I remember the first time I saw Granamyr in the Filmation series. Both episodes really opened up the door to some excellent lore implications for MotU. Sure, it was weird that He-Man had to do a trial so that one of the dragons could become a human to marry a lady, but Granamyr really made me curious about Eternia's lore. I really wanna know more about the dragons of Eternia due to Granmyr's introduction and the stuff he mentions.
Awesome info. Granamyr is one of the very best in MOTU right next to Skeletor in my book.
Who is Granamyr? Only one of the best dang characters in all of fiction! So thrilled with this figure; it's one I've wanted since 1983.
Unfortunately, the right shoulder joint on mine was warped and locked up when it arrived, and thanks to the long transit time for international shipping, I didn't get him until the return window had passed. The shipping took long enough that I'd even read about the "let him wait at room temperature for a while before you assemble him" fix, and even following that advice, the shoulder was knackered.
Happily, I was able to get another Granamyr with perfect joints, and I plan on customising the damaged one into a Green Granamyr. Someday. Eventually.
this is the only thing for which i prefer filmation over mini-comic version but the gap is narrowing. i got the red one and apparently now i need the green one too dammit. thanks for making these happen scott. does anyone remember the insanely well executed custom someone made in like 2005?
Probably the best thing out of Classics. We will likely never really it again and he’s wonderful
That helmet kills me 🤣🤣 frign love it
Every time I offer to show someone my big, fat, purple-helmeted dragon, I get slapped. Can't imagine why . . . . 😉
Me seeing the bookshelf with action figures: "Oh man, that setup looks like mine" "MY COLLECTION IS NOT YET COMPLETE"
Thanks for doing video on this figure! I have most of the classics line. Missing a few! This figure is one of them! So much money on ebay now!
I'm not a MOTU collector, but when this came out I almost bought it! What an amazing and massive sculpt!
scott please speculate on why mattel didn’t get 4HM to work on origins. it seems they’d be game w anything motu & some of the origins sculpting is kinda meh, and not in some purposeful retro way
Absolutely loved seeing Granamyr brought to life at long last! I always wanted him as a kid! Now seeing him In classics, it brings me joy, but shocks me how pricey his Red Skin version is vs his comic book green!
The red and green problem is even WEIRDER than that and goes WAAAAAY beyond MOTU. One of the design supervisors at Filmation was color blind. This lead to coloration craziness in Filmation cartoons for decades. Since he couldn't tell the difference, in some Lone Ranger episodes, he had a black mask, other times he has a purple mask. Since they recycled animation even more than Hanna-Barbera it would flip flop throughout the cartoon. There were pink and purple tribbles on Star Trek. They even have purple/blue panther on Tarzan.
I didn't get into the MOTUC line until much later (I wasn't even aware it was a thing, initially). So I missed out on the fig & wasn't willing to pay what after-market reselling were asking for him. I love dragon figs, so I'm glad I at least got Draego-Man. The MOTUC line did a much better job w/ "clever reuse" than virtually any other MOTU/PoP line (especially the vintage ones).
He’s one of my absolute favorites!
MUST HAVE ONE!!!!!! oh...those prices on Ebay.....
That would be such an awesome figure to have. I wish they'd rerelease the classics line. Masterverse is no substitute for it.
Never understood why Mattel didn’t just re-release the line to retail.
@@rayvenkman2087 What kind of shape are the molds in? If they are shot, they'd just have to make all new molds anyways, like they did for the reissues of the originals.
@@brettwood1351 They’d have to be in good shape if Super 7’s using the buck.
@@rayvenkman2087 Are they? Then that's a sign. Granted toy companies can be reluctant at times to do reuses of figures, even if there seems to be a fan demand. In this case they might think kiddies won't want them, and the collectors all have them already.
@@rayvenkman2087 No. Brian Flynn said they had to retool the entire figure. They basically reverse engineered it.
I miss my Granamyr! During our move, some of my collection was stolen. He was one of them.....it was a bummer.
I feel like you need Batros there too, ready to steal that stack of books.
I have both. Well I have all Motu in fact. 😜 Great review Scott as usual. Thank you from France. Jerry
Oh nice. That makes me think. What I'd love would be a literary classic based action figure (Shelley's Frankenstein Monster, Stoker's Dracula, Robin Hood, King Arthur/Green Knight, etc. H.G. Welles' Martian's...the walking tripod can be the build a 'figure' or vehicle) each in a box shaped and designed to look like their hardcover novels. Oh and with a scan-code and link to the actual novels and maybe to a kids' version?
