Yeah I gotta tell you, I've bought my last animal hair shaving brush. I just can't ignore the animal cruelty issues that come with humans using animals for profit. So I am really happy that there are good performance synthetic brushes out there. By the way, the first synthetic brush that I tried was the brush from The Body Shop, and that brush is useless imo. Don't be dissuaded from trying synthetic if that brush is the first one you try, people. There are much better synthetic brushes out there.
Apparently badger in China are plentiful, to the point of being considered agricultural pests. Chinese being frugal, not only harvest the hair for brushes, but also actually EAT the badger meat. Nobody complains about boar brushes, since they not only use the hair for a multitude of brushes, and also produce porkchops and tan the hide for driving gloves. Nothing goes to waste.
@@azshooter348 I have heard this argument before, that badger are considered pests in China. Though this might technically be true, I have not been able to find any good proof or documentation to support the notion that this would mean that no badgers are being bred in captivity. And considering the price that some brush manufacturers are able to take for a single badger brush, I think it is slightly naive to believe that no one would start large scale breeding of badgers to make lots of money from badger hair. Brush manufacturers will also want a solid and stable supply of hair/knots of high quality. Boars may be different, in that they are probably bred primarily for food, and that the other resources just add to the profitability of the breeding. But then that is reflected in the price, boar hair brushes are much cheaper than badger hair brushes. This doesn't mean that boards aren't suffering in captivity though. Anyway, my point is that the synthetic brushes are now so good, that there is no actual need to buy brushes made from animal hair. And that, is a good thing to people who are concerned about animal welfare.
Dude!!!! You are the comedian of shaving, and I double checked to see if i was subbed all the way, and I am. I am so glad I found your channel and I have to say that you are like the dad of shaving!!! No wonder why I like shaving now. You really inspired me to like the daily routine of shaving!! You make me want to dig the old cartrage razor out again and use it!! I have a few Jelette razors and a Shick razor. I have been using my high end electric ones but one of these days, I am going to have to slow down and do a shave with a cartrage razor. Oh boy!!! Those were the days actually i don’t know if I told you, but I remember shaving for the first time, and that is exactly what dad showed me how to shave with. I learned on Cartrage and safty razors. The electric came later on.
Made me laugh when you went "should I lick it?" and went for it for a sec, haha! Btw I tried my very own Fatboy out today at the setting "5" and wow did they make things to last way before I was born. There's just nothing new that performs that well, and this bad boy is nearly sixty years old (it's a 1960 F-4).
The Fatboy and Slim Adjustable are two of the best DE razors ever made. The Gillette Tech is also a great razor. You just can't go wrong with the vintage Gillette DE razors. Why Gillette doesn't start up manufacturing of DE razors again is beyond me. They're letting millions of dollars or revenue pass right on by. Smh.
@@SinatraLennon I wouldn't dare to disobey the teachings of my shaving guru! (Will go forth and procure some, post haste!) I just realized that I have their lavender hand soap. Does this make me a "made man"?
I have a product in my stash that is strongly mentholated: It's Scream Cream non-foaming shaving gel. It is in a squeeze-bottle labeled "ultra sensitive", which I think doesn't make much sense, granted the copious amounts of menthol in it. The stuff is pricey but it works fine for me. For body shaving, I prefer soap lather or lather made with Palmolive shaving cream, but when it comes to my facial hair, I don't need to lather up my entire face. I have a ladystache and facial hair on the chin and the neck, but most of it is on the right side. When I was younger, plucking often did the job. Except for the ladystache, the hairs were so thick and deeply-rooted that it was torturous to pluck them out. So, I take a little of that cream, put it on places where there is hair, let it sit for a while, enjoy the cooling effect and then proceed to shave. And, guess what, I shave the ladystache against the grain. It works well for me. What I love is that, with a safety razor, I know where the blade is. I'm not the only woman with facial hair, but I know at least two who use a Venus razor, and the wide head with plenty of rubber around it makes it virtually impossible to tell where your lip begins. The ladystache may be the coarsest hair I have on my body, nowhere else does the hair chirp that distinctively when the razor blade cuts through it. By the way, the website for the Scream Cream shaving products also has a photo of a DE razor -- which the safety bar screwed in upside down.
