Yes you are right. He was largly ignored in Iran as we would have been in any other country. Who cares for people in small vilage of khorasan and their music? At least he had a chance to be discovered and presented to the world. Who took him to France.
Iran is a multicultural society there are different ethnic groups in Iran Turks, kurds, Jews. Nationally They are all Iranian. Like Kurds in turkey are turkish. Music is an international language doesnt belong to any particular country.