Maybe the other color is forest or Moss Man green akin to the Green Goddess. Another great video sir- thanks! And that art of him is awesome! And maybe you can mix & match the 2 for a very special Christmas episode of He-Man.
This is fantastic!! Hey random question: could you do a vid or vids listing all the lines and iterations of motu... I know I’m probably asking a lot. Can’t wait for the follow up on the German audios. Thanks for your work.
Granamyr’s episode, partly taken from JMS’s D&D games, was also awesome
2:38: Totally unintentional! Happy December everyone!
2:05 - toxic waste green, I believe.
If you like dragons with books you should check out the new NECA Goliath Gargoyle action figure...one of his accessories is a book 😁👏 he also has wings, so if you squint your eyes you can pretend that he is a dragon LOL 🤣👍
I admit, driving around & looking for this dude, along with Tytus & Griffin in different Big Lots, was a bit delusional on my end..🤣
No, you were desperate. All us toy collectors have been there, and done that.
Green Granamyr is what broke me from being a MOTU completist. Since I no longer had a complete MOTU collection, I was willing to skip some large items after that and just focus regular figures. Later the price of some Power Con figures also broke be from collecting every figure, I dropped any alternate versions of characters I already had after that.
@@Beedo_Sookcool Powercon has been key in me not just skipping con-exclusive MOTU toys, but buying less of the general release toys too.
@@lilformersmatt Yeah, I know what you mean. Hasbro's been doing the same thing with TransFormers, for me. Oh, they've got a new, bigger Seeker mould? Excellent! Wait, all of them except Starscream are exclusives?!! Well, guess I won't be getting ANY of those, then . . . .
So, looking down the road a bit, will you keep doing videos on the figures you started work on but were released after you left Mattel, or do you plan to stop on what was released while you were still there? Personally I'd love to see your commentary on stuff that Super 7 released, but that may not have the same insight. You should call Brian over there and et up interviews for his stuff.
I don’t know if I will do say Granita but I’ll prob do Lodar if that is what you are asking. I’ll definitely do the 2015 line as I worked on that extensively
I fully plan to build a life-size Grayskull Weapons rack with all the implements so I can put it in my future basement rec room.
Granamyr is one of the figures I missed out on. I kept saying: "ill get him eventually". Boy was I wrong. $500+ now....
I have a question, when looking at HASLAB, they seem to have an existing rancor figure on display for their crowd funding, does that mean that they have the tooling already done, or is it 3d printed or sculpted?
@@robd1329 As I learned from one of our hosts previous videos, they wanted to do the Rancor earlier, and had a big display with it at Comic Con, so they have a physical copy already, even if they need to do the tooling.
I think that's just the prototype sculpt. I doubt that thing's going to get made, though. They lost so many backers with their original demipygous tiers that they'll never make up the difference in time . . . and I've seen loads of toy-backing schemes meet and exceed their goals in the last hours, but I'd be shocked if this one did, it's so far behind.
@@Beedo_Sookcool Let's see, less than 5000 backers currently. Heck, even though it's not that great porportionatly, I'd give the skystriker better odds. Yeah I don't know how many backers it lost, because we don't know who would have gone for it but were waiting before. I know at least 500 pulled out. The Gammoran Guard was okay, because hey, recreate the one getting eaten. But Crumb and Luke killed it. Rancor Keeper was a no brainer, and Oola or Leia would have made it I think.
@@brettwood1351 Exactly! I'd love to be wrong, though, so those who want it can have it. But I'm not holding out a lot of hope.
According to you, the plastic became brittle but if you left it out to reach room temperature before assembly, the plastic will magically not be brittle anymore. Explain how this is possible. Or is this one of those it is because I claimed it to be.
I wonder how Kevin Smith gonna rewrite his own story for Granamyr. You know this guy is gonna pop up in Kevin's MOTU.
Is that a metric or imperial Ackbar?
For me he is such an iconic design, in terms of dragons. Fiction is full of generic dragon designs, that are forgotten the second the movie or whatever is over. This guy I will always remember, for some reason. Him having a helmet is a big part of that, I think, because it makes him distinctive. But also his body is different. He aint an elegant dragon. But he is cool
He's an older dragon living a more sedentary life, and his physique shows that. :)
I never understood the helmet - does he have a particularly soft skull I wonder. Maybe some dire injury from his wild youth.
