The six paths are some of my favorite character designs in all of Naruto. Something about them looks really cult-y, edgy, and definitely scary. They really fit the Akatsuki theme as the leader of the group.
I see it as these people were all people who were searching for peace, like Nagato. They’re out in the shinobi world trying to make a huge impact & thus they end up becoming more famous than a typical shinobi. That’s how Jiraiya ran across them on his journey, as he had the same goal, and it makes more sense that Nagato/Pain would also run in to the people who were searching for peace as well. At least it makes more sense from a writing perspective than pure luck that the same people Jiraiya met were Pain.

It definitely played mind games on Jiraiya for a time but it's crazy that even Pain himself admitted that Jiraiya could have beaten them had he known there were six of them instead of three. Jiraiya was already a beast and could have wiped out Akatsuki. Exception of three of them.
He could have beaten pain if he had reinforcement. Thing is nagato only sent two pain there thinking it's enough since it's only jiraiya alone to keep pains abilities a secret. Even jiraiya had help or some say him and tsunade. I'm sure pain would up the ante. The presence of two legendary sannin alone would make nagato send all six of them. Even Naruto who mastered sage mode needed kurama's help to defeat the final pain. Naruto can defeat pain alone if he's able to use the toads extra abilities and in constant sage mode. But Naruto was relying only in his clones for sage mode. He was running on limited time to defeat all six unlike jiraiya who had two toads gathering sage mode.

Itachi could have been the next Madara if he had chosen to not let Sasuke live and take Sasuke's eyes during their fight.
I don't know why, Ajisai's story makes me sad. After being a chunin she was assigned an S ranked mission by Konan and died in that very first mission and I guess she was around 12 the time she died.
I would say the Human path has the most brutal ability... You can yank someone's soul out of them, but the downside is you have to get close to that person in combat... The Deva path would be my favorite... Boring choice, I know, but what can I do 😄
Given how they all have chakra receivers and Rinnengan eyes, I actually assumed each of the Animal Path's creatures were actually dead and simply being reanimated by Pain.

You say high difficulty, but he beat Konan in his normal form before fighting Pain remember, in like 20 seconds, in his normal form. Itachi or a fused Kisame vs Jiraiya would be interesting
I think Kisame would give Jiraiya trouble even in Sage Mode. Itachi (without illness) and Obito would clap Jiraiya, not even debatable. Pain is 50/50 but if it was Nagato like when he was reanimated then he would obviously clap Jiraiya too. Everyone else Jiraiya would beat.
The Deva Path is the goat, there's no debating that. Frankly, all the other paths are there to support the Deva Path. But damn dude, the Asura path launching ICBMs while battling ninjas who fight with throwing knives and swords is insane. Absolutely ridiculous.
My favorite six packs of pain was the animal path because I believe that pain had a secret summoning that turn to heaven rain village to what it is now

His teacher gave him purpose, his master gave him power and strength, Madara, he saw to reaching both their goals. But his cus made him soft with some speech about preach and he gave up finding comfort that he'd finally found his blood fam...but yea
