I think many fanfics downplay that aspect of the trope, but I think it would be interesting to see more content that highlights the reactions of others and makes them an integral part of the story.
I read a really interesting Friends to Lovers, where one pair was *really* dense about their feelings (mutual pining), so another pair got into a fake relationship in order to somehow convince the first pair to get together. Well, the fake relationship turned real due to also having mutual pining and actual ~communication~. Eventually the first pair got together, the second pair communicated and turned their fake relationship into a real one, and it was found out that a 5th wheel friend decided to make a bet with someone else that she could matchmake both sets of pairs - thus being the overall person responsible for both pairings to actually get together.
Actually, I read a fake relationship fic that kind of went into it. Character A didn’t want to be the only one in his friend group without a date to a wedding they were invited to, so he called up Character B, who owed him a favor, and they agreed to fake a relationship for the wedding, then have an amicable breakup and go back to normal. However, the other characters, especially A’s daughter-A was a single dad-were really happy to see A finally finding love again after the death of his daughter’s mother, and it was starting to get on B’s conscience, since he was realizing that breaking up this fake relationship would break the other characters’ hearts-not to mention his own, since he was starting to catch real feelings for A. Eventually, B pulled A aside for a talk and explained the situation. Fortunately, A felt the same, so they decided to just make their relationship real. At the very end of the fic, A’s best friend congratulated them on getting together for real and revealed that she’d known from the beginning that they were faking it, but kept quiet for the kid’s sake. It was a really sweet fic, and I like to go back to it whenever I need a pick-me-up.
If my parents knew juuuuuuust how much angst fics I read they'd just go "well no wonder you're depressed!" lol. My favorites are often from Kingdom Hearts. Its ripe angst pickings over there

“Sharing a Bed.” Me: “Okay your not touching me and I’m not touching you. One of us is going to sleep on the floor and it’s not going to be me godammit.”
I would rather sleep on the couch or floor than share a bed. It's so weird in reader inserts cause i would always be like, you get the bed, i just steal the pillow and sleep on the floor
Am I the only one who loves these romance tropes, but instead it's with a platonic relationship..? Like CEO/Assistant, but the assistant is practically that elder siblings that have to tell the CEO literally everything, like "Go to sleep!" or "You forgot your lunch!" Which would go nice with the Enemies to Lovers tropes, instead they became family... Found-Family is kinda underrated... 👀

Me: ...Writing Them: Is it gay boy fanfiction again? AND I CAN NOT EXPRESS THE WAY THEY SAY THE WORDS "Gay Boy Fanfiction" every. single. time. And I just made the comment for the people who do like it, as well.

