  • Südrad produces steel disc wheels for cars and various commercial vehicles. After the mechanical manufacturing processes, the wheels are placed on a circular conveyor, where they go through cathodic dip painting and the associated preparatory steps. Previously, the wheels were hung on the conveyor manually by the operators. This task was now to be automated through the use of a jointed-arm robot. The criteria for the robot were short cycle times of not more than twelve seconds, rapid acceleration and precise handling. Another requirement was flexibility, since the diameter and thickness of the steel disc wheels vary. The greatest challenge, however, was to synchronize the conveyor with the robots, which have to hand over the wheels with an accuracy of ± 2 mm.

I can tell that these robots are extremely overpowered for the job they doing. And i wonder how many years these have to be working to be able to earn in the sallery that the workes that were there before cost.

It looks like a Kuka KR30 which has a 16-30KG payload which with the two wheels and gripper assembly is not 'extremely overpowered', also the profit of the robot is not dictated by the salary of the workers that would do it's job but rather by the cost of the employees which include salary, insurances and risk. Combine that with the fact that these robots will work for ten years without issue when maintained properly and that they work 24/7 and you'd need some four or five employees to do it's job which will make the robot earn back itself within a year...
