  • Where should the 2024-25 San Jose Sharks see improvement, and where could there be regression? Start with why the Sharks' offense could see tangible improvement this season, thanks to the increase in offensive talent from Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and Tyler Toffoli. Then, after the Sharks' penalty kill finished near the bottom of the league, they could see a big rebound this season. With the additions of Barclay Goodrow, Alex Wennberg, and Ty Dellandrea, the Sharks penalty kill could see an improvement with Ryan Warsofsky's new scheme. Finally, the Sharks saw good goaltending despite the team in front of Kappo Kahkonen and Mackenzie Blackwood. Could there be a regression with Vitek Vanecek entering the fray?

    Goals wise looking at our expected lineup I can see 205-235 range this year. And that’s a solid improvement

    28:12 if the “worst case scenario” happens and our 2 goalies go down, the Sharks not having anyone viable behind them means we be *movin on up* that 2025 draft lottery board! Sooo, worst case scenario we end up with a top 3 pick instead of maybe a top 10 pick if the goalies stay healthy and play well. It’s a win-win right now.. they play well and stay healthy ->they develop, or if they go down ->our draft improves.
    I say one more ‘tank’ year!! Let’s fill the shark tank with all these delicious high draft picks!! We’re almost ready to start our climb up the standings… one more year. Let’s tank for the tank!!

      @@LockedOnSharksyea even if we exceed expectations we’re still bottom 5. But that still
      Means we made solid improvement from
      One of the worst teams in modern era and I’m happy with that.

    I think they’ll be improved but they are unlikely to be competitive again until the young players are more seasoned and the add more blue line talent and figure out the goal tending

    We will be better no way to be worse. Especially if the goalkeeping can keep up

    Team won't be good. But there is zero chance they are worse. -150 goal differential is a number you have to literally try to make worse. I predict 25 wins, -80 GD.

    Sharks’ D is a bit of a dumpster fire still. The O improved a bit, but we’ll see how they perform. I’ll be watching closely this season to watch these kids play (expecting that they play all season), but I’m not expecting for more than 20-30W’s and am hoping for a top 5 pick next offseason to add to this young core before they really begin taking their major steps forward.

      Walman will impress you! He was used wrong last year and took on all the hard assignments so he should have more offensive opportunity, Mukhamadulin will be learning but could be an improvement and I fully expect Thrun and Embersom to take another step this year so D will be bad… but better.
      I expect nothing from Rutta, Benning, or Vlasic so any positive from they group would be nice.
      As for the puck we need another top 5 and Logan Hensler RD! He is a Right hand clone of Dickenson and could give us a solid dependable top line! They won’t have Bouchard or Major offense but will be solid and much better than those guys defensively.

      While the D core has a ways to go, the defensive responsibility of the forward group plays a role in overall team defense. I think they have grown quite a bit in that department. No Hoffman or Labanc. Addition by subtraction.

    • @robertevans00
      @robertevans00 Місяць тому +1

      @@progshark swapping Goodrow and Wennberg for Hoffman and Labanc is a huge defensive upgrade defensively while also providing an upgrade offensively.
      Getting Couture back and a healthy Sturm is another solid boost!
      Sharks will be better but this is a HUGE hole to dig out of.
      I do think Grier intentionally avoided massive upgrades to the D and Goalies because we don’t want to see massive unsustainable improvement. Step by step we will get better.
      First it was fixing the prospect pool, then the cap situation, now the forward group and going forward I expect the Goaltending and D will be the focus.

    When are the Sharks going to rid themselves of Tim Burke? This man has been the architect of drafting size over talent for the Sharks for the past 30 years. As a result, the Sharks are one of 10 teams to never win a Cup, and are the third oldest of those Cupless franchises. Time to stop doubling down on his drafting philosophy.

    • @ThingsWorseThanDeath
      @ThingsWorseThanDeath Місяць тому +5

      I don’t know enough about Tim Burke to comment on him. But I do agree with you 100% that it’s annoying how much more valued size is over other attributes for draft picks. If you look up the heights of the best players in the NHL, the large majority of them are 5’10” to 6’1,” NOT 6’4” and up -> Celebrini 6’0”, Bedard 5’10”, McDavid 6’1”, MacKinnon 6’0”, Kucherov 6’0”, Pastrnak 6’1”, Crosby 5’11”, Marner 6’0”, Stamkos 6’0”, Jack Hughes 5’11”, and on and on. It’s actually guys like Rantanen (6’4”), Draisaitl (6’2”), and Auston Matthews (6’3”) who are the anomalies that are highly talented AND over 6’2” ++.
      Seriously, I wish we would stop over-valuing size, and just draft talent. Theo Fleury was hella good. Mike Rathje was a train wreck.
      Love your comment, I agree 100%.

    • @ThingsWorseThanDeath
      @ThingsWorseThanDeath Місяць тому +5

      Oh and by the way… size is a major reason why we drafted Dickinson over Buium this year at 11 overall. Buium is 6’0”, Dickinson is 6’3”. I like Dickinson a lot, and I know we do need to add some size because our young core of players are currently on the smaller side… but we’ll see in time who turns out to be the better pick there .. 6’3” Dickinson at 11 overall, or 6’0” Buium at 12 overall.

    • @Jmango9988
      @Jmango9988 Місяць тому

      Cake Makar is 5’11”, no one complains about his size, and Buium had comparable college stats to Makar. I think we may very well regret passing on Buium.@@ThingsWorseThanDeath

    • @progshark
      @progshark Місяць тому +2

      Not just size. Dickinson was easily the safer pick. A more consistently top10 rated defense throughout the year leading up to the draft. Buium had a lot of hype coming out of the Frozen Four that I think over inflated his pundit ratings over what team scouts actually valued. He's going to be good, but his bust potential is also a bit higher than Dickinson.
