The only difference is that one is made through science, and the other is made by the earth. Plus the price tag! Lab diamonds are cheaper because we can make them ourselves, but mined diamonds need to be created by the earth.
We are back here in Africa where people are fighting and dying about natural diamonds but she is sad that her diamond was made in a lab. The first world will really show us things....
There are Lab Grown diamonds now which are diamonds, just lab grown and they are chemically, physically, optically the same as natural mined diamonds but without the slavery and pricetag. They generally arent called 'diamond alternative' though because they are diamonds. Moissanite is also better than most diamond quality at mass jewelers. CZ is cz...its beautiful and pretty much looks exactly like a perfect diamond but its worthless.
No matter who mined it, they probably suffered, and the cost for nature is also very high. People have very selective memories - they forget all about the people and nature destroyed when there's a possibility to get their hands on a diamond. It's all about ME, ME, ME!
I want a diamond but I don't want one that has people mining for them. I want one that a machine made in a lab. Side note, i want to choose my ring and not be surprised by a ring I don't like. Also I am not spend over $1,000 for it. Seems like a dumb investment.
Diamonds are overpriced and overrated. Society, especially women, put so much pressure on the “perfect ring”, yet so many forget that a ring does not a marriage make.

So you’re saying I can get a perfect diamond for cheaper that doesn’t have the imperfections a mined diamond has. Sounds good to me I’d rather get that
Diamonds are intrinsically worthless anyways. You gain absolutely nothing by having a "natural" diamond over a lab made one. Oh, except you know, the not being mined by dying slaves.

Ah yes the expense is important! That reminds me of this girl I knew before leaving Twitter. She got engaged to a mutual friend (yay!) but then she went on in her tweets about how a large diamond ring is symbolic, and that “he’s _investing in my love”_ I guess some people see the value of the diamond as intertwined with the value of their relationship, and they don’t see anything gross about thinking that way 🤪
“Alternative” is too ambiguous though. “Diamond Alternative” could include anything other than a diamond such as CZ, glass, or anything that imitates the look of a diamond but not necessarily the same make up. As opposed to something more specific like “lab-grown/cultured/synthetic,” which means it’s a real diamond, but just man-made/process is artificial and sped up.
Problems with diamond: - If it's natural, you're supporting a trade that is brimmed with slave labor and malpractices - If it's lab grown, you're paying for something at a ridiculous premium, simply because all the diamond labs were bought by natural diamond companies which fixed the prices, and you end up supporting the same companies at the end - Diamonds are not that rare, unlike gold and silver. To convince the average consumer into paying more is almost a crime. It's like calling aluminum "light silver" and charge 10 times the price. A diamond drill cost $1 because diamonds are that cheap to make. - Moissanite has almost the same thermal conductivity and hardness as diamond, at 1% of the cost. Is diamond 1000% more brilliant? - To pay thousands for a lab grown diamond vs moissanite is crazy as you're not paying for the story of some rock sitting in the earth for "millions of years" anymore. By the way, your granite kitchen countertop is 1.6 to 2.7 billion years old.
I went into a jewelry store wearing a Moissanite stone and was approached by the manager who was training a new sales man. He called attention to my ring and told the new guy "this is what you have to look out for, a gal will walk in with a ring that looks like it's worth thousands". He asked if he could borrow my ring and I let him take it. He picked up a gizmo and told the new guy "this is how you test for diamonds", and did so. You should have seen the look on his face when it tested as diamond. Hilarious!
I keep telling people that diamonds are a bad investment, especially when there’s other stones that are much more rare and hold more value than a diamond ever could. When you trade in or try to sell a diamond ring, the value AUTOMATICALLY and drastically decreases. Making diamonds worthless.

Yeah I agree it shouldn’t matter and diamonds are extremely over prized and the better alternative in my opinion is a lab created diamond but its better because they aren’t overpriced. They made it seem like lab created diamonds are bad or a scam without literally saying it. I’m sure the rich share holders of the media with millions invested on the diamond business is the reason why this story was told the way it was on a negative way towards lab diamonds instead of a focusing on business doing illegal practices and just how corrupted the diamond business is and how focused they are on that big profit they can make when selling YOU a diamond.
Funny thing is gold is not shiny at all when mined. Diamonds have a clouded look. When they're cut a polished then they look like the shiny diamonds we all know.
There’s nothing wrong with lab created diamonds. I feel like they are ethically made than ones that comes from mines which may or may not use child labor.

