75KG | 1990 | World Weightlifting Championships (Budapest, Hungary)

5th session of World Weightlifting Championships 1990 (Budapest, Hungary).
In the 75kg's category... soviet "freshman" (at international competition) wins the gold as a big surprise.
Predistions before competition: "Romanian Andrei Socaci will be the winner today." - Vasily Alexeev (URS head coach)
In the snatch: Kassapu wins, Socaci makes a mistake with his last 160kg attempt. But the gap is only 2,5kg and Socaci, Yordanov and Chol-ho also made 155. Then in the c&j north korean Chon Chol-ho bombed out at 195kg, Jordanov made only 187,5 and Socaci also made only his first attempt with 190kg. Fjodor jerked 202,5kg easily and won also the snatch, the c&j and of course, the overall gold medal.
After competition interviews:
Gold medalist - Fjodor Kassapu (URS, 27 yo.):
"I was a bit uncertain in the snatch, but in the clean and jerk I was ready for even 210kg! After I knowed that I won, I went for 202,5kg just to show tha I can easily jerk it. I'm the soviet champ in the last 3 years, but this time was the first time when I was in our team of world championship (after when Alexeev became the new head coach). I think, I can reach and I can beat Varbanov's world record in the future. "
Silver medalist - Andrei Socaci (ROM, 24 yo.):
"I was so nervous before the start, I had to smoke a cigarette before I started to warm up. Sadly, this nervousness had consequence in the snatch."
Bronze medalist - Yordan Yordanov (BUL, 20 yo.):
"This competition in Budapest was my first debut at a big international competition. I'm really satisfied with my performance. I have only one goal in my life at now; Olympics in Barcelona."
