ua-cam.com/video/r9XU-YZ72Hs/v-deo.html I can even cut a kevlar (bulletproof vest material) covered forearm with that particular sword, not to mention thigh roll.
Yes, I've let some other people in the US tried my kind of targets and they all find it way more difficult than tatami mats. Some even had their sword damaged when the cut was not going through the "bone". ua-cam.com/video/F5TMCTv_JPE/v-deo.html As shown above.
Thats why a tatami mat shouls be accompanied with a green bamboo core to get more realism out of them. Not saying it is a perfect equivalent or we do not have anything better these days, but it is traditional and with a thick bamboo core quite hard to cut.
@MaaZeus Skall usually uses a solid dowel inside tatami mats, which put up more resistance than bamboo, although hollow bamboo certainly looks more like bone than a dowel
"I do not like this side" Procedes to destroy said side. Good to see you having fun with a new, beautiful, sword. It looks a bit like either a long sword mixed with a katana (due to the guard and pommel) or an Katzbalger that had a growth spurt. I love it.
Lancelot has worked really hard to create the Red Baron and the Supreme Cutter - great to see that he's finally getting some love! Lancelot has great sparring videos on his youtube as well.
What I noticed about the Shmashir is that, despite being an effective cutter against other mediums, it had a tendency to slide when it faced resistance on the pipe because of the extreme curve it has. In the slow-mo shot, it faces more resistance when it hits the pipe core, so it starts to slide during the cut. As it slides off, less of the cut is able to make it through, which means it isn’t able to complete the cut/slice and performs worse in this test because of the extreme curve. This is why it might be a great cutter in other tests but not this one, which may potentially tell you about its effectiveness against bones and other such details
That was an impressive blade. No worries about the edge alignement with the Shamshir, Skal. I'm pretty sure the guy that ended up with half his leg ham sliced with it wouldn't have cared in the least about the edge being aligned or not. Have a wonderful weekend, mate. Cheers.
You can clearly tell from this video how the blade's profile is ideal for cutting, by how easy it is to guide it on the cut and how the blade likes to "separate matter". That's some really nice craftsmanship for a dedicated purpose!
Damn, that's a mighty fine sword from Lancelot Chan. It's both a beauty and a beast. From what I understand, tatami mats are good for testing your edge alignment, but soaked newspaper with cores are tougher to cut through and thus are better to get closer to simulating real-world usage and how it may have performed in history. I guess the more expensive option isn't always the best when it comes to targets.
