I plan on switching from big box store bagged mulch to local garden/landscaping center bulk compost delivery this year as well. Excited to see how much it improved my soil!
Living in an apartment makes it quite challenging to be a 'true' gardener. I did make our own right outside our door (tiny porch) and on one of our windows by attaching window boxes for plants, but NOTHING compared to your caliber of gardening. Since the sun hits that part for most of the day, most of our plants are cacti and succulents. We live in Miami, so you can just imagine the sun and heat. To make up for the lack of space and harsh weather conditions, we do have a collection of indoor plants, although elevated so our cats don't get a hold of them. Also, we bought a natural fertilization over a year ago but, to be honest, it smelled like dead fish and we just ended up tossing it before our neighbors complained about the stink.🙈 I AM taking notes from you as we are buying a home this year and our garden will take center stage, given that we have been so limited here.
@@Daydreamologist oh my gosh! This is all so EXCITING! I love that you are making the most of your small space - I’ve even grown herbs inside on my kitchen counter. Your ideas prove where there is a will there is a way 🙌 I’ve got a fun video in the works about using a laundry basket to grow food! You’ll have to check that out. Happy Gardening I’m so thankful to have you here. 🌻🌻🌻
@@dianesgardeninspiration Yes, I've had to do what I have to do. I love nature, therefore I love plants. So, I won't let space stop me. ;) Oh, I can't wait for THAT video! I'll have my eyes peeled, then. :)
Hi Diane, Hope you are well. Happy New Year this video was very good fun and you’re not going to believe it. I didn’t really take much notice about the zone things. It’s probably why I’ve lost so many plants. I think I’m gonna have to pull my socks up. it’s very costly if you’re buying the wrong plants Thank you for the good fun. Sending you lots of love from Ireland to beautiful California Nicholai Chris and Scooter ❤️🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸
Hello! You’re so right-knowing your gardening zone isn’t always common knowledge. I’m so glad you enjoyed this video; it was a fun one to make! Thank you for sending love all the way from beautiful Ireland 🇮🇪☘️. Wishing you Chris and Scooter a wonderful New Year’s Day! 🎩🎉”
And like Diane said… many nurseries try and sell us plants not suited for our zones. I guess they are trying to maximize their revenue but I wish they didn't do that. So Diane is correct… its so important to know our Zone!
@ Right! It amazes me…a few things that I spent money on didn’t even have a chance with our heat. I wonder if the people placing the orders for some garden centers don’t know about gardening zones🤷♀️
Morris Nursery sells plants NOT for our zones. LOL it even says it on the tags! Hydrangeas are one of them. So I think they know… One of these days I am going to ask them about this and see what they say. Maybe I am missing something and will learn something new. 🤔 Liz
tomato idea: If it were me, I'd build a trellis along the side of the house for the tomatoes to grow on. It would require some extra time to train the plants, but I think it'd be a cool look. I'd only get grow bags if you're thinking about moving the plants while they're still growing (ex. moving from greenhouse outside or vice versa in fall). Otherwise, I'd stick with some kind of wood container for ascetic reasons. Looks like it's a drive-way though so IDK how much space you need to keep clear.
@@GoodShepherdBandFan I love the idea of a trellis! Yes, it’s a driveway but we really don’t use it so I can come out from the wall as much as I’d like. Thank you so much for your input, I really appreciate it. 💚💚💚
Diane, when you said no tomatoes I said, “WHAT?!?!😂 I immediately thought we’ve got to find this girl more sun to grow those tomatoes! Then you showed the full sun spot; wonderful! I’ve grown tomatoes in big cattle feed containers that have done well. I think a raised bed on that wall would be pretty. Be sure to use soil that will hold on to the water. I know you’ll use drip irrigation which will be great. I’m so ready for a homegrown garden tomato!🍅 Happy New Year!🎆🎈🎊 💚
Right! It’s one of those things that if you’ve gotten to enjoy homegrown tomatoes- you know exactly what I’m talking about. 😋 And for two years I have failed at growing tomatoes ☹️ Great suggestion with the soil and cattle feed containers 👍 I’m trying to think this out but, like you I already can’t wait 🍅❤️😋 Have a blessed New Year’s Day Patty 🎉
@@GardenHappy Thank you Liz 😍 Oh the possibilities! Right? I’m glad that I’ve got some time to think about it before it’s time to plant tomatoes. I wish you a beautiful and peaceful New Year’s Day Liz 🫶🥰🎊
