I'd also love to see a video where you talk about shots that benefit/hurt players the most and why some are much more logical than others. The pull-up, 3 pointer while on a fast break, for instance, is a really bad shot to take more often than not (in my mind) and I'd love to see if you could find some data to back that up. Along with any other examples you may have.
Great video, although it might have been better if you had added some valid criticism on the seemingly 'dogmatic' use of analytics. For example: this year's game 7 WCF; houston were not making any of their 3pters all game long and yet instead of giving up a 3 pt look and instead try a mid ranger.. they repeat the exact same play almost everytime (harden drive to the basket then kick/layup). Meanwhile GSW while having the two best shooting backcourt ever still utilise KD's midrange/postups which gave them scoring versatility. All im saying is, while analytics is great at improving players/teams, it shouldnt be the be all end all decision maker but rather used as a tool.
I agree with a lot of this, but you have to remember that it’s not just about finding talent, but also developing it as well. A player can be great coming out of college, But if he isn’t developed well he’s not gonna become anything.
The way I see it is that anolictics has its uses but the best way to use it is for the bench players if you can find 3-5 players that out value there contracts that usually the difference between the mid tier teams and the real contenders (during the playoffs most teams go for a 6-8 man rotation anyways)
Great video that I would subscribe your channel a thousand times. By the way, can you compare great players with their contemporaries based on advanced stats. Just to debunk some players that were overrated by their fans and treat them like gods in basketball like Kobe, who was also regarded by his blind fanatics as the G.O.A.T. Like say, Duncan and Kobe comparison based on their advanced stats and so on.
Analytics are great and have their place, but at the end of the day they will never (at least anytime soon) be as accurate as a good eyetest. Just think about it, a good film review from somewhat who actually knows ball will be able to tell EXACTLY what went right/wrong in any given play. They can watch and use general basketball tactics along with that specific teams tactics to determine things like who had the most impact, who messed up, who was doing the little things that don't get picked up in the boxscore or casual eye. However there are of course 2 downsides to this. The first is that you need someone who actually knows basketball, and these people are incredibly rare. And second, it's very time consuming if you want to be 99% accurate. You'd have to watch footage of every player on every play in every game. Just doing a perfect analysis of one game would take forever. And this is where Analytics comes in. Analytics main purpose imo is the fact that it can automate this process which allows you to analyze every single player on every single team. That is the true power of Analytics
like seriously look at some of these numbers. PER = 21.5 TS% = 58.2% WS/48 = 0.185 WS = 6.7 BPM = 4.8 VORP = 3.0 RPM = 6.03 WINS = 9.88 those numbers came from a rookie big man that was 20 years old. Additionally he played 80 and started 55 of them so it's not like the stats are inflated
Your Channel is going to Blow up. I Love NBA Analytics and I feel most NBA fans only use the eye test
Agreed. Analytics are underrated in the NBA/NBA fan base.
Thanks man! I really enjoy your content too!
NSA: "Need some cameras? I got you." hilarious. :)

That's a good idea. Maybe a a video on different type of offensiveness schemes and what type of shots work best in certain scenarios?
Great video!
Can you do one on sports agents/ salaries in FA?
Thanks! And yeah that was something I was thinking of making one about. I will take this comment as a sign it should be the next one. :)

Varys from player to player. Some players are smarter about their work and know how to develop themselves, others are less so
I want your opinion. Who do you think is the better player in their top 10 NBA seasons. Chris Paul Or Kobe Bryant?
lonzo ball
Kobe

THANK YOU. Can you now do a video about how Nikola Jokić dominated the league without meny noticing?

He's a Beast
Yeah that's a good idea. I think it would be interesting to compare overrated vs underrated players and what numbers can be used to identify them.
Indeed
Analytics is the reason why 3 and D players are so important in today's NBA

How do you create scribbling animations like this??
This is an amazing channel. Would love to collaborate with you. Do you have an instagram or some way to dm?

Analytics are the death of sports
I really love the man, but with chuck is a coin toss, every time he opens his mouth you have a 50% chance of getting something really stupid.
Analytics are ruining sports.
Barkley is such a simpleton.
