  • Unboxing a tenor cornamuse, made in Poland a week ago.

Disclaimer: the instrument probably sounds a lot better than my poor efforts. This is the first time I attempt to play anything that has a double reed.

If this doesn't go viral there's no justice in the world

Nice! Another Tomaszewicz cornamuse owner, especially the tenor one! My first (and so far only) windcap too!
I'm just getting back to it after a year (got mine in 2019), and it still holds up very well. Not only is it very easy to play and a whole lot of fun, but I love his design as well, from the plain and simple, flush shape to the very tiny holes at the base.
Indeed, all his cornamusen have the extended key above the finger holes as standard.
The plastic reed, too, is standard, but you can get a wooden reed as an option.

Is it a common practice to have pitch correction on this and the shawm? I have no idea how to record these, but I’m very interested.

Not really. But my playing skills were so poor that I included one to make it less painful to the listener.

Very nice! I think my soprano cornamuse came from the same maker. Can you recommend any learning materials?

Thank you. The tone is great but I was expecting it to be a lot louder (not that this matters much). I've been learnng by "playing" it - using only the fingering chart that came with the cornemuse.

@@migueldoliveiracomposer Thank you for the reply. I'm still struggling to get stable pitch and tone. You seem to have got it right first time!

@@Gelsenbury it helps if you are familiar with playing soprano and / or tenor recorder, the fingering positions are the same. As for keeping the reed a little stable: I read that it helps to use plastic reeds, the tone seems to be the same and you don't have trouble with moisture staying in the reeds like with wood reeds. And of course, simply practise.

@@arno-luyendijk4798 Thanks, the fingering is getting better. What I'm struggling with is to get the right pitch. My high notes sound flat. They may need more air pressure. I have a plastic reed, so that's not the issue.
