- Before the execution of Taberon Honie that was set for August 8, Honie will have the opportunity to make a clemency application to tell his story and explain why he shouldn’t be executed.
Honie was set to be executed for the murder and sexual assault of his girlfriend's mother, Claudia Benn.
"There are a lot of serious questions that need to be answered before this execution moves forward," said Robin Maher, the executive director of Death Penalty Information Center.
Maher highlighted the serious concerns about the untested drug combination intended for the lethal injection.
She said this will determine what route the state will take, but for now, many unanswered questions remain.

The state of Utah is showing Taberon Honie the same mercy he showed his victim.
I hope God will forgive you all for all your sin. All of you! His from the same tribe as I am. And we believe that when we die, we go back home and our ancesters that have gone before us will be waiting for us and welcoming us back home. And if we are truly sorry for our sins, God will forgive. Like the Mormons teach us, we natives are the chosen ones.
