It's believable that people would think someone spouting off about a dinosaur of Lagos Island is crazy because in this continuity the only monsters that have ever popped up are Godzilla and Biollante and at this point no one really knows that Godzilla is a dinosaur. Sure he looks like one but most people would probably think he's just some random aberration. The only part about this movie that never made sense to me came from one line during the first meeting between the Futurians and the Japanese government. "Is that true? Would Godzilla do that to us?" In the Heisei era he's done nothing but terrorize Japan! Why would you have reason to believe he wouldn't!
There are some things to remember in regards to that first paragraph. 1) The first movie, which is still canon to the Heisei timeline, makes it very clear that Godzilla is a prehistoric entity, most likely a dinosaur. Dr. Yamane's says as much when he speaks before the senate, and a trilobite is found in Godzilla's footprints on Ootojima Island. 2) Godzilla being a dinosaur is a central plot point in The Return of Godzilla, aka Godzilla 1985. He has a part of his brain similar to those found in bird brains, which the movie says connects to the theory that dinosaurs and birds are related. 3) It's possible a few older Kaiju movies are canon to the Heisei timeline. I always took the fact that Rodan was identified immediately by name and without any shock to his presence in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II as evidence that the original Rodan is canon...though I admit, this last one is speculation on my part. Yeah, those lines about Godzilla being friendly always confused me. I don't know if it was just a translation problem or not, but they made no sense in the film at all.

Ok I need to get my thoughts in at the point where the Futurians meets up with Miki Saegusa since she’s psychic n can read minds as well as move objects with her mind I would think the bad guys (assuming they don’t have any technology that could block telepathy) would want to avoid her like the plague because they wouldn’t want her reading their thoughts n finding out what they’re really planning
I just watched the movie after years of just liking the toy line and books about the kaiju. Such a let down as many say that King Ghidorah is Godzilla's greatest rival. He blew his center head off in the in the middle act. though, its pretty campy and hilarious so im not 100% negative against the movie
If she didn’t want to help double cross Japan, then why the hell did she let them bring the Dorats to leave on the island, so they would fuse into one horrible monster and replace Godzilla?? And worst of all, why the hell did she personally push them out the window before taking off, leaving them on the island, in order to fuse into one horrible monster and replace Godzilla?? Those aren't bad explanations, though given everything else in the film, I highly doubt any of those were considered. It would be cool if Miki, or a character like her, came back into the series. All we've gotten so far was an appearance in IDW's Godzilla Legends.

So side note for this movie, and I'm sure it's a pointless question as I know the answer: did anyone else notice how when the dinosaur on Lagos Island was being shot by the ships and roared, it sounded an awful lot like Gamera? Lol
would transporting the remains of king ghidorah back to the future (who was born in the future) improve the plot of the movie? one thing that always bothered me is that if there is a stable time loop, then unless shindo was lying, wouldn't he have also known that godzilla was still present? also where was king ghidorah since his birth back in 1954? i get that avoiding the heisei era was trying to avoid space alien invasions, but introducing time travel in a franchise that was absent of it for years opens a can of worms and not necessarily in a good way.
My rewrite, gonna be splitting it into parts due to the word limit, check the next two parts on the next two parts of this review Act 1 The movie opens with a prologue explaining legends that say the dinosaurs were wiped out by two 3 headed Dragons that seemingly came from space. The only reason the Dragons didn't cause more extinctions was because of the interference of creatures called Divine Moths that sealed one of the dragons away and drove the other one back into space. Going millions of years later to 1945 during World War 2 the allied forces use the DNA from a leftover scale from one of the dragons, to create 3 Dragon like creatures called Dorats to hunt down a garrison of Japanese soldiers seen fleeing into a unexplored island in order to save on troops. The Dorats are being trained by a soldier called Jonah Glenchico, however if they don't return in 24 hours then the island will be nuked. This is what ends up happening and the existence of the Dorats is covered up by the government, and because of this Glenchico ends up leaving the army in disgust and anger. However legends go onto to say the radiation from the nuke merged the Dorats together into a more powerful monster and before it go a rampage like it's genetic ancestors it was sealed away into a small statue by a unknown person and this costed the person's life. Now in the current year of 1992 one of the members of the Japanese Garrison, Yasuaki Shindo has now become a successful businessman looking to set up work on Infant Island, going there to work up a deal with Lora and Moll the priestess' of Mothra, to set up a business at the island. Meanwhile two worrying events occur, Godzilla attacks a nuclear powerplant and a new monster called Anguirus is discovered. This news causes Shindo to come forward saying that when he was in the Japanese Garrison in 1945 not only did he see a monster that resembled Anguirus but had great interactions with two monsters that resembled Godzilla. He states during his Garrison's stay on the island they came across a dinosaur like creature stuck under a log. They then helped the creature get free and soon afterwards a larger version of the creature they just helped appeared from the jungle appeared to look thankful. Then a day later when they were about to leave the island, 3 Dragon like creatures appeared and started chasing the garrison down, killing many soldiers with their lightning beams. This was when the Dinosaur came back and saved the soldiers from the dragons, giving them time to leave the island. After the story breaks experts begin to believe the creatures Shindo spoke about are Godzilla and Anguirus, with the nuke that struck the island mutating them. Further experts bring in theories that Godzilla and Anguirus could be natural enemies and a fight between them could be disastrous for the world, should said fight breaks into any human populated area. This is where a British businessman called Alan Wilson brings himself into the situation. Wilson and his assistant/translator Emmy Kano explain to the Japanese government they won't need any military might to deal with the two monsters, they instead suggest luring the monsters to Antarctica, and when they get there, Wilson's robot Jet Jaguar will play recordings of their respective roars to get them to go to each other. Wilson further explains that even if one of them wins, the victor will be get lost in the Artic and eventually freeze. The Japanese government agree to the plan and the only thing Wilson asks for is the assistance of physic Miki Saegusa so she can telepathically speak to both monsters. Miki is reluctant at first, but is persuaded by Emmy and finds Alan extremely charming and so agrees. Miki communicates with both Godzilla and Anguirus, telling them to go Antarctica, when they are both there Jet Jaguar plays recordings of their roars so they can find each other. After this plan succeeds and Jet Jaguar returns to the helicopter, Wilson changes for the worse.
I have a theory about this movie since in movie history remembers there were 2 Godzillas 1 during 1954 that dies from the Oxygen Destroyer n 1 during 1980/1990s I am convinced that the dinosaur they teleported to the present was the second Godzilla leaving the first 1 on Lagos to b mutated by the nuclear blast

This movie has always been best understood, to me, thru a kind of Lynchian lense. Although I doubt it was the creator's intent. Also, I think you have to understand that Japan is the villain, and the group from the future are playing the heroes. In the future Japan has bought up Africa and other places. This can't be a positive thing, although I'm sure the filmmakers meant it to be. This group comes from a world of equals, where Japan has gathered great power over other countries .. and whole continents. The most confusing part is Emmy. What's her true intentions here? She's a lovely character, but like the other's from the future, she is a little off. I think of the story from her point of view. Maybe even her dream. It is not a straight story, very skewed. I love it.

I don't hate Time Travel stories on principle. It's the Time Travel stories that don't even try to make sense, or otherwise fail to get me invested to a point where I can overlook the logic problems, that get me.

That back in time re-enactment joke was hilarious. I haven't watched it, but it sure kills the realism out of the story. And it gets better? cool!

Not the best, but it's still one of my favorites. Mr. Shindou's interaction with Godzilla is really emotional and I don't think many people get that.