The Ackbar Measurement System is probably my go to measurement system.
You should've said acid green.
Expensive to make, try expensive to acquire now lol ($500+ in most cases). I'm glad I got mine when he came out and I'm glad that red won!
Candy Apple Green?
Probably no chance we'll see Granamyr for Origins giving the expense in tooling.
Who's that Rudie guy who does the art? I've tried looking him up before but think I'm spelling his name wrong
So Granamyr was just like the Kenner POTF2 Flagship vehicles: the Millennium Falcon and later the AT-AT. Swapped yearly or ever two years.
I recently found a box of my.old HeMan figures....Battle armor Skeletor, Man at Arms, Man e Faces, lots of She Ra, and Skeletors Stridor. Idk how to repair them...legs are broken off.
Why do you feel it’s you have to “reward” fans who go to conventions with exclusives. They usually just turn around and sell the exclusives on ebay for crazy prices thereby frustrating other fans who couldn’t attend.
From my eBaying experience, the least expensive packaging is not an enclosed box, it’s an old paper bag with scotch tape.
@@knuthamsun6106 I’ve gotten things from eBay that were shipped in a badly taped paper bag.
oh right. yeah it’s weird how terrible at packaging some sellers are. i was always surprised how buyers gushed about my attention to packaging until i started buying shit packed so terribly
Does Granamyr have something to do with Germany.
his badass lid is far from the only motu element to derive from things germanic. no offense scott
The way I understand it, Granamyr was a dragon character created by Larry DiTillio, originally for a Role-Playing Game, and he wrote Granamyr in for "The Dragon's Gift" not long after.
WHAT?! You..... 'people'.... foresaked a stack of beautiful worlds of knowledge and mind-engaging experiences wrapped in the bindings of literary volumes - for a bunch of "golden stabbies"???
The heck, Scott! Even Skeletor tells us how awesome books are. And you didn't listen to Skeletor??????
I have found using Akbar for a unit of measurement, that given that it is generally understood that compared to a fossilized cephalopod, octopus, that the same weight ratio rounded up, give or take a slight degree, that in most scientific findings, it is complete nerdness 😛
This thing was too $alty for me, but I think it is one of the most awesome toys ever made.
Not replying any more messages?
My client load has increased so I can’t always get to every comment! But I read em all!
Let's be real: If Deadpool were a MOTU character, hijacking the brand is totally something he would do.
I have my granny next to my Snake Mountain and Castle Grayskull. Its a huge display scene for me!...as for the accessories..that should have been released separarely with some shields. ELDor came with a book and the ghostbustera line came with a huge stack of books with the library ghost.
You describe Spector for what he is at beginning video. Most fans call him a self insert. You draw your own conclusions. I'm trying to be nice. people don't like these behavior styles.
I have no skin in the game. Just curious to why you think you received so much flak from other channels. Due to you mentioning channel content and creators by name? Or your corporate background and your answers based or appearing to be from pro company perspective? Or a combination of both? Or something completely different? I know that Spector Figure sure is a nail they like to hammer you on. However I think that’s just a jab, not the root cause of sheer vitriol some channels have for your content. It seems you have weathered the storm however and pull in plenty of views.
Wait scott doesn’t actually know motu history, but isn’t scott the expert in motu history. When mattel fired you. Not when you left. Tell the truth Scotty boy.
lose the tude bro this toy shit is where we come to chillax kinda like holy places on highlander
@@brushstroke3733How so? I've seen many people say this and he doesn't even reply. So I guess he doesn't have any legal claims
@@richspeck8932 Maybe he has a legal claim of lible, but has no interest in taking such commenters to court over it. The legal system is a mess and he is probably wise enough to avoid it even if it means allowing commenters to slander him.
This figure arrived for me in the midst of winter in Canada. I always let ALL of my toys arriving by mail sit for hours before I take them out of package when it's very cold out. I remember with Granamyr especially I set his unassembled parts out and patiently studied them like a kid looking at wrapped gifts under a Christmas tree. And what a fantastic figure! Worth every microsecond of waiting. The green one is the only Power-Con item I have because a second Granamyr is the only way to improve on having just one.
