What might Fülek Castle have looked like in the 17th century? How faithfully do contemporary depictions reflect its appearance? These inquiries have been the focus of our investigation over the past year. Sadly, many of Hungary's historic buildings are found beneath the earth. One hundred fifty years of Ottoman (Islamic) occupation left the country in ruins. Thanks to the work of Pazirik Studio we can envision them in their full glory.

Well I wouldn't say it was the cause of the Ottoman occupation that the Castles and Fortresses are in Ruin, but it was pretty much after the Occupation. Since the Habsburgs decided to blew up the Castles and Fortresses Especially in the Upper Hungary (Slovakia) Transcarpathia (Western Ukraine) and Transylvania (Romania). Many of the uprisings were mainly fought on those territories, like the Bocskai's, Thököly's and Rakóczi's Wars of Independence, and also when the Principality of Transylvania would have a Anti-Habsburg Campaign the armies would mainly meet in those territories.
