      Competing in the same market segment as Sx FH may not be the market BO is targeting. While BONG will certainly exceed the capability of a FH doesn’t mean there is strong viable market or high demand for a BONG class launch vehicle. Sx has flown FH only 6 times since its inaugural test flight. On the other hand, as of January 2025, the F9 has been successfully launched 433 times. The Sx F9 class vehicle market is what BO should have set their sights if they wanted to compete with Sx FH.

    Remember the Challenger disaster in 1986? Do you? Rather delay a launch than have another event like that. This may be unmanned but the there is not much to learn from shrapnel and burned wreckage but much to be learned from a safe and completed mission. Delaying is the better option all round. How many times has SpaceX delayed their launches?

    • @thomaswakefield6889
      @thomaswakefield6889 46 хвилин тому

      That's funny because SpaceX has learned a lot from its failed flights. As for the Challenger disaster, that was all on NASA's leadership. They knew about the faulty O-rings and refused to replace them. Then you had the Colombia disaster, and again, that was a NASA leadership problem as they also knew about the faulty heat tiles that fell off during reentry that caused the shuttle to blow up.

We need two horses in our team for this new space race, dare I say three with Rocket Lab. Even knowing it probably wasn’t gonna launch, I still went to the cape to watch it. I wasnt annoyed that it scrubbed, i was annoyed there was no transparency with Blue. Instead of telling us what was going on, 5 times they let the clock get down to around T-10, but then would add 30 min to it. They should’ve just said they’re calling it and will try another day. But I’ll be at that scrub too 😂
    I just know we need more than spacex going up there, so we should keep cheering them on, it’s an amazing rocket and I cannot wait till it actually launches

    • @GenericGerman
      @GenericGerman День тому +1

      A return to the launch site requires a landing site, which can be dangerous for the equipment around. But more importantly, you need extra fuel to "turn around". And you wanna turn around quickly. So you need really strong RCS for such a huge cigar. Alternatively you could use the main engines to flip it, but that requires additional fuel and a way to settle it on the bottom of the tanks, otherwise it'll float around in liquid bubbles and end up with gas bubbles in your turbopump and you gonna have a bad day. So, extra thrusters or hot-staging..
      It's rocket science.^^

    It really isn't as bad as you've described, it was the first launch of a vehicle that has a hydrolox second stage. Also, if you didn't go into it seriously not even somewhat expecting a scrub, then you've got no idea what you're talking about.

    Blue Origin is not in the entertainment business, it will launch when the weather is favourable and all systems are nominal, why would anyone want them to launch beforehand? If people don't want to be disappointed, they don't have to watch.
    StartShip's first launch was delayed due to a technical fault, when it did launch three days later it destroyed the launch pad, failed to self-destruct on command and luckily self-destructed itself, if that were Blue Origin this channel would have considered that a failure, after all who would have though that without a water deluge system the launch pad in unlikely to survive.
    Space X's "Launch, crash, learn" methodology takes deep pockets. Space X is way behind its own schedule for landing man on the moon, I personally like to see both companies succeed (as well as Dreamchaser) but it seems there are lots of Space X fans that only want one company to have success.

    Space is hard. If it were easy they would have done it.
    I think we should cut BO some slack here as they did have a fueled and ready to go rocket on the pad.
    Technical issues happen.
    Should have it taken this long to get to the pad? Hard to say. Probably not. But then they are taking a VERY different approach to this than Space X is.
    Wrong approach? I'll reserve judgment on that.
    They are taking what I call a "Charles Emerson Winchester" approach to rocket design. They won't move forward until the previous task has been executed perfectly.
    If this approach results in them sticking their landing on the recovery ship the first time... then one could argue that this approach was more efficient as far as lost equipment goes.
    If they crash this thing 4+ times trying to get their first landing...
    ... then it wasn't and taking a hardware rich approach as Space X did should be considered the norm.
    But as I said... I'll reserve judgment on this until I see the actual performance of what they have designed.
    I wish them the best of luck on their next attempt.

    Then theres jeff bezos.... whom I believe created blue origin for only 3 reasons: 1. government handouts for NASA missions that he was never gonna fulfill. 2. As a joke. And 3. He got serious when it wasn't a joke anymore after personal qualms with elon musk.
    It really is that simple....

    I watched....for an hour or 2. Evidently Blue Origin has no white males on staff. One reporter after another after another was female and DEI. To make matters worse, the broadcast was based on Spacex launches, complete w "clever snd cute-sy" names. When Spacex broadcasts, there are both male and females involved. DEI is not evident....only Meritocracy - and it shows. The level of analysis last night was disappointing to say the least. New Glenn will launch.. i have no doubt...but I will stream it on UA-cam AFTER the fact so I don't have to be exposed to their politically correct drivel.
