575-M6, SRA-198 & 636L Microphone Tests!

- Here in this video I use a vintage Astatic 575-M6 amplified microphone with tone control, Ranger SRA-198 & Astatic 636L Flag Edition noise cancelling microphones. The main test is the SRA-198 & 636L going head to head. I sneek in the 575-M6, still making minor level tweaks. Travel this stretch of road at 50 mph with both windows down. The Ranger SRA-198 is making a name for itself for its noise cancelling properties. Was surprised how must background noise the 636L brough in so that tells me the mic gain needs to be lowered. As far as the 575-M6 the microphone gain needs to be lowered too. Anyways, this is how it gets done, enjoy Bulldog of Bulldog Radio Communications - / bulldog.unit777
I really have to applaud your efforts for testing your audio, RENO. I am guilty of recording my mics & radios too. A recording is the only way to see what your radio, your voice , mic and signal are doing. You are constantly striving for QUALITY !
And thanks for your work , posts and general education for radio enthusiasts. If they have access to a computer and a willingness to learn , they can gain much from your information and make very informed purchases! GOOD JOB BD triple 7!
I think the Ranger was better at eliminating the background noise but the tonal quality of the Astatic was better. Very informative video. Crazy what an Astatic 575 can go for these days. Thanks!
Being loud is not everything! The balance of modulation and background noise can be a timely task when making the adjustments. The Ranger SRA-198 seems to be a plug'n - play with great noise cancelling abilities! Very good tone when compared to the Astatic 575-M6. Thanks for watching, Bulldog!
Welcome,
I have a question for you, how do you think the microphone should enhance the treble and lower the bass? Should it have a balanced range? Or should it enhance the midrange? Or maybe a wide band - wider than 300-3000 Khz ?. Health for you.
The Ranger microphone sure sounds better than both the Astatic's in both clarity and background.Great video's Rino.
The 575 is louder than the other two and the tone is adjustable. In this comparison the SRA198 was the cleanest and just as loud as the 636. I’m sure that if you adjust 575 while you may not be able to bring down the noise level you will be able to through a no nonsense microphone check and a brand new Duracell work the tone and volume to sound far superior than both of the other microphones
I was a little critical of you in your video of the 959 w/ the newly converted 2290 RF section, but truth is, you are creating some informative videos. Good luck to you.
The Cobra 2000 GTL is in the video and the one I am using in the mobile is a Galaxy DX 959HP-2290 "1 pill" modified CB Radio.
Im a astatic636l fan myself never knew about the ranger198.someone told me about it today so i ordered one and got one on the way.The 198 stands out in this video. It seems to hold back more background noise and it sounds a little more clarified in the audio.I think i may order 1 more 198.
SRA 198 sound good
THe lip gaurd is placed for proper spacing between the mic & your upper lip. Most Noise cancelling mics use those so you'll know to put your lip right there for max modulation . If you move the mic very far away the element won't pick up your signal.
To my Ear - The Ranger SRA-198 had the Best Noise Cancelling - The 636L had the most volume and sharpness - All 3 were very similar / close
Thanks M28443 for stepping in with the information, Bulldog 777.
Question for Triple 7. What are you driving in this test, a 4 wheeler, or a big truck? Just curious as a big truck can be a lot louder than a 4 wheeler. And a great job on the testing too!
I'm a huge 575-M6 fan but I have to admit the SRA-198 sounds pretty good in this recording.
I had my 400 watts cranked and ranger SRA-198 canceled it out what an amazing mic. The Radio is a Cobra 2000 GTL I believe.
198 is canceling the best, but 575 has the best sound clarity.
Thank you for the kind words M28443. Take care, Reno "Bulldog 777"
You want clarity and volume with the windows down? Road king 56 every time.
Could maybe have just been that specific mic but the difference was amazing
Man Bark Alert!, Hair caught in Lip Guard!.LOL
Sounds a little over modulated. I run my mic gain at about 2 o'clock @1200 watts general lee
What kind of a radio is this and I would like one just like it ... Dick