Your mom is so relatable with the main character death and the miscommunication
I mean I find myself shouting at the tv just because of these things
You brave brave soul, I would rather die than let my parents know I read fanfic
The fact that reading fanfic is the least shameful thing I’ve done means so much
When your parents read fanfics:
I mean when I move out and have my own life I guess I wouldn't mind them knowing
Why? Both my parents know and they could not care less.
If my parents knew juuuuuuust how much angst fics I read they'd just go "well no wonder you're depressed!" lol.
My favorites are often from Kingdom Hearts. Its ripe angst pickings over there
lmao this is a mood
sdjfksl same
Omg yeah there's such good angst in kh fics. I'm not a huge fan of sad stuff but sometimes you just need a good Vanitas pov full of angst and body horror
Ooh I've been reading KH fanfiction recently though I try to look for the funnier stuff lol
The Haikyuu fandom has like a holy trinity of angsty fanfics :,)
i knew once she immediately said “i like that one” to enemies to lovers that her taste is IMMACULATE
Decided to watch these videos again after the news: Coley, your mom was such a sweetheart ❤️🩹
Coley really said I ain't afraid of death today
I just love how her mom is super straight forward with the tropes, bless your mom 😄
Your mom sounds like a cool lady--love hearing her reactions: "Fluff, it's too much," "meh", "yeeeah, it's still drinking".
Imagine love triangle but... in the end all three get together in a poly relationship- that would be cool-
Anytime I read a love triangle I *always* want it to end up like that.
When I was reading Twilight and (spoiler) Edward offered Bella to be with him and Jacob so she could babies without they accidentaly kill her (spoiler ended) I was sure that was going to happen
That's the only way I would read/watch something with that trope
Kieran, Mark and Christina from Shadowhunters (the books, not the tv show, they weren’t in it at all) have this!
Netflix has this series, it's called you me her, and has happy ending !!
“Sharing a Bed.”
Me: “Okay your not touching me and I’m not touching you. One of us is going to sleep on the floor and it’s not going to be me godammit.”
SOMEONES SLEEPING ON THE COUCH,
*and it ain’t gonna be me*
I would rather sleep on the couch or floor than share a bed.
So much! I love platonic versions of tons of these. The romance versions can be kinda boring sometimes.
@@shadow_shine3578 I know right!
Found-family and platonic relationships are pretty underrated sometimes... 👀✨
@@reilynn9541 that's why I write it! I'm also ace, but I do like a good romance. I'm a hurt comfort writer.
Found family is a top tier trope
@@nkechi4635 Where's the lies, though- 🤚😩
Edit: Dang- The emoji looks kinda weird- 🥲
I literally only read the title and felt the secondhand embarrassment 😂😂😂 also you saying abo is just werewolves kills me
My parents know I read fanfic and they don't have a direct problem with it since I don't usually read smut, but when i Write it they're like-
Them: What are you doing?
Me: ...Writing
Them: Is it gay boy fanfiction again?
AND I CAN NOT EXPRESS THE WAY THEY SAY THE WORDS "Gay Boy Fanfiction" every. single. time. Because YES IT IS GAY BOY FANFICTION BUT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH TIME THIS TAKES-
I can hear the tone they're using when they say "Gay Boy Fanfiction"
PFTTTTT-
my mom knows I read ff but she doesn't know 90% of it is gay cause we're muslim and I would die-
Though I rarely read smut, I read fluff/angst cause most of the time I want to see more of my favorite friendships/duos, sometimes I actually ship them and sometimes I just see them as friends. Either way, I will never tell my mom I read gay ff. Not even for a billion dollars-
@@Malakai__WeLoveYouMafumafu SAME LIKE-
'What book are you reading?'
'It's something called flowers from 1970!'
THAT'S WHY I DONT GO ON WATTPAD ANYMORE. I always have an extra tab open to switch between them quickly if I ever hear their footsteps
PLSSS💀
fun fact, in vino veritas is latin for "in wine, there's truth"
also friends to lovers is my favorite trope by far and i'm _so_ happy she put it in s
Rest in peace Coley’s mom, you will be missed, the fans loved your rankings 🙏🏼
It would be so fun to do this with my mom-
She had deviantart and read smut fan-fictions before I was even born so-
YOU SHOULD AND TELL US HOW IT GOES OMG
My parents are literally both in their 40s-50s-- they definitely did not have or do either of those things so they are never figuring out the stuff I read ever lol
Ah. The fanfic generation has procreated
Lol you're a second-gen fan then! I must be older than you because I know DeviantArt didn't exist when I was born, so my parents couldn't go on it before I was born, but they went to cons (even helped run a few) and read fan zines (like, physical ones on paper).
Ooooh boi
Lmao ur mom be dissin all my favorite tropes. I live for angst
you only live for angst cuz you relate with the character and in a way mirror your lyfe style/choices
@@edarddragon idk man I live for angst cause I like seeing my favourite characters suffer
@@draila7022 Same here, haha. >:)
Yeah,Angst is love,angst is life

