The wet rag is great to use! What a wonderful and inspiring video. I found a chalkboard recently I may purchase. I always take a photo too.

Oh good, I was just told the wet rag was okay from another viewer as well. I think I just had it in my mind that it wasn't good, but with chalk pastels, you just have to. You'll really enjoy a chalkboard :)

My 16-year-old son had a friend over visiting. I had them, my 15-year-old daughter, and my husband all watch this video on the big screen t.v. :) They all loved it. Joe (the friend) had his mouth hanging open the whole time and was completely engrossed. I've homeschool videoed my husband to death, so I'm really selective on what I share with him, and he loved it too. The boys are public schooled. I asked them, "Wouldn't that be awesome if you walked into your classroom and found out your teacher had put all that time and effort into creating something like that for you kids?" They thought it would be amazing for someone to do that for them. Your kids are blessed.
On another note, I went out and started saving some links to A Child's Dream materials onto my Pinterest "Curriculum: Waldorf" board. I'm getting ready to do the same with some of your videos and the Nature (store) you've mentioned in your videos. I'm falling more and more in love with aspects of the Waldorf style of teaching through watching your videos, even though I know you make adaptions. That's how I'd do it too. We are similar in our mindset, I think. However, you're actually doing a lot more Waldorf inspired activities than I get scheduled to do. My aim is to do more hands on activities. My daughter with ADHD really responds to hands on activities best. Take care.

Oh my!! That's pretty awesome the kids and the hubby enjoyed this. I never thought about how I would have felt if I walked into my high school classroom to see a chalk drawing, but I'm pretty sure I would have thought it was awesome. I don't think my kids think it's awesome, though!! This is all they know. They would be like, "what? you don't have a huge chalkboard in your school room with drawings on it?" Haha :) Just today my 18 year old was in the school room and my kids and I asked him if he remembers the first time I drew this for him, and he said no. Ah well, I remember it. A Child's Dream will be so happy to hear that. Did you know she has a channel as well? Oh and Nature-Watch, that's another favorite of mine as of 4 months ago.

No. I didn't know she (A Child's Dream) has a channel. I'll have to check it out, asap. Also, thanks for the "Nature-Watch" name reminder. I was going to have to go find it from your other videos.

Have you ever thought about doing your illustrations on an art roll pinned to the chalkbard? Then after your done with a unit you could roll it up and keep it or take it to a teacher supply store and have it laminated. Or maybe you can make a mini version on canvas to have long after you erase your board. Your drawings are so beautiful! ! You take so much care with it. It's perfectly ok to wash a chalkboard by the way. When I was in elementary school I helped my teachers wash the board once a month or so with warm soapy water.

I thought about it, and I think it's a great idea!!! Thank you! My initial hesitation, when I read this, was how can it be done. But I spent a little time thinking about it and searching online and instead of paper, I thought canvas. I found some black canvas in the right size (and sold by the yard, woohoo), except it's quite pricey. But really, to be able to keep them would be such a personal treasure. I'm glad at least I have the video and photos now because my original pics of the work I did 7 years ago weren't the best quality. So glad to hear that I'm not damaging the board with water. For some reason, I felt like it was a no-no, but really the deep black of a freshly cleaned chalkboard really makes the colors pop!! Thanks Erin!!

Hi Salina! Thank you :) We bought this years ago online, but I can't find the original vendor. The manufacturer is Ghent and this one is pretty similar:
      www.amazon.com/Ghent-Reversible-Standing-Double-Sided-Chalkboard/dp/B002E0V170
Except ours in a chalkboard on one side and a dry erase board on the other.

Thank you! You know, I'm actually a terrible artist. It's often a challenge coming up with chalk drawings and I try to copy other artwork as much as possible. When I don't, it really doesn't turn out well. There are a number of art books that give step by step drawing instruction. These might be helpful.

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this chalk drawing! I think it's my favorite, yet. Thanks for making the tutorial. I think erasing it really is the most difficult part. That's when I second guess the whole "chalk" drawing theory! Hana, I've been meaning to tell you that I showed my daughter, Danielle, some of your other chalk drawings and I went into her room one day, and she was creating her own...just for fun! (from your inspiration) :)
Here's a link to our video from the day we had to erase it. I let her keep it up for a couple of months too, because I couldn't bare to make her erase it. It was already half erased by the time I thought to video tape it.

I watched it and oh my, now I have someone who relates! So here's a story: There was once a Waldorf teacher who drew a castle scene for the Middle Ages unit he was doing. He loved his drawing so much, his parents bought the chalkboard and had the drawing sent to him (or it was the other way around...can't remember) and they still have it, they paid for a new chalkboard. So yeah, sometimes, they are just too treasured to erase.

That's an awesome story! I'm going to let Danielle read it. I hope she doesn't expect me to buy a new chalkboard every time! hahahaha

You could buy a can of chalkboard paint and go to town!!

    • @tonyameadows9042

That will be a great idea IF I ever get the loan for this house I'm trying to buy. I didn't get my first attempt. I'm going with my own bank tomorrow. Wish me luck. My daughter said she'd like to paint a universe on one of her bedroom walls. But, I like the paint a wall or two with chalkboard paint idea better. Thanks for suggesting that! After all the chalkboard paint tutorials I've watched from people painting walls to furniture, why didn't I already think of that?! I guess, I'm still stuck in the renters mentality. She's going to flip when I tell her of your suggestion. She'll love it!