The reason this is important to me honestly, is because you know damn well that there's companies out there that would try to charge you thousands for a diamond that only cost $50 to make in a lab, selling it under the pretense that it's a "natural" diamond. There are so many other gemstones out there that are naturally mined that are ACTUALLY worth their value, but diamonds ain't one of em sis.
synthetic diamonds are absolutely the same chemically and in every othewr way, and even more beautiful because they have no flaws and are ethically sourced....GROWN in a lab. However diamond simulant refers to either CZ, white sapphire, moissanite, or something else. A smart shopper could get a ring more beautiful than one for thousands more, if they did a little research on how to choose the best kind of diamond simulant... synthetics are quite expensive, and will test the same as a diamond. White sapphires requirre light from beneath to shine through, and go badly dull and cloudy when dirty, but even when clean they have far less sparkle. A moissanite has MORE fire than a diamond, and can save money but still cost a couple to a few thousand but usually under 5 for a decent stone that would be tens of thousands as a diamond with good color and clarity. and CZ are cheap, but they scratch easily, and lose their brilliance pretty quickly because of that... ( I researched this very recently lol) you are correct though, synthetic diamonds are chemically and visually exactly the same thing, but perfected.... so long as the seller isnt calling a "simulant" to be a synthetic or genuine diamond, I dont see the problem. If youre going to spend several thousand dollars you should know what you are getting, so these people should pay attention. Looks to me they WERE told, and even explained it in writing, and in my opinion that IS enough, contrary to what the ftc lady says...(sorry for rambling, I liked your comment, because youre right. and I wanted to elaborate)

Diamond ALTERNATIVE is pretty darn clear. 🙄
I agree!!!
People need to get a grip. Diamonds are not rare. Crazy markup value.
And they immediately depreciate, jewelers don't buy diamonds.. they buy the gold and silver attached to the diamonds.
Problems with diamond:
- If it's natural, you're supporting a trade that is brimmed with slave labor and malpractices
- If it's lab grown, you're paying for something at a ridiculous premium, simply because all the diamond labs were bought by natural diamond companies which fixed the prices, and you end up supporting the same companies at the end
- Diamonds are not that rare, unlike gold and silver.
@@Dfgjgjod I have an alexandrite that I put into my wedding ring. I believe to be real. As I have never seen another one with such beauty and brilliance. It changes colors from purple to green to garnet to gray. I have a diamond wedding band to go with it but it's to accent the Alexanderite.