I can’t imagine TRYING to explain to my mom about fanfic tropes
It was already hard enough explaining to her about animes I watch 💀
The "No" from your mom was adorable, same for when you said "you like happy?"
Coley's mom: I hate angst
Also Coley's mom: enemies to lovers, YEAH-
there's an author in Poland that names her books after fanfic tropes. The first one is named "Hurt comfort" and the second "Angst with a happy ending"
Idk why I am writing it here, I just think that it's cute
When will she publish "Major Character Death" ???
Probably a couple books before she publishes the ABO triology
@@DLCS-2 probably a little bit before she publishes "Love Triangle"

Coley's Mom: how are they going to navigate that?
Skipper: Kowalski, Navigation!!
Thank you
@@Hana_HUr welcome
She’s really about the drama and the social ramifications. Cool insight for her likes and interests.
"if you break up, you can never be friends again"
My brother and his ex would like to disagree with that statement
when she put fake relationship and friend to lovers in S I knew she was cultured
can we appreciate coley’s little evil laugh towards the end when they were talking about major character death
She really said a slowburn is boring-😭
Edit: I get it I get it, you guys find it boring and that's okay, not everyone likes seeing the slow development of not liking each other in that way, to the soft moments where one of their hearts skips for the first time, to where it starts happening more often, and then to the doubt and uncertainty, and then to the confession and the conclusion...but I like it! And I just made the comment for the people who do like it, as well.
IKR SLOWBURN IS LITERALLY MY FAV TROPE
imo liking slow burn depends on your tolerance for bullshit like the characters being interrupted in the middle of a bonding convo and yeah lol. the payoff's great usually tho so 👍
shes not... wrong
i have adhd so slow burns for me (unless it has a really interesting and captivating plot) are just a no go
It could get annoying sometimes, maybe because I’m impatient lol. :p
"I want to see how they navigate"
I'll remember that the next time someone asks me why I like this.
'It's kinda like werewolves' to explain A/B/O is hilarious. Barely scratching the surface there, and thank god too 😂
It's really cool that I can tell your mom is usually a plot-driven person when she reads a story. Like I can tell she wants a good plot and some conflict and see how the characters resolve them. It's awesome
I love the fact she put enemies to lovers and Arrange marriage in a tire but angst in d lol

'huddle for warmth'
that's just my entire book summarised in three words
lol
my dad asked my sister what fan fiction was cause he over heard the term somewhere and but she didn't want to explain it to him so she sent him over to me so I had to explain it to him. while I was explaining as vaguely as a can while still getting the gist my mom overheard and googled "fan fiction" and she was like "wow there's a website!" I yelled at her to stop looking into it and that they are better off not knowing. most uncomfortable moment of my life
I'm gonna guess that they didn't stop. xD
One time I was explaining to my mom what mutual pining is and why I liked it so much, and she said: “yeah, dear, it’s good when all those love problems are only in a book but in real life that sucks, so be glad you only read about it and it’s not happening in reality”. Or shortly just another life lesson
I like the way they *navigate it*
I see what you "navigated" there
I officially stan your mother. Her choices and advice are very insightful and the fact that you were willing to ask her to do this with you just shows how much trust you two have built together. She's also pretty chill from what I can tell

The way she wheezed when she tried to explain what "bang" meant-💀
That Fake Relationship thing is basically the EVERY DAMN plot of the Turkish drama series. Im not even kidding.
"Whats ABO?"
Oh honey.
So.... has your mom watched She-Ra yet? Friends-Enemies-Lovers with a happy end?

@@simoneangeliquemaloney3990 not _huge_ spoilers, mind you... they say as much in the title sequence, and the subtextual foreshadowing that those two were endgame is some of the best I've seen.

I didn't really like that plotline tbh
'if you break up, you'll never be friends again'

Sometimes it's like that. Some people cant handle it and drift away and some can still stay friends :3
As a fanfic reader, I mostly stay away from the romance and shipping stuff, so it was very enlightening to see this perspective on fanfiction.
mama coleydoesthings is amazing, i love how openminded and how she listens to coley's explanations first, and then makes a decision and explains why she doesn't like that trope. i really like her
