Ik had dit concert nog niet gezien en was blij verrast door de grote variatie. Marjolein, geweldig gedaan. Jij voelt de liederen en zingt met passie wat je gelooft. Dank je wel!! Wat ik extra fijn vond, was dat er drie muziekstukken achterelkaar werden gespeeld, zonder aankondiging. Ik moet zeggen dat ik daar erg van heb genoten. Gert, je hebt weer iets gespeeld van Grieg, waar ik ook zo van genoten heb. Ik heb maanden geleden een lied van Grieg aangevraagd, Solveig's song, je hebt nu 2 uit de Peer Gynt gespeeld, misschien staat mijn verzoek ook in het boek en kan je dat voor mij spelen. Zing ik in het Noors vanuit Groningen met het mee. Dank voor alle concerten die jullie de afgelopen maanden online hebben gegeven. Dank voor jullie inzet om ons te plezieren. Wij blijven genieten. 🙏🏻👍

Thank you, Marjolein and Gert, for making these difficult days SO much better for each and every one of us so privileged and fortunate to be able to see and hear you! The piano part for B.A. is exquisite. How many great organists also play the piano with such sensitivity? Your Beethoven Pathétique performance is right up there with Freddie Kempf's (UA-cam). How many pianists play the organ with as much expression, overall command and yet, humility? All the heartfelt gratitude you (and Marjolein) receive is so well-deserved. Your generous online concerts have brought so much joy to so many. There's only one thing to say . . . thank you!
So much the natural interpretation of the music that carries pure emotion ... and cooperation between the performers (as one soul) I have not heard so long time.... Gert is a top organist for me, but I see that he is top in everything he touches ... :)

Ik ben in het huis geweest van Grieg, waar hij componeerde. Bij dat stuk wat je speelde zag in hem daar in gedachten deze prachtige muziek maken. Het bracht me ook weer terug naar de fantastische 2 jaren dat ik daar heb gewoond. Dit was voor mij heel speciaal, dank je wel.
Marjolein ik heb genoten, wat een prachtige stem heb je, ik hoop dat we je nog vaak mogen horen zingen.

Lovely singing Marjolein.
Sibelius’ “Valse triste” (Sad Waltz) is equally melancholy. Originally composed for a 1903 production of the play Kuolema (Death) by Arvid Järnefelt, the waltz captures the sense of haunting memories recollected in old age. Here is how the scenario for the waltz was described in the original program note:
It is night. The son, who has been watching beside the bedside of his sick mother, has fallen asleep from sheer weariness. Gradually a ruddy light is diffused through the room: there is a sound of distant music: the glow and the music steal nearer until the strains of a waltz melody float distantly to our ears. The sleeping mother awakens, rises from her bed and, in her long white garment, which takes the semblance of a ball dress, begins to move silently and slowly to and fro. She waves her hands and beckons in time to the music, as though she were summoning a crowd of invisible guests. And now they appear, these strange visionary couples, turning and gliding to an unearthly waltz rhythm. The dying woman mingles with the dancers; she strives to make them look into her eyes, but the shadowy guests one and all avoid her glance. Then she seems to sink exhausted on her bed and the music breaks off. Presently she gathers all her strength and invokes the dance once more, with more energetic gestures than before. Back come the shadowy dancers, gyrating in a wild, mad rhythm. The weird gaiety reaches a climax; there is a knock at the door, which flies wide open; the mother utters a despairing cry; the spectral guests vanish; the music dies away. Death stands on the threshold.

Fiat Lux & Morning Moods were an excellent choice to enlighten this gloomy Sunday morning! I enjoyed much the rest of the program too. And it was really nice to see Marjolein in the limelight! You have a beautiful voice, with your tessiture I assume you could sing Amazing Grace (an idea for a next time?). I would just suggest to sing nearer the microphone, for the piano is a powerful instrument.
