      Can i learn tai chi with this grandmaster too?

      How can i get into such an authentic and intimate experience like George did?

  • @staciethelinguist697

    Stay with the small taichi place. You can get lost in a big school and not get the attention you want. I think you will learn so much more from a more intimate interaction. If you're looking to learn fighting then definitely go to a big school, but if you want to learn more about yourself and have a rich and enlightening experience i think you should stay put and learn Tai chi.

      I side my opinion with Stacie here. It seems to me that those two (the master and the girl) would teach you more than just Taichi and Kungfu. They are hospitable, caring and genuine. Spend some time with them but not for long.

    I hope you stay there George. It seems like a great family environment to learn a beautiful art with a wonderful scenery. I've been training to fight for years. Lots of busted knuckles and bruised shins. Now that I seek the Dao, I find Aikido and Tai Chi very suiting for my mindset. Trust me, you can add punches and kicks later. A punch is good, to smash your opponent with a planet is better. :-)

    I think he should stick with this small Tai Chi school. Hea young, maybe in too much of a hurry. Tai Chi has the spirtual and philosophical concepts of energy and strength that would serve him better in the long run. Being in China doesnt mean that it doesnt have an overload of Kung Fu ego maniacs. Settle in learn tai chi, learn the language, and then take a secound look at kung fu. You will be armed with the language, culture, and art of tai chi to make the right choice.

  • @solematedesign
    @solematedesign 6 років тому +12

    I vote Tai Chi. Looked really authentic and traditional, most of the other stuff you can get elsewhere but that is something thats hard to replace. I'd avoid the one with foreigners, and maybe the big schools too. A monastery might be interesting, but you can always explore that if you find the Tai Chi place isn't for you.
    Also, it just sounds like that's what you want to do most by the way you're talking about it. Best of luck bud x

    Tbh I would say for your personal experience the tai chi place, it seems like it almost perfectly matches the authentic experience u were aiming for. I do however think that if you r wanting to grow the channel with this trip in particular that the kung fu learning would attract more mainstream audiences, even though I would rather see the tai chi option(the one with the nice view and the giggly girl).

    Hi I know this is a little late but, there is this Kungfu academy called Wugulun academy, they teaches Xin Yi Ba Kungfu, the most authentic original Shaolin martial arts it's considered to be the most deadly styles of Kungfu remaining, you're taught to walk a certain way, to sweep the floor a certain way that all contributes to perfect that type of martial art.
    you can always try that place out after your stay here.

    • @obsidianstatue
      @obsidianstatue 6 років тому

      np. and the cool thing is Xin Yi Ba is that its somewhat similar to Taiji quan, most people's conventional view on Shaolin Kungfu are short sharp and explosive moves, but not Xin Yi Ba, it's more flowy with round movements, similar to Taiji but different. it embodies the Zen philosophy, and traditional Medicine of Shaolin. so you'll get some insight into another Chinese philosophical system that deals with martial arts.

      ua-cam.com/video/BWB8jVmdT_8/v-deo.html here's a short video on the daily life in the Kung Fu academy.
      associated with the Academy is a Shaolin master called Shi De Jian, he is the disciple of now deceased Shaolin Abbot Su Xi, Master Shi De Jian resides in a small temple near Shaolin temple, where teaches the same Kung fu but to a much smaller number of life long disciples, you can pay him a visit too.

    I mean, man, it is really hard to make this kind of decision.
    But I can give you my thought.
    Language is the window to Chinese culture including Kongfu or Taiji. I believe you are in a honeymoon period to China and you think everything you see is interesting. I think it is the perfect time for you to study Mandarin. (I don't mean PinYin I mean the Chinese characters. )We, humans, are misleading by other people's words especially media. (All media are liars.) If we can see things by ourselves, not from second-hand articles, we can be smart. As Chinese is kind of like the opposite side of English, I believe it is worthy to learn it regardless of its economic potential.
    Good luck to you man. Every path you walk is right as long as it is decided by youslf.

    Choose the place where you feel really comfortable. Its the most important thing. In the scene with the girls it locked like a kind of magic... Maybe these people become close friends or you develope a deeper relationship to that girl... who knows. In this case you probably visit these people and girls again and then you have a good startpoint to try out the other schools in the near.

    some TaiChi teacherswill begin self-defense application once you reach the intermediate level (which could take a few years) but at that level, you will focus heavily on the push hands & leg sparring, and also develop ur explosive energy (Jing), and you will learn how to put it to use in live self-defence situations. Remember, TaiChi - is the mother of all KungFu.

    Do you have any monasteries nearby or would it be difficult to find one? I reckon the Thai chi over the Kung fu though. The setting is unreal and seems more authentic. Just being with Chinese people would be great! + if Thai chi is pretty similar it makes sense...Could always do some Kung fu elsewhere afterwards and it would be pretty easy to pick it up after you've got the thai chi technique down 👌🏻

    In all seriousness that tai chi place looks very nice and I think it's definitely worth spending time there. But if you really want to learn combat Tai Chi is not what you want. If I were in your shoes I'd Tai Chi for a year or so. Good muscle training and culture training, and it's probably a pretty good foundation and way of thinking/living.

    Tai Chi or Tai Chi Chuan (written in China as taijiquan) is an internal martial art form. There are two other martial arts which are also "internal" - Baguazhang and Xinyiquan.
    Shaolin kungfu is an external martial art form. There are other Chinese martial arts which are also "external" and perhaps the most well known is Wing Chun which is what Bruce Lee learned before.
    Internal martial arts like taijiquan have gentler movements than Shaolin kungfu, and are performed slower as well.
    It's hard to advise you what you should do because what I think is good might not be true for you.
    You have to ask yourself, what is your objective for learning Chinese martial arts?
    Is it for combat (self defence)?
    In the words of Chen Zhenglei, who is a Chen Style Tai Chi grandmaster, a Tai Chi practitioner does not leave the school anytime before ten years. That is his way of saying that you are not ready for fighting anytime before ten years.
    If you want to learn to fight in the shortest period of time, then go for Shaolin kungfu...or you could even learn Karate or Muay Thai boxing in your home country in the UK. You should be able to box quite well after 3 years.
    Tai Chi is steeped in Taoist philosophy while you are going to get a bit of Buddhism in a Shaolin temple. But you need not follow the faith.

    Well it's too late to give advice, as you've made your choice, and it seems like a great one. Just wanted to point out, though, that the guy with the motorbike was Tang Li Long, who also teaches taijiquan, so it wasn't really a choice between taijiquan and gongfu, just two approaches to teaching taijiquan.

    which one did you choose? If it was me, I'd choose the last one. But I thought you wanted to learn Kung Fu - isn't Tai Chi different?

    It's so funny watching this, because there is actually a school a few 100 meters down the road from Zi Xiao Gong, behind the police station. Why didn't they send you there?

    I love your videos. While viewing this one I noticed the Swiss Tai Chi teacher dressed in traditional garb with his hair worn in a classic top-knot. I've always been a bit put off by foreigners who adopt traditional or classic clothes especially if the lifestyle they have doesn't require it. To me, it's a bit like a Chinese fellow coming to America and putting on a cowboy or indian outfit. While flowing and roomy clothes must make Tai Chi practice easier, it can certainly be done in regular street clothes as well, and if you can't then I think you've misunderstood the basic nature of the martial art. Tell me the errors of my thinking & I'll be grateful.
