Stranger things could have been an amazing anthology series. Unfortunately, it became a fantastic first season with lackluster sequels.

That’s what it was originally supposed to be apparently then they decided to keep the season 1 cast because “they had so much fun with them”

Hopper's reduction into another "angry stupid dad who doesn't know how to be nice to people" was the final straw for me with Stranger Things. His growth with Ellie through season 2 was the entire reason I wanted to know what happened in season 3, yet instead their father/daughter relationship regresses to the point that it's even worse than it was at the start of season 2.

I'm so glad you pointed out the language thing. It really bothered me that Robin somehow was able to decode an entire Russian message in the span of an afternoon while only knowing English and three Romance languages, as though somehow that could help you learn Russian. That was just one of the first examples of a major oversights in season 3. It's like no one really cared how the story progressed because people were too nostalgic for 80s stuff.

Season 3 was a Disney Channel-esque kids show. I won't continue the series. What a waste!

You didn't really say much about the character of Mike, who seems to grow less central and less likable as time goes by. It's almost like they're trying to shit on the whole notion of having a _main_ kid in the group - like Sean Astin in The Goonies, or Ethan Hawke in Explorers or that one kid in The Monster Squad - by shoving their former main kid as far into the background as possible. And what little time he does have dedicated to him is all about what an apparent jerk he now is.
I mean, the season treats it like he did Eleven wrong by doing the thing that Hopper was forcing him to do, but it should be clear to the audience that that's not really the case. He _is_ guilty of the character sin of being an obnoxious little shit for a scene or two, but he really didn't do a single thing that he should have to apologize to Eleven for. I suppose it was his dumb call to lie about the situation (and also his dumb idea to tell Eleven that friends never lie to each other, way back when), but we don't really know. We never saw specifically what Hopper told him that he could or couldn't tell her about the threat that he was now under to spend time away from her. Then of course Hopper is "dead" before he crosses paths with her again, so he never gets called out for his douche-baggery. It's all on Mike, apparently.
But hey, Mike is kind of a floppy-haired little shit anyway, so he should be made to apologize for _something,_ right? Anything! Only... would he be that way if they didn't write him that way? Are they writing him that way as part of the design, or because they secretly hate the kid who plays him, or because they neither know nor care what to do with the character now that Will is found and safe and Elle "don't need no man!"?

    • @CultureVultureMedia1
      @CultureVultureMedia1  4 роки тому +1

Yeah, you're probably right about that last part. It's too bad that they didn't take the opportunity to really make a dilemma out of '"friends don't lie", as what we're left with is such a flat situation where Mike, as you say, comes across as a dumbass for no compelling reason. If only they would have made it more complicated than "Hooper made me do it"...

Another inconsistency is Steve's character. Was so wholesome seeing how he had grown in season 2 but why does that mean he's a comical idiot now? Suddenly he doesn't know how to flirt with girls anymore when I thought the whole point was he could have stayed 'king of the school' but gave that up consciously to spend more time with people who actually matter to him, not because he's socially inept. The stuff with Hopper annoyed me more though.

Speaking of the singing. 2 way radio like that aren't phones. you can only talk 1 at a time. So with both Suzie and Dusty keyed up at the same time, means no one not even each other can hear them.

The only thing that I disagree with is Dustin being auto tuned. The actor can sing fairly well, it's his counterpart that didn't double well with him. But everything else is spot on. ESPECIALLY El's powers disappearing for fucking nothing.

I agree with all of this. There were a few things I liked about this season tho. While the misogyny and Trump villain at the paper was overdone, I liked the fight between Nancy and Jonathan over their different backgrounds. It was a conversation the couple would have really had, because they way they view their job and success would be different. Nancy would want to feel accomplishment, respect, ambition. Jonathan has a mom and a little brother to help support, no money for college, etc. it was a more dramatic subplot than it needed to be though.
I thought Eleven could see those specific memories because Billy was kind of hiding in them. Like when his body was taken over, his consciousness hid somewhere in a safe, happy place in the memory of his mom. It doesn’t explain it perfectly, but I wasn’t upset by it

When you have some random kids discover, infiltrate, and escape a freaking Russian underground SECRET BASE! I just cannot turn my brain off that much without being brain-dead in the process... If I watch season 4 it'll be free online. Not gonna let Netflix pay them for having me watching the show on their platform.

Season 1, AMAZING! Season 2, i enjoyed it defenitly not same level of awesomeness as 1. Season 3…I didn’t hate it but you can tell these writers have no idea where to really go with the show, which is weird because they came up with it in the first place? Honestly…i have no idea what a good direction would even be now. With the events that have happened and rules put in place the only directions they can really go are bigger like instead of the threat being just in hawkins maybe its state or country or worldwide but that’s extremely unlikely to pull off and remain a grounded/realistic/not cheesy approach. Also with social politics only worse i just dont see us getting anything satisfying from this show.

Yeah, scaling is a b*tch sometimes. Thing is, if you only plan for one season, you can only make one season.
ST is another case of a well planned first season getting extended beyond its capabillities. Audiences really should know better by now than to trust a one-season-wonder that ends.
Same with Dexter, Westworld, Heroes, Suits and many many more...

You have an issue with Hopper not wanting his surrogate daughter not making out? Of course, you did take a political jab at the end of part 1, so I guess I should have expected it. Wish you wouldn't have, but at this point I'm not watching anything else from you.

He took her in to protect her not adopt her he knows mike is a good kid and loves her and regardless of that him acting like a child over something so minimal in the grand scheme of things make no sense for his character it was clearly played up for comedic effect what you say makes sense frim a parents perspective not from a grizzled detective protecting a girl from the government hunting her down

    • @c.w.8200

@@ozymandias7969 It doesn't even make sense from a parents' perspective, why are Americans unable to understand that teenagers making out is a normal part of their development? It's absolutely ridiculous, my parents said use a condom and that was the extent of how much they cared, which is the norm in Europe. We also have very few teenage pregnancies for some reason...condoms I guess.
