    I'm a strong believer, but I've dreaded attending church my entire life. I don't hate "The Church" itself, or other Christians, I just don't like attending. I've felt much guilt about it over the years, as in many ways in stood in the way of being a better spiritual leader for my family. My wife has never had any interest either, although also a less strong "believer".
    Social Aspect:
    I made MANY attempts over the years to "plug in", and tried many different churches, but the concrete would never set. I think church attracts socially/community oriented people. They are the PTA, scouts, clubs, "volunteer" types. I just do not enjoy any of that "organize" stuff. I have prayed about it, and don't fully understand why my heart hasn't softened in this area, because my faith has changed me in many other ways.
    Christian Rhetoric Aspect:
    The music and imagery IS a big part of it too. I just cannot abide the sticky, sappy love songs with women on stage swaying slowly with the eyes closed in some weird spiritual ecstasy. Nor some bearded hippy looking worship leader in Birkenstocks and skinny jeans with a guitar. PUKE! Jesus said "if you love me, obey my commandments"....I just try to focus on that target..."loving my neighbor"...but that's a whole 'nuther problem. In the Anglosphere we use the word "love" in MANY different contexts. In greek, there are many words for love. I think English speaking men get the cringe when "L" word is used in so many different contexts in a single sermon. Love your wife and Christ loves the church? Ummm...what? Ok. The church is the "bride" of Christ? I don't want to associate my identity with a "bride" in any way at all. Jesus is the "bridegroom"? The imagery DOESN'T WORK with modern male sensibilities.
    I now attend a small, weekly men's Bible study, but it takes force of the will. It's harder to skip because people miss your presence. I'm invisible at Sunday services. I try to attend Sunday services 1-2 times a month when I can muster the discipline to do so, but my wife does not go with me. It all takes constant discipline. I could easily quit (attendance, not my faith), and never go back with the bat of an eye.
    I wish it was easier. It seems so second nature for other folks.

    Wait. We can have hand-to-hand combat during offertory??? Sure, maybe we don't have to have it, but since you brought it up, there is no reason we shouldn't. That's an awesome idea!

    One of the best analogies I ever heard in the church was from Curry Blake.
    When we go and watch a movie, we put ourselves in ether the position of the rescuer or the one being rescued.
    So why is it that in church, we have Christ as the superhero (and he is), and both the men and women are the helpless ones.
    God didn't sow a servant to reap servants but sowed a Son to reap son's (if you are a woman, then you are a son because you are in the Son) and has bought many to glory!

    The institution of the government marriage license, which Pastors require for the solemnization of marriage, has effectively undermined the traditional concept of patriarchal marriage. This requirement, mandated by secular authorities, imposes legal regulations and obligations that supersede the biblical model of marriage. Firstly, it's important to note that there is no biblical mandate for pastors or clergy to perform marriage ceremonies. Marriage, as outlined in the Bible, is a covenantal union established before God and witnessed by the community. The role of religious leaders in marriage ceremonies evolved over time and varies among different Christian denominations, but it is not explicitly prescribed in Scripture. The introduction of the government marriage license introduced a secular legal framework into what was traditionally a spiritual and covenantal union. This license grants legal recognition to the marriage and confers certain rights and responsibilities upon the parties involved, as defined by civil law. In essence, it shifts the authority over marriage from the church to the state, undermining the spiritual significance of the union. Moreover, the requirement for a government marriage license imposes secular regulations that contradict and undermine biblical principles of marriage. For example, secular laws recognize divorce for reasons not sanctioned by Scripture, such as irreconcilable differences or no-fault grounds. Additionally, the legal definition of marriage extends beyond the biblical understanding of a union between one man and one woman. By mandating compliance with secular legal requirements, Pastors effectively surrender the spiritual authority and autonomy of marriage to the government. This undermines the biblical concept of patriarchal marriage, where the husband serves as the spiritual head of the household and the family operates under God's authority. In conclusion, the government marriage license required by Pastors for marriage ceremonies has legal and practical implications that extend beyond the spiritual realm. It introduced secular regulations and undermines the traditional patriarchal model of marriage established in Scripture. Christians must carefully consider the implications of such requirements and seek to uphold the biblical principles of marriage in the face of secular encroachment. Flee from any Pastor that requires government marriage license for marriage.

      Orthodox Christianity doesn't recognise state marriage - marriage is something that is done by a priest in a church between two Christians.

    For me, coming to believe in God the Creator was more about philosophy of the mind. Trying to understand how we come to know anything at all. What it means that we have language and that we can name things and see order in the chaos. Consciousness is a creative and divine quality. The fact that we can even have an idea like God is almost as much proof as I need. The fact that Christianity accurately reflects our relationship with the divine in almost every aspect I've ever had reason to ask about is enough for me to put my faith in it. Another way to explain what I mean is that, contrary to what Mr Murrow said, you need to look for (or be open to) truth past a scientific materialism in order to find God which is incredibly difficult for most modern people.
    final edit: Also, object-oriented software languages expanded my mind into understanding how hierarchical thinking works if our minds and how God absolutely must be at the top of all hierarchies of meaning or else they fall into absurdity. I do not believe the universe is absurd.

      Yes. Nothing wrong with people who find God through materialist explanations - that is great. It just seems that approach of materialist Christianity vs materialist new-atheists has run its course.

    Like your vids. However, I must say, I am comfortable with myself, to a degree. I have held my wife’s purse many times while she was shopping. I had many complements on the purse/s matching me. I would reply. No issue. No problem. Sometimes quite comical. Also in good jest. If, I am confident in myself, what would a purse hold? My wife is now dead. How I miss holding her purse.

    • @ManiphestoMen
      @ManiphestoMen  11 місяців тому +1

      Good point. I think that this is probably a very widespread reason for rejecting Christianity. Unfortunately the truth is that wherever you have religious organisations, you are going to have people who lie to use those organisations to their own benefit. This is born out by the fact that much of what we call Christianity in the west is clearly heretical to Orthodox Christian teaching. But it doesn't mean that the foundation is corrupt, just that anything good will always be exploited by bad people.

    Alaska is wired most times the redder the state politically the fewer unbelievers. I was confused to see Alaska listed at 31 percent non religious. ( Non religious doesn't mean atheist it can account for omni religious people or agnostic)

    Women and children are the only ones keeping the church alive.
    Men make their own choices based on what they find important, remember church is not a man's club, it is supposed to be a place where we go to feed and be fed on the word.
    Last time I checked the "word of God" was genderless.
    But I did read (in some other comments on this subject) this phrase, "a gospel for men by men." That speaks volumes!

    • @googleuser6635
      @googleuser6635 3 місяці тому

      And you can have it. Just don't expect me to waste my time with it.
      Women are not "keeping it alive". They are killing church. Without men, there would be no church. Any church. Without men, there is no church. It is just a women's social club.
      You are the problem!

    Sola Fide is emasculating. No man wants something handed to him on a silver plater. Reformed theology turns men into women on a metaphysical level, similarly to Islam. In contrast, the living Christian tradition of the Apostles teaches us that our Father will see our good works from heaven and pay each man his recompense. Faithfulness and loyalty are rewarded with the highest reward: Christ Himself indwelling in us, union with God, total transformation, Theosis.
