      @@26realmcl I played high level tennis and used the same racket (with 2 backups) for 10 Years! It’s about skill, and not equipment! Spending $300 bucks every year (or 6 months depending on your usage and frequency of play) is ridiculous…and I know a component to that is being forced to buy a new paddle because the face wears, is a huge problem that needs to be fixed to not have to buy a complete new paddle once the face wears down.

      A paddle face wearing out in 2 months is unacceptable, but if a paddle lasts a year I'm cool with that. It's about the same cost as restrimging rackets, maybe cheaper.

      I'm not sure how much the lab projects paddles cost to manufacture but I know for sure Selkirk pays $20 each for the Halo. Obviously shipping, advertising, sponsorship etc adds a lot but how is an item that costs $20 to produce costs $140+ retail?

    Played this one tonight. I really like it. Currently using the DBD. You really feel connected to the ball with the 006. The top spin is crazy good. It didn't feel as heavy as advertised, very well balanced and the swing weight felt more similar to the Scorpeus 14mm.- very light.

    Fantastic review, Chris. Does the surface look the same under a microscope as other raw (peel-ply) paddles? I'm very curious about their marketing of 12K fiber. Usually 3K/12K, etc. refers to the tow size for woven carbon fiber cloth, which we now know is not the same as peel-ply embossed carbon fiber. I'm also curious which factory they're finishing the paddles at here in the USA, since every other raw carbon fiber paddle that I know of is finished in China. Regardless, I'm happy to hear that Selkirk is pushing innovation for raw carbon fiber surfaces

    • @PickleballStudio
      @PickleballStudio  Рік тому +3

      Under the microscope it appeared to be roughly the same size as the finer weaves (Maybe slightly larger?)
      I believe the top layer (of the layers of carbon) is 12k, then finished with the peel ply.

    Hi. I am a Selkirk advocate, but at the same time try a lot of paddles. It would be great for you to discuss how long the surface stays effective for spin. I found on the 003 for me it's about two months. Also, note that on Selkirk's warranty, it's for manufacturing defects only. When I wanted to replace my 003 because of loss of spin, it was extremely difficult because quote it wasn't a manufacturing defect. Keep the good info coming

    Thanks for the excellent review and for letting me know your brother who used the Electrum E found a replacement paddle. I have switched to a paddle that is radically different from anything you have tested: The Armour Goliath. Engage used to produce the Big Dog, which was similar. Both these paddles are 16 inches long, 8 inches wide and sport a 3 inch handle. Hence, each has a very large hitting area. Both these paddles are made for players who keep one finger on the paddle face. You should test the Goliath since few people even know it exists. It is the ultimate paddle for dealing with bangers and playing defence.

    The Selkirk Labs Project 006 paddle review really highlights the importance of balance in pickleball equipment. It's not just about power or control, but finding the right mix of both. The review also emphasizes the value of personal preference and playstyle in choosing the right paddle. It's a reminder that in pickleball, as in life, one size doesn't fit all. Let's explore more about this fascinating sport together!

    Just to give you guys perspective … these paddles sell per unit on alibaba for like 10-20$ a unit based on supplier. These companies charging 333 per unit is crazy. Also, if the Perseus 3 sold for 275$ and I’ve tried it and can confirm it’s the best paddle I’ve ever played with then how does this paddle warrant 333$ ??? I doubt it’s better or even if it is that much better than the Perseus 3

    Great review. Hopefully they'll make a commercial version that's more accessible because it sounds like they have a winner here. I use an Electrum E 16mm as my 'go to' for doubles. (Sometimes i use the Solaire but its a bit too powerful unless i really dial my game in, though i like its thermo feel and pop much better than the E.) In upgrading to a gen 2 i got the DBD but I was like, 'since I'm moving away from the E maybe i'll try out lead tape.' I taped the same way Collin Johns does- a six inch strip starting from the throat (2 grams, 1/2 inch but in his insta vid he layers two 1 gram strips.) The paddle plays SO much better now- its almost like a half-thermo feeling; very solid, more power but not uncontrollable but with basically the same control. dinks and drops are amazing. The extra weight felt a bit odd (though nothing as bad as a hyperion) but its worth it. Like gen 1 elongated, the ball still totally dies off of the top but the tape extends the sweet spot. If anyone has never used lead tape and is changing paddles (with the intent to keep it) I would HIGHLY recommend sticking some tape on it rather than letting it sit in the closet.

    The paddle isn’t “Made” in the USA. Selkirk specifically said it’s assembled in USA. Which could range from them placing a grip on a otherwise finished paddle to them ordering pieces from over seas and having it put together here. But Made in USA is just a marketing ploy.

    Thanks for the review! I have an enlongated Ronbus Pulsar R1 (5.5" handle) and the swing weight is shown on their site as 114, which would make it the lowest swing weight of the elongated paddles, assuming that info is accurate. Did you measure the Ronbus swing weight to be higher? If it is in fact 114, it seems for $150 after code, that's a much better deal than this Selkirk.

    I currently play with the Paddletek bantam EX- L pro and love the weight of 8.7 ounces. the paddle has plenty of pop for me, and I love hand battles with it. the bad thing about it is i have to really concentrate when dinking or i will pop up the ball (more than i think i should). I wonder how much easier control the 005 would give me than my current paddle. the weight of the 006 is more inline with what i am looking for however, so i might go that route instead. not sure i trust the spec sheet on Selkirk's website showing the 005 conveniently having the lowest score and the lowest price.

      Not to mention when you buy a labs paddle, the $77 gift code can only be used on the Labs site, you can’t use it at the regular Selkirk site (way lame) so you’re stuck using it on a second labs paddle or using it to buy from the Labs extremely limited accessories. Because the 006 is ugly lol. The Hyperion is a similar shape but not the same. The head is not as rounded and neither is the throat.

    how does the feel compared to the original hyperion? I have the 003 and that is the one thing I don’t love about it - just not as plush.

    • @zachcarmichael699
      @zachcarmichael699 Рік тому +1

      I'd say a little stiffer given that it's still a thermoformed paddle. If you're just wanting an upgraded version of a Hyperion, go with the Vatic Prism Flash. Easy recommendation.

    • @michaelhopwood1179
      @michaelhopwood1179 Рік тому

      thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately the only thing I liked about the hyperion was the feel/sweet spot. Otherwise it was way too head heavy for me, the paddles kept breaking, and the spin wore off.

      @@PickleballWill hey Will, do you play with the 006? Last time you recommended me to try the 6.0 BD, I love it, both the power and spin are great from the BD. I just got my 006 today. I found that the 006 is relatively “hollow” and light compares to the BD. Even though the static weight is already 0.5 oz higher than the BD, the 006 still feel light. I need to put more weight near the top. What do you think, how do you set up your 006?

    • @PickleballWill
      @PickleballWill Рік тому

      @@EdisonShiFilm I play with it stock for the most part. I can see it feeling light because of its relatively low swing weight. If I did put weight down n it I would put it at the top

      @EdisonShiFilm Рік тому

      @@PickleballWill ah I see. Not your #1 tournament paddle right now?
      I have been experimenting lead tape with mine. I am trying 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock, and 4 to 5 mirrored on both sides. Skipping 3 o’clock to 4 o’clock. The swing weight is so light, and the power is lacking. I now weigh mine to 9 oz static, that is 0.7 oz higher than what I normally play with.
      Happy and safe 4th!
