Yes, At the end it was a back and forth fight. Pakistan had upper hand in the beginning. The emotions were running high at both ends that developed a psychological pressure over players. Aamir did not realize that he was caught with his own trick. He also admitted later in one of his UA-cam videos. Rest is all history, but even today it is one of the most memorable matches. Amir Sohail was playing well in the start. But then he sledged Venkatesh Prasad. Prasad took his wicket the very next ball. What a scene that was. I screamed OUT so loudly that I was not able to speak for a while. From that time we were able to tighten the bowling attack. I will never forget that moment in my life.

the happiness in the faces in indian fans was more when Miadad got out as compared to when India won in the end. with him getting out it was end of an era of Pakistan's dominance over India.
To be honest it is always very difficult to win when half of your batting line does not know how to face average deliveries. When Mushtaq Ahmed comes after Rashid Latif you can imagine batting is collapsing. Untill and unless you select a non wicket throwing batting line. Untill and unless you select a batting line that has good strike rate. You can never win against better teams. They are usually better because they discuss and resolve their main issues in all segments of game. Even today Pakistan team has favouretism. Merit merit and merit along with good set of plan and team unity and act of taking responsibility can put us back on winning track.
This was quarter final not the final. Which was my happiest moment of the year but in the next we lost to Srilanka in Kolkata that was my saddest moment of that year or say decade. Srilanka won world cup that year.

Just when you wonder from 120-1 in 20 to 93 needed off last 10 bhai itne run kyun chod diye and then at 7:05 you see miandad 23*(52) even after hitting a 4. But still the match was very close and my heart was pumping till Raju got rashid latif as he he was the only one who could have won the match for pak. I remember even after so many years we were all jumping in front of the tv when he got out.
The next day newspaper had Javed's famous comments "nobody could get the old bloke out in this World Cup" referring to himself. I guess he was in a delusion of a 'Test World Cup'. The most impressive thing about this match was jadeja and kumble's onslaught to waqar who was literally unplayable with the old ball in the 90's, yes this was after his back injury in 94 after which he lost a bit of his pace but he was still quick and reversed the ball well, another thing that's worth noting here is just the absence of Akram made it an even game between the two teams,
1992: With Just 2 Wickets down, Javed was at one stage 34(100). He basically gifted India the game while the wickets started to fall from other end due to rising run rate. 1996: He is 39. He cant really run/field. Pak have a dream start and then a slump. Javed simply starts to help India again by batting like its mid 80s. Problem was his idea of playing safe was to defend 3 out of 6 balls in the over. He did the same here. And had he batted a little positively here, Latif might have made game go down the wire. Fact that Pak werent bowled out and still good 40 runs short is just laughable. Imran mentions, Pak should have played 5 batsman. And he is definitely referring to Javed. Taking the game deep with unamanagable Run Rate doesnt work out always. Unless you have a Young Inzi playing innings of his life in 1992 WC SF. I am pretty sure Pak would have lost that game if Miandad didnt get the company of Inzi. That game was gone too

Watched this match in 9th standard... didn't knew much about the match situation and that dangerous Pakistani fighting spirit. However, I remember that all the while we were thinking it's a matter of time for India's victory and waiting to celebrate. Now when I look back at this match...231/5 in 42.4 overs.... Oh my god ! They were very much in the hunt and we didn't realise this back then ! Also, it was this match, ten years later to that famous Sharjah six of 1986 by Javed that India finally broke out of the fear of Pak and the mental setback that last ball 6 of Sharjah had. On both occasions Javed Miandad was the last hope. In 1986 he did but in 1996, as a 38 year old he couldn't !! Age does catch up and also, we played exceedingly well. But still the match was very close and my heart was pumping till Raju got rashid latif as he he was the only one who could have won the match for pak. 1992: With Just 2 Wickets down, Javed was at one stage 34(100). He basically gifted India the game while the wickets started to fall from other end due to rising run rate.
1996: He is 39. He cant really run/field. Pak have a dream start and then a slump. Javed simply starts to help India again by batting like its mid 80s. Problem was his idea of playing safe was to defend 3 out of 6 balls in the over. He did the same here. And had he batted a little positively here, Latif might have made game go down the wire. Fact that Pak werent bowled out and still good 40 runs short is just laughable.
Imran mentions, Pak should have played 5 batsman. And he is definitely referring to Javed. Taking the game deep with unamanagable Run Rate doesnt work out always.
Unless you have a Young Inzi playing innings of his life in 1992 WC SF. I am pretty sure Pak would have lost that game if Miandad didnt get the company of Inzi. That game was gone too

And Hitting a six of last ball should not be the reason for anyone's career to be destroyed. It was the board who stopped backing him. Many bowlers conceded boundaries of last ball to lose matches even at that time. Losing WC games is a different ball game. Miandad specifically dropped the game into Indias hands in 1992. At that time Pakistani Team was far better than Indian, people were surprised on Indian win here in Pakistan, Wasim Akram was also absent in this match for some unknown reasons,till date. Poor politics in Pakistani Cricket always produced poor results. Great player like Javed Miandad was dropped before this Tournament on many occasions and Suddenly he was named for this World Cup and during this World Cup in most of Matches he batted lower down the order getting little exposure to batting and then suddenly putting under Tons of pressure in this match. Watched this match in 9th standard... didn't knew much about the match situation and that dangerous Pakistani fighting spirit.
However, I remember that all the while we were thinking it's a matter of time for India's victory and waiting to celebrate.
Now when I look back at this match...231/5 in 42.4 overs.... Oh my god ! They were very much in the hunt and we didn't realise this back then !
Also, it was this match, ten years later to that famous Sharjah six of 1986 by Javed that India finally broke out of the fear of Pak and the mental setback that last ball 6 of Sharjah had.
