Great video Mark, im off 13 and looking into blades, didnt expect to buy them as i thought they were for pros but after hitting them i loved the soft feel on impact!
I haven't played since 2005 and I went to a local pro shop who let me test a whole load of Irons. We settled on Cleveland Ta2 at just £50 for the set. Great wee set and hits were more consistent with them. Best advice in the world is to use a shop that lets you try this stuff out.
Mark great answer.. I've just upgraded to Wilson Ci 11 irons but have had to work on flattening my swing plane with the thinner soles than my previous clubs.. I'm hitting a lot of fat shots with these irons.. I used to score in the mid 90's with my old clubs but now dropped back to around 110. I'd say it's more to do with your swing than your handicap.. Keep up the good work..
I can relate to this. I've started playing golf again recently after a 15 year lay off. I used to use perimeter weighted clubs but they had rusted. So I tried a set of Golden Ram Tour Grinds (the frequency matched ones) from the late 80's. I get loads of comments saying I shouldn't be using blades etc. However, I like them. I can feel when I hit off the toe or heel. The lofts are higher (e.g. my PW is 50 degrees) so I don't need a gap wedge.
Thanks for the good advice. I am wanting to be a better player being I started in May 2018. I have a hand me down set of cobra fp irons and burner driver. I am considering ap1 irons m6 and p790 because I like the look of them. There are no places to try them here so here’s my data. I Am a 90s golfer on my way down. I am 47 years old and get 93-98 speed on my driver. What’s your opinion for a set to keep a long time
Double take 3 times. Stop on your right foot, don't forget it! Now it's time to bring it around town! Bring it AROUND TOWN! Then you do THIS and THIS AND THAT AND THIS AND THAT AND THEN.... Mark finally hits his shot.
I'm a mid handicapper and I use a set of Nike VRS irons for forgiveness reasons. However since I don't like the look of them down by the ball, I often wonder if I would be more confident with a better looking (better players) iron and therefore strike It better? Hmm
Hello Mark, I'm very interested to hear your thoughts about the new irons from Wilson Staff, M3/C100/D100ES ... especially the FG Tour M3 as it compares to the Mizuno JPX Forged. They both look awesome, and I've hit the Mizuno JPX Forged and they feel and perform fantastically well. I'm looking forward to hitting the FG Tour M3 irons as well as I'm expecting equal results, but I'd like to hear your opinion. Keep up the great videos! Thanks, Louis
I've changed from Callaway X Tour forged cavity backs to Taylormade RAC Coin Forged blades, with a handicap around 18 (ranges from 41 to 50 on 9 hole), because my main misses are left and right. It might just be me, but I tend to hook balls more left with cavity backs - my directional misses aren't nearly as bad with blades. And the feel, of course, is incredible. Can't tell the difference in my 5 iron with my Mizuno MP-T 51 degree, feel-wise, on a solid shot. \
Don't like about golf is when people say its a players club, my current handicap is 20 coming down and I play srixon pro 100 blades and I like the feel of them and I like the control I have but people always tell me to get cavity backs, it's what your comfortable!
Dear Mark, Love the videos Mark great work!! Is there anyway before a lesson to narrow down whats causing problems in inconsistant ball striking as i cant work on anything if i dont know what to work on, Thank you mark From, Andrew in Ireland
i just wanted to ask if it is, "optimal" to use my dads former iron set. these clubs are steel shaft, both our glove size is mens S, and were both 5foot8. but my dad is in his sixties with medium handicap, and im 23 old and high handicap
(continued)!! I have subbed out the 1,3,4,5 iron for a 3,4,5 Mashie hybrid, so only use the 6 iron to SW now. I've added a mizuno 60deg as find it useful of hard lies onto raised narrow greens. Anyway if I top, slice or shank a shot I don't think a game improvement iron will help! Maybe it might make them go a few yard further, but I feel comfortable with what I have and I feel they have room for my game to grow with these clubs! So Mark I agree, play what feels good!
So true. Don't get me wrong. The manufacturers are a business. They market in a way to convince us the latest and greatest. The thing is that it is not true. Many of my buds buy whatever they are told is the best. This doesn't mean it is the best for them. The best club for you will always be the one that feels the best in the end. The one that gives us confidence. Now the angle and shaft may be a more accurate way of getting a optimal distance or shot shape, which the range of can be acquired in all major brands. I know many golfers who have never in their lives hit a Mizuno club or Titlest. Never!!! Why is that? Marketing. Mizuno could certainly do a better job of marketing, but we all know its a major brand and option so think about it next time you go club buying. The Mizuno may very well be your desired club or maybe not. Only one way to find out. Try them. Don't worry about matching you clubs throughout your bag unless they are paying you.
I have a question I have played many clubs but not blades. The reason why I've never played blades is because I picked up a old set of blades about a year after I started playing golf that were a good name brand but they had to be from the 50's and they were horrible it felt like I was hitting a rock and would hurt my hands almost every time. I am a much better golfer and can shoot low 80's almost every round and sometimes I shoot in the 70's but not much. I hit the ball very high every time with every club with my natural swing. I understand how to work the ball up, down, left, right and can control the spin as well. This is where my game just put the breaks on and I can't seem to take my score any lower no matter what I try. I have been a athlete all my life and have never shot over a 99 and that 99 was the first score I ever put up. I got good really fast compared to my friends and family. Should I change to a modern blade that will force me to become a better ball striker and then add some distance because with normal irons I'm about a half club behind the longest hitters in our group. But I hit the ball twice as high as everyone and I'm wondering if that's causing the shorter distance. I get under the ball really well and have no problem hitting a 9 degree driver off the ground. My natural hit is a small fade even with a pitching wedge. Oh and I'm right handed. Is there a club you could recommend in a blade that will work for me. Thank You in Advance!
Tom Isbester If I wanted any shit out of you I would have squeezed your head. So get off my post and STFU! If you would read the entire comment you would see I wasn't talking myself up I was giving him the info needed to recommend a blade that would improve my game. What an idiot just like every other 80 IQ I've ever met. You don't have the attention span to read the entire comment so you read about 8 to 15 seconds worth and decide to leave a 140 letter message or less. How ignorant you are and how ignorant you must feel Mr. super IQ, go back to tweeter!
hahahahahahaha hook line and sinker every time. Just like every other golf hero out there mate. If Im that much of an idiot why bother wasting time replying to me? I guess writing big long comments makes you feel good about yourself because going off your golf game you clearly have nothing good going for you.
Tom Isbester HaHaHaHaHa What an idiot. Go play around and stop nosing into everyone else's business and get some business of your own. I would destroy you at the golf course. MATE! LOL!!!
Tom Isbester Learn to play golf maybe you will have less time to make people feel sorry for you because something is wrong with you. Oh, Sorry Mate I didn't realize you weren't all there mentally have you got a page we can donate to help you with trying to find a cure so you can raise your mindset above a 10 year old? Again very sorry I called you an idiot I didn't realize you actually had a condition. I want read anymore of your comments that way I'm not tempted to call you an idiot or ignorant or anything like that with something really being wrong with you and all. Hope they are able to find a cure for your learning condition. I hope you get better.
The big question is, why does he have a high handicap like that? Get lessons, see a club fitter. Don't buy off the rack. That's like reaching into a bag of pills and taking one to see if you'll feel better.

Paul Stewart I started out with the TA3's - great clubs and ensure you have to learn how to strike a ball

Yes, good idea. More training aid reviews please Mark. We're all looking for the one that clicks & gives us that eureka moment.
