- A visit of the the French island of Martinique 280 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The tropical island is a paradise of many different climates and many sights. Beautiful palm tree lined beaches, lush vegetation in the jungle, spectacular sunsets on the West side and Montagne Pelée, a dormant volcano are just some of the rich attractions of this South Caribbean gem.
My trip takes you to many of the coastal towns as well as a drive in the center of the island through rain drenched wild jungle roads to the banana plantations in the North. Iguanas and lizards are part of the trip a well as beautiful flowers that bloom all year long. Martinique also boasts quite a number of beautiful churches, many dating to the 17th century. One particularity of these churches is that the woodwork beneath the roofs are in the shape of upside down ship hulls, as they were built by naval carpenters.
Martinique is a French overseas territory of 1,128 square kilometers (436 sq miles) with a population of 385,551 inhabitants.

Did you have to learn French to get by? I know the Creole is similar on both islands but the official languages are different. I am from Quebec and was honeymooning in St Lucia and could actually understand the Creole there but have more difficulty with Kreyol ayisyen.

Thanks! True, the video is on the long side. Yet there was much more I did not have time to see! I'll have to do another video about Martinique. Tourism is very well developed on the entire island. It is also very easy to get around as the roads are generally good, just keep off roads during commute hours when traffic slows to a crawl!

Martinik est un bel endroit dans le caribe. Je suis allé en Martinique une fois et je suis tombé amoureux avec elle. Je suis Ayisien mais Je vis dans Brooklyn New York. Mon francais pas trop bien mais Je fait effort. Je parle anglais et creole Ayisien. Je veux apprendre l'espagnol et le français complètement.

Hello my paternal grandparents are originally from Martinique and I'm working on my ancestry search, I was able to establish that they were from Le Precheur and left the island due to the eruption of Mt.Pelee and settled in Panama with other relatives; I was also able to find that some relatives perished due to the eruption....I had a trip planned to the island but it is now on hold due to the COVD19...I'm trying to find any persons related to Augustin VREUX (my grandfather) and Marie Lucie BALTET (my grandmother)….any information regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated...Merci
