Congratulations!!! I have been following every episode for the last 5 1/2 years as when I was retaining I wanted to restore a 1968-1973 911 (I got the Porsche bug at age 10). After looking at your videos and seeing the level of detail that it take to make things right, I decided that if I ever find the right car I will follow your restoration steps. Thank you so much for documenting this process.

Mike - what an impressive startup. Your patience to get things completely right is so impressive. The engine sounded great from the very first ignition. It’s hard for people to appreciate all the small (and large) setbacks in a project like this. I appreciate you sharing some of them to give people insight on what the real process is like. Oh - and 5,000 hours! Wow! What dedication. Congratulations!

One very few of us have. I also think, despite your incredible finise, the patience is the other half of the puzzle. They are fantastic skills to hold together. Fantastic!! Mike, I was restoring a 944 (not to this extent of course) and the timing sensor bracket was broken. I got it finally sorted and the car still would not start!! Finally realized that the ECU was trash. Hunted for another one for that particular year (1988) which was quite difficult. Found one for a decent price, slapped it in the car and it started right up. The joy/relief/excitement was almost as good as watching your car start. Has it been 7 years? Absolutely fabulous!!

What is the downside to not using Sta-bil? Have had vehicles from 1923 and up, have never used Sta-bil and never had a problem. Have mostly heard it is snake oil.

      Hello DH
Its basically a chemistry thing.. Stabil does a couple things for our modern fuels.
One is to help preserve its longevity as some of these old cars sit during the winter and for other various reasons. Rancid fuel it really hard on the engines. the other benefit is helping to neutralize the caustic effects of the modern methanol blends. These blends are caustic to zinc , zinc die cast, and rubber seals /diaphragms. Old fuels were more petroleum pure and had lead as a lubricant in them when these cars were originally manufactured. Stabile is not a cure all for the modern destructive fuels but it does give some edge in preserving and neutralizing its effects on zincs and rubbers

If I wasn't so passionate about her she would have surely been gone a Long time ago.
A deep passion I would guess the key to a successful marriage=)

So pleased for you Mike - that was the milestone moment of your restoration.
You must be as pleased as punch despite those last few annoying niggles that showed up. But it was ever thus!
You must be itching to get it out on the road..
    Well done!!
