    I love vinegar for cleaning! I put lemon slices in a glass bottle then pour the vinegar inside and let it marry for one week. This cuts down the strong vinegar smell. When it's ready to use, I add a 1:1 ratio of the citrus vinegar and water into a spray bottle. Works wonders!

    • @MsHoneymoon93
      @MsHoneymoon93 7 років тому +15

      If you don't like the smell of vinegar try to add some essential oils to the mixture! :) That's what I do!

    • @sydneywands5214
      @sydneywands5214 7 років тому +9

      Don't forget vinegar is not a registered disinfectant. It only kills 80% of bacteria and does not kill the staphylococcus bacteria among others. Use another cleaner to properly disinfect your surfaces.

    • @shannon3375
      @shannon3375 7 років тому +10

      I didn't mention that I used it as a disinfectant, just general cleaning - windows, shower, laundry, even as a fruit and vegetable wash. Toilets, sinks, floors, counters etc. get treated with a proper disinfectant.

    • @alexreith4877
      @alexreith4877 7 років тому +37

      Sydney Wands Using disinfectants regularly only creates stronger bacteria and viruses. Unless you have an active infection in your household, or you bring in particularly gross stuff like animal products (especially factory farmed ones), or someone in your household has a compromised immune system, using antibacterial and disinfecting products only works to strengthen the germs and weaken your own immune system. That's why hospitals are literal breeding grounds for superbugs. Regular cleaning with vinegar or non-antibacterial soap, and a fair amount of elbow grease is just fine for most household cleaning tasks.

    • @shannon3375
      @shannon3375 7 років тому +9

      Alex Reith You are completely right. There is a thing as being or having things too clean. We disinfectant maybe once a week and use vinegar the rest of the time. We don't wear shoes in the house and we're very good about washing our hands. I can't even remember the last time any of us were sick. A bit of bacteria is a good thing :)

    Jenny, I’m here to reinforce your point about choosing a specific day of the week for cleaning and to share the benefit of reframing and adopting a positive mindset toward cleaning. I cook, clean, and do my laundry on Sunday. Why? Because it is an act of Extreme Self Care. I am caring for my home. It’s my sanctuary. I am caring for myself by reducing the stress throughout the following week by having nutritious meals handy and avoiding the dreaded question “What’s for dinner?” I enjoy ironing while watching a girly movie. Yes, I enjoy ironing! The motion of ironing can be quite meditative. Caring for my clothes is caring for myself. Plus having clothes in their place and ready to wear makes the start of my weekdays easy and pleasant. I have found that dedicating one specific day also helps me to refine my processes and my time on tasks has been reduced significantly so that I can enjoy relaxation on Sunday as well. I have found that an invitation to do something else on Sunday is a distraction that has consequences throughout the week. Therefore, I consider my Sunday as my sacred time for Extreme Self Care. It’s now a personal boundary that I practise for my overall wellbeing.

    It is so true that creating a habit makes it much easier! You don't even think about it. My favorite is to listen to music as well. I once worked as a chamber maid. Secret: to quickly get chemical-free and streek free mirrors take a towel dipped in warm water and wipe it in broad up or down strokes over mirror. Then use the dry part of the towel and do the same. The result should look perfect. If not, it will be because there is chemical residue on the mirror. Don't worry, wash this away with washing up liquid. I generally use eco friendly washing up liquid on most surfaces as it is better for health and the environment. 🙂

    When I moved into my first apartment, to safe space and money I used only 2 products to clean. I make up a solution of 1:1 vinegar and water, with 10 drops teatree in a spray bottle and I keep one bottle in my kitchen and one in my bathroom. The other product is a toilet cleaner for that extra sparkle. The vinegar cleaner is very safe for most surfaces and environments and leaves the room feeling very airy and fresh ❤

