    Thank you Bryce for this video. In one of our projects we reduced power consumption for a super high rise mainly by creating trends for the chiller compressors output and because of the graphic it became clear that the culprit was facility management manually turning OFF and ON all the AHUs at the same time; owner instructions to reduce power. This caused spike and dip response by chillers. We staggered/ separated the AHUs ON/OFF cycles and the chiller output became more stable. Without trending I would not have been able to do it.

    Many thanks for you time and effort.
    In my experience I will say that the issue is who is our client. In the construction phase, my client is the constructor who just want it cheap so if we try to make energy efficient BMS we will work harder without recognition.
    After in the maintenance phase many times we dont have access to the property so it is difficult to get recognition if we implement energy efficient strategies but we dont create a baseline to meassure the results, etc.
    So for me the issue is to get access to the properties, work together with energy efficiency engineers and then implement these really valuable strategies. If we dont do it in this order, although we may try our best, our effort will not be appreciatted or meassured.

      Why do you not have access to site? In Australia, most commercial offices in larger cities have BMS maintenance contracts.
      Where do you live?
      Do you not perform BMS maintenance?

    Mixed air plenum pressure sensor makes a lot of sense when controlling return fans and dampers.

    Great job, typically BMS engineers design off of mechanical drawings, and only show the points that are spec. It does take a good service technician to come in look at the system make sense of all of the systems working together, see, feel how the operators actually operate the building. And then exactly what you said tune the system. But most people just check the log book and make sure vavs are communicating. If the sales or service manager will not have the relationship with the customer, the service tech is the one there on site. Usually takes a poor soul to get bored enough to want to teach themselves and learn on an active system. Someone needs to take the responsibility to grab the site by its balls.

      Unfortunately the conundrum of service contracts is that nobody is game to pitch what the site actually needs, vigorous ball grabbing. Instead we end up with 1,2 or 5 years of non productive checklist service tasks instead of trusting a technician/engineer to maintain and improve a site holistically.

      And it's just the start. If we tried harder we would find all sorts of ways to improve the visualisation and experience of the user.

    Thank you Bryce. I really appreciate the time, effort and especially the thought that goes into your videos. I know I sometimes have similar thoughts about how to improve or change things and then the phone rings and it all goes away.
    I like your approach to the industry and your willingness to share. I am with you on these graphics videos. Just completed one where it was configured for the testing agencies and engineer. Not built for optimization or the end user in mind at all. I will be reviewing things with your latest in mind.

      You are miles ahead of most people with your chiller graphic. You just need a couple more things.
      And, make sure the service techs follow on with what you have provided, so that they understand how to tune the system. Keep chipping away at it 👍

    Great stuff Bryce. Cannot manage what you don't measure... and history teaches! Maybe a seasonal Degree Day comparison with your fan/cooling energy log could assist as a tweak viewer.

    Bryce,
    When using the Set Point Reset strategy, why are we flagging based on the damper position? A VAV can be at max cooling with the damper 60% open, depending on the Static Pressure in the duct. Considering all that, shouldn’t we flag based on % Max CFM ?
