    Really shows hitting your children can be a double edged sword. Most black parents don’t set a line on what deserved a hit or what deserved just a few words. You shouldn’t be beat for breathing too loud, looking frustrated, or acting a certain way. Acting like a child. Beatings lead to aggression and fear of their parents. Fears of consequences. Fearing the one person you’re supposed to be able to run to. By beating, they set you on a path to future issues, for a quick fix in time.

    Abuse is abuse, whether the intent is good or bad.
    It may have helped you, but all it did for me was make me suicidal and give me childhood scars I’m not sure how to heal now.
    Nevertheless, this is a beautiful poem.

      i mean, it really depends on what u got 'abused' for. my sister will do dumb and harmful stuff, my mom will spank her to teach her a lesson and it works, but if your mother did it very regularly for dumb reasons then thats abuse. i really hope u get better

      @@artsyart9930 you shouldn't have to hit a kid to teach them. you can discipline without hurting. discipline isn't punishment. hitting kids causes trauma.

    • @artsyart9930
      @artsyart9930 Рік тому

      @@princesshex it depends on the situation. some kids will be a spank in their life to be taught a lesson, and im saying spanking kids in the bums are okay, if u use the right thing. hitting them with ur fists everywhere on their body is abuse. spanking can also be an abuse IF you use a tool that can actually cause violence to them. i was taught many things getting spanked, but i know my mom did it to teach me a lesson.

    It’s usually hair pulls, whoopings, head slams or hair straightener burns. I just tell everyone I’m clumsy. Beautiful poetry.

    I feel this. I've also felt the majority of adults in their life whooping me in some kind of way though for ridiculous reasons (one time not for smiling and telling the person "I love you").

    dont compare love and anger and say they have similarities. I was beat as a child now on my medical record I have 2 suicide attempts, multiple self harm accounts, AND depression+anxiety with multiple psych evaluations. I have been taught there is no fine line between anger in love if you do it while saying “i do it because i love you”… Abuse is Abuse wether compassion is involved or not. A white woman or a black woman no child should be put under a hand, belt, or switch.

    It’s really sad to me when I see people using beautiful gifts to promote agendas that have historically never benefited us on any level…using their beautiful gifts to promote their own abuse. You do not prevent the world from abusing your child by abusing them first in the home. Black people we have to do better, I’m currently reading “Why whuppings won’t save Black American” by Stacey Patton and it is so worth the read.
    I applaud them for speaking their mind and passionately speaking their truth, but ultimately it’s promoting black parents abusing their power in a word that is already abusing their power against us. Regardless of my mother’s intent, her whoopings were abuse, abuse with the intention to save me from this world and country but nonetheless abuse.

      On one hand I could see this poem being like…”look at the other side” or trying to give reasoning and grace to why most parents whooped us but ultimately from how the poem ended “mama knows best” shows no repentance or acknowledgement of outdated tactics of discipline that is truly just violence, frustration and lack of proper parental strategies. I don’t like that.

    I got the other half of this, my mom refrained from whooping us because my dad did it, but the one time my mom did hit me I took it seriously because she tried to refrain from it. Nevertheless I still got it.

    This poem almost addressed the issue of beating as wrong but they have been well schooled by the system of beating….they can’t see that as wrong even if it means killing them to have them buried by them that say we love you as they kill them….

    Ok not white. Im saying right now that beatings leave people with severe trauma. The fact that these guys are joking or casually talking about beatings disturbs me. I was linked to this video through a friend and am disgusted. I never appreciated being hit by my parents and it is a big deal to me and was wrong on so many levels.