    We don't mind cleaning our flat. It has become a contemplative exercise, being mindful to do the most efficient job we can, and like you we share the tasks.
    While my partner cleans the bathroom, I tidy away belongings, (usually my partner's!)dust surfaces and move our few pieces of furniture to the side for my partner to come through and vacuum and put things back.
    Then we usually share the kitchen cleaning. I cook, she cleans on a daily basis. Once a week we share the kitchen jobs, usually on a Friday and just nefore we go to collect our organic vegetable basket from a nearby market garden initiative. The fridge is then ready and wiped down for the next week's food.
    Every two months we add in the 6 windows we have, sharing them out to 3 each. If theres some major garden work to do, I will cover the windows while my partner gets on with a different job.
    We've been in our current home just over a year, and I have more or less found where things belong for most efficient access, use and storage. ALL the organisation is my job, my partner is hopeless at it. She just puts things back but I decide where they go:)

    *Jenny, a wonderful light spirit you and Sadia both convey in your presentations!* ... _and an exquisite aesthetic feel to boot! I’m very happy to see you all collaborating ... our Zeitgeist, alas, is dour and daunting, and many challenges lie ahead as the elites begin to squeeze us into a mould. Resourcefulness, minimalism, solidarity, inner and outer markers of unassailable freedom: these are among the foremost virtues to cultivate in the difficult times ahead, and that inner light, of course: here Samatha (Tranquillity) or Vipassana (Insight) meditation will be to many of us incalculably important. The Buddha, when he advised people to meditate, said go and do jhana... the verb ‘jayate’ was used here (to burn with a steady flame): for the mind to become unbelievably tranquil, peaceful and happy! A noble enterprise, since there is not an atom of volatility; it remains forever, only deepening in its strength! I wish you that Bliss!_

    This might sound weird, but of all the places I prefer to clean, the bathroom is my top choice. That's not to say that I'm in love with cleaning the bathroom but I feel it is the area that I clean best. I have a betta fish, and he requires a water bowl change every 1 to1-1/2 weeks, so I schedule my bathroom cleaning on the same day, and it helps me to keep me on track. Still trying to find a way to keep my other spaces clean, but I think a large part of that requires some decluttering. So, I'll be re-watching more of your minimalist/decluttering videos to inspire me. Thank you, as always! -a bientot

    Ah, without kids it has to be crazy easy to keep your apartment clean... Jealous!

      I've just watched Darci Isabella's channel, and she's a minimalist with 10 kids. 10 kids of her own. Worth a gander , if you want some light-hearted entertainment and shoot-from-the-hip usable tips for parents. 😊

      I'll have a look, though I'm pretty sure it's too late for us. I can't imagine getting rid of all the toys (and we keep getting more and more). Also, how do you make kids put away their stuff? ;)

      With 6 kids regularly making/crafting/building/playing in our small home, we make sure they toys they have are ones they love, and they are responsible for keeping them in good condition and cleaning them up. I guess the responsibility for less might help ? Having too much is overwhelming for everyone. Good luck!

      I come from a family of hoarders so it's like a revelation to me that you might not want as much stuff as possible. When we started the whole parenting thing, we were like: Hey, guys, we're having a baby and we'll accept anything you'll give us. And so it came: heaps and heaps of clothes, many times more than we needed. Huge boxes of toys. All in a 40-meter apartment O_O When the second baby came, it became too much, we started to put the boxes away in our parents' attic (hoarders don't throw things away, mind you ;)). I will get the hang of this minimalism thing!

    I don’t consider myself minimalist, but seeing your videos I have a lot of routines that fit into minimalist lifestyle. One that I pray is to no have unnecessary storage, here is why: if you have a empty drawer you have the “need” to fill it with something. Less storage options, less junk you accumulate.

    Very true about how the place you first put something becomes its home. I noticed that when we moved. Things got put away where they fit. Only now, two years later, I'm looking at where things are and wondering "why do we keep that there? It would be more efficient to move it to here."

    My cleaning tip; do it at the time of the day when you have the most energy. For me that's early morning before the sun comes up. For other people it might be in the evening.

    Oh, de här tipsen var precis vad jag behövde. Har inte städat på några veckor eftersom jag inte mått så bra, men igår fick jag äntligen tummen ur och började städa. Plockar nästintill aldrig upp efter mig, men det är något som jag måste börja med.Älskar din youtubekanal