Scream Cream?! Now, that I have to try. I’m also with you on the use of a DE and knowing where the blade is. I’ve seen my wife’s lady cartridge razor. That thing seems to be mostly rubber! Maybe I should try to shave my face with one of those some time...
Nice vid, mate. I would never buy a badger brush, purely because of the cruelty issue. I did recently, however, purchase a Vie-Long (pronounced vee-long) 4312 Extra Black Horse Hair Professional Shaving Brush. It's breaking in very nicely but the thing with horse hair is the initial smell when it gets wet. It smells like, wait for it, wet horse! The aroma is known as the Vie-Long Pong. I would love to see you trying one for the first time, straight out of the packet. Like badger and boar, you need to give it a good soak before applying the soap. Some people wash the brush in shampoo and conditioner initially to avoid the smell but I think it's all part of the charm. The smell eases with time anyway. After shaving, it's best to dry it gently on a towel and then use a comb to ease the hairs back into position. This avoids a hole developing in the loft (no, not the one on top of your house, the brush one). Finish it off with a cool blow-dry with a hairdryer and you will be done. I hereby challenge you to accept the Vie-Long Pong Shave and Blow-dry Challenge, sir! Choose your brush, take six steps back, turn and shave! May the best man win.
That’s a heck of a lot of work for that horse hair brush. Combing it too? Should you use a curry comb? I don’t know if I could use one straight out of the package. It might knock me down with the smell!

OK, I'll let the cat outta the bottle, since I've also posted a truly GREAT menthol aftershave recipe on the Badger& Blade website. I like balm aftershaves, but they're boring. Gillette Coolwave is cooling and refreshing, Aqua Velva smells like "old man", but in combination with a lotion & some menthol, it's everything you've ever dreamed of. Mix 2/3 Coolwave to 1/3 Aqua Velva, then use it to mix in equal parts with a generic 'Mens 3 in 1 lubricating lotion' (or any hand lotion). Toss in a little menthol and shake well. There's nothing else quite like it. If you love menthol, you'll be impressed with this stuff.

Little bit of karma? due the old gold razor wink wink .lol
Yep. Goldie got me just a little bit this time. That’ll teach me to taunt the FatBoy-less!
Margaritas in the Arctic didn't get him. Cryogen didn't get him, not even Cold Fuzion, Chella Cool did the trick.
I done got got! Yeah, that Chella truly whooped my behind.
How about you try Gillette sensitive cool shaving gel?
Honestly thought you were in your 30"s , I have a few soaps & vintage Gillettes but i mostly use a 59 fatboy and Barbasol original now you have me wanting KFC??? haven't had it in forever thanks and thanks for another great video
KFC does sound good right now! I also haven’t eaten there in a long time. People may frown on fast food, but every now and then go for it! I grew up in the fast food 70’s, so its in my DNA!
Vintage Fatboys are going for 230 Aussie dollars on eBay right now November 2022 as we speak
Kevin Mccalister. Funny joke.
Ouch! Oh there is actually a guy on UA-cam who's a gamer and he does occasionally do shaving videos. But he's not entertaining but I suppose some UA-cam shavers just wanna do a simple review.
I’ll do a gaming livestream with shaving cream on my face the whole time and just play Atari 2600 games form the early 80’s. A goldmine!
@@SinatraLennon Haha! Go for it
Wintergreen...ewwww!
Ha! Not a fan. Give me peppermint!
Liquid silk is sex lube on Amazon... Makes sense though
Synthetic badgers 😂
And robotic otters!
This is what it says....
Liquid silk is a luxury, non tacky, water based personal lubricant which will assist and enhance sexual intercourse, intimate massage and foreplay. ... Liquid silk is luxurious, touch sensitive and designed to reduce the risk of breaking skin.
An Italian would pronounce Chella as Kella, and that's just one tiny vowel change from what it seems to be: a Killa!
BTW, it seems that liquid silk is a wate- based lubricant with silk protein - so that your BBS can be even smoooooother.
Kella huh?! Dang. Guess the folks at Phoenix thought it was CH-ella too, huh? Thanks for that.
@@SinatraLennon Well, Italian Cella is pronounced like English ’Chella’ so we'll just say it 's a double pun.
That Barbasol can popping up is not getting any cooler...
It’s getting a lot cooler!
Count me in on that Fatboy delivery service :)