Soul Glow except statistics will show that these people are still buying diamonds. People are all talk.
@@dewilew2137 well... according to this story, they're not. and sounds like theyre not alone
Lol, this piece really tried its hardest to kick dirt on lab grown diamonds.
Soul Glow me too. it’s refreshing
Is this the problem we all need to be worried about right now? They are upset about a diamond ring while living in a trailer park.
Just so you all know....not all diamonds come from south african mines. Some come from Canadian mines and are conflict free. They are good quality stones just like any other. Im wearing some right now and they are beautiful 😁
A S And, there are also diamonds mined right here in the good old USA too!!! Diamonds are also mined in India, etc. So, not all diamonds are conflict diamonds, like in the movie Blood Diamonds, staring Leo DiCaprio & Jennifer Connelly...
@@thepinkpollyanna766 exactly....i say boycott african diamonds. 👍
Sis y’all went to the mall to buy the ring! Just be thankful sheesh...
...now I’m gonna go back to minding my “single” business lol
I can’t believe this hasn’t crushed Debeers since diamonds are pretty much worthless.
Diamonds are really worth nothing.
That is why one company has to have a monopoly.
Well technically it's multiple companies, so that makes it an Oligopoly. Just like Cable!
10 thumbs up. GATHERING STICKS
user.equalto.Null No, it’s only one company
Well said!
What's funny is they didn't pay "natural" diamond price, but were surprised to find out they had a lab stone and made a fuss to the news. First and foremost, to be bothered by the difference when they're elementally the same thing is incredibly uppity. But second, if you wanted something special why would you get something cliche like a diamond anyway? Was it a status symbol for you? Because cubic zirconia looks exactly the same on your finger. If you want something meaningful, get something unique like an asteroid gem or a birthstone. The way the reporter calls them "simulated" diamonds really gave me a laugh.
A lab diamond IS a diamond. A simulated diamond is NOT a diamond at all. A CZ is a "simulant", and I'd be pissed too because a CZ is plastic. The reporter is wrong. Lab diamonds CAN have inclusions because it all depends on the diamond seed it grows from.
Uhhhh who cares if it’s man made. Isn’t that more ethical anyways?
This really isn’t news. Like who cares.
Because it's less valuable. The couple is getting ripped off on the price.
Koriand'r Johnson The person buying a fake diamond cares some people might not know there is anything wrong with the diamond they purchased. There is nothing wrong with warning people about what could possibly happen when purchasing a diamond!!
The lady with highlighter all over her nose clearly cares and so does the news stations 🤣
@@ChillingWithMel22 it's not a fake.. learn to pay attention or maybe operate google
Lady Scarface obviously I know hence the name of the UA-cam video you obviously did not read my post or watched this UA-cam video or read the comment that I was responding to come on and wake up girl!!!
Watch out for Kay jeweler too !! They switch your stone to cheaper one.
The only reason I'd want a real diamond is to be able to sell it once i get divorced.
Women these days........ thank god for the red pill 😂
@@bigggincognitohammy6791Let's not go there. I've actually been divorced because my ex husband became an abusive heroin addict. A ring to sell would've been nice but he pawned mine without telling me.
Most diamonds are blood 💎’s...
Get a simulated diamonds and save lives.
1:15 lab diamonds are still diamonds! Jewelry stores love saying it’s not a “real diamond” before they want to hike up the prices for a mined diamond that can be problematic!
Her nose highlights are shining brighter than her diamond ring! 😂
Oh no you mean no blood diamonds how aweful . Really people it's a carbon put a peice of coal on your peice of metal . 😂😂😂
Nola Monahan yeah and do you know that it’s not just a piece of coal it’s a live piece of carbon that had been out under pressure and heat for a long time to crystallize the molecular structure it is made of and turn it into s diamond
@@Joe-fb4eg no I didn't know that, but always like to learn something new. I was just being a smart butt, I just really don't see why someone would be upset cause it was made in a lab . But sometimes people don't always relate. Ty for that info though .
Nola Monahan because a lab grown one is closer to plastic than a real diamond
Lab diamonds are an awesome creation! It’s the exact same rock for a cheaper price; what’s not to like? It’s just made differently!
They bought it at a mall. What did they expect?
right, ever see the STUNNING simulated diamonds at walmart? Theyre crystals, with excellent diamond style cuts. And far prettier than the cloudy diamonds walmart sells...lol
Well malls have "luxury brand" stores like Gucci, so I would be surprised if there weren't pretty high-priced jewelry stores as well.
user.equalto.Null Depends on the mall but even then idk why people are acting like jewelers at the non luxury malls don’t sell real diamonds??
When you realise the diamond business is paying for an advert on the news channel 🤦♂️
This lady should be grateful, I can't even afford a moissanite right now.
Diamonds are a joke anyway. Why waste money on something thats actually worthless
Creepy Toxic dude, it fucking sparkles, what’s wrong with you?! SPARKLE! A marriage is meaningless without that sparkling rock.
Leonessa Elitneg lmao tell that to the penguins! Sparkle don’t matter
Dido’s Tempest just the other day I saw a penguin proposing with a giant diamond, I don’t need to tell them. They know.
Instead of a Diamond, what about investing that money into something else, or going on a vacation. Those memories of your vacation with your significant other will be forever, while that rock will only sit on your finger.
Dude, this isn’t new!! I’ve know about lab diamonds for years. It’s an ethical alternative to diamonds
I remember back in high school (10+ years ago) when cubic zirconia started gaining traction. My local quickie marts had rings for $20

Chunky Lady: What can you tell me about my ring?
Jeweler: He didn’t go to Jared.
Mike Bendis lmaoooo
Chunky lady could of saved all the highlighter she put all over her nose and shoved it all up her bum and made her own diamond 🤷♀️ nows that's news
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wow you guys, just wow! 🤣 💎
Jared sucks!... Way over priced
Lab diamonds is still very expensive. How much does it cost them to make it? Have you questioned who monopoly the market?
They are literally the same thing
Except the lab diamonds don't have blood on them.
@@yoseppijoe it ain't a diamond if it wasn't dug out by enslaved African Children
synthetic diamonds are absolutely the same chemically and in every othewr way, and even more beautiful because they have no flaws and are ethically sourced....GROWN in a lab.
T Crider just curious, how was the place able to tell what was natural or lab created
@@beegyoshi8797 .....looking at it. Obviously they knew what to look for. Google how to tell real from fake.🤷♀️
Diamond jewelry is a blind item with huge markups. Never buy retail.
I’m confused it’s still chemically a
diamond though isn’t it? Plus this way no one had to die especially children in order just for her to have a shiny object on her finger🤦🏻♀️. Lab made Diamonds aren’t a new thing either I thought everybody was completely aware of their existence.
Diamonds are not a girl's best friend. Puppies are! I don't even wear jewelry, it just gets in the way...
