends goes mental every time they put woke in anything and he is a movie nut like me. He also supported Trump. I feel sorry for him but i understand his feeling. I loved Nicolas Hoult in RENFEILD with Nicolas Cage

@@DanielHartigan-fi9qf but why are you guys so soft a single sentence will make you butt hurt. The movie was great just leave after it ends and you won’t see it
This probably would have worked better as a documentary, It did nothing much for me; I didn't really care about the characters and I'm so over the whole "white supremacy" thing being a story in so many movies. Finding out that Jude's character and that of his partner (and Smollett's as well) were completely fictional also didn't help. Felt like there were some editing issue, because some parts felt clunky. And then, the filmmakers just couldn't help themselves at the end by trying to draw a connection between this theme and and what happened on J6. Lame, lame, lame. Not to mention completely incorrect.
Look, I like Chris and Alan, but I don't see the point in a movie review channel that recommends every mediocre indie film that comes along. I know they think they are trying to support indie filmmaking, but it only takes a few disappointments for average movie goers to give up on spending $15 to go to the theater. For good movies to thrive, bad movies need to fail.
It wasn’t a lecture. It was a sentence, and you’re acting like the filmmakers were equating the severity of the events depicted in the movie with Jan 6 or the Oklahoma City bombing, which wasn’t implied. What it was representing was connective tissue in all of these situations. The movie is directly speaking about a problem in this country, so why wouldn’t they link it to a modern day representation to make that clear?
@@shaomike I was thinking more about how The Left rioted, destroyed property, and fought with police in reaction to Trump's first inauguration. Seems to get repeatedly glossed over in all of the talk about recent political violence.

Michael Connelly's newest book keeps talking about the "insurrection" and it ruins it to the point I stopped listening to the audiobook.
